  • Halkidiki is a peninsular area with three arms, located in the north of Greece, at a distance of 90 km from Thessaloniki, the second largest commercial center of Greece.
The peninsula has an area of 3000 km2, its three arms - Kassandra, Sithonia (or Loggos) and Mount Athos (Agio Oros - Holy Mountain) - extending into the Aegean Sea. It is a place of extraordinary beauty, unique in Greece.
    CLIMATE
The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with sunny and dry summers and mild and rainy winters, with temperatures reaching 22°C - 28°C in the summer.
    RELIEF
It increases in altitude from west to east; thus, the lowest altitudes, the fertile plains, are found on the first branch - Kassandra. Sithonia - the second branch, has a height of about 800 m, while the Athos massif exceeds 2000 m. The three branches that enter the Aegean Sea make Halkidiki the region with the largest stretch of coast on mainland Greece. It is estimated that the coastline of the peninsula is over 500 km long and includes all forms of relief: long sandy beaches, rocks and pines, picturesque bays, impressive rocky massifs. Halkidiki has no rivers, which is why the sea surrounding the peninsula is one of the cleanest in Greece.
    HOW DO WE GET?
Those who want to travel by car will enjoy the good roads and an easy drive to Thessaloniki, the largest city on the peninsula.
If you set off around 4 in the morning, you can be sure that at 2:00 pm you will be able to decipher the outline of the city of Thessaloniki.
From Thessaloniki to any of the arms of the Halkidiki peninsula, you only have to travel about 100 km.
Those who prefer to enjoy the comfort of a plane trip will land directly at Makedonia International Airport in Thessaloniki. From here, you will have at your disposal buses and coaches that ensure the transfer between the airport and the resorts of Halkidiki.
The fares of a bus trip differ depending on the destination, starting from €4.50 and reaching €20.
However, our recommendation is to rent a car to enjoy the freedom to roam the peninsula at your own pace, without depending on the timetable of public transport or having to pay colossal amounts for taxi trips.
The peninsula totals a total of 520 km, an area on which are stretched fabulous beaches and splendid landscapes that deserve frequent stops and thousands of photos.
The rates for renting a car start from €20 and vary depending on the type of car you prefer and the rental period.
Transport by bus is indeed more accessible in terms of price, but the journey will not be as comfortable as the one by plane or by personal car.
