Freddie Jackson and Luther Vandross are Baritones voice types who have Tenor vocal range and often stay singing in their falsetto, head, and mixed voices to achieve that tenor sound. But their chest register and talking voice is much deeper than a Tenor. Real Basses are rare… because even Barry White and Isaac Hayes are more Bass-Baritones. Because while they’ll talk in a Bass tone when they sing their in the Baritone range and register. Real Bass Singers like Melvin Franklin from Temptations and Paul Roberson (who was a Classically Trained Bass who could get into higher baritone ranges but keeps the Bass thickness and tone) singing voices staying in a lower booming rumble and low end creek when their projecting their voices. That’s a big difference in Basses and Baritones.
