This was the last of Andrew Parks’ three episodes on _Barnaby Jones._ He was an incredibly sexy guy. If you doubt that, check him out in the episode “Dead Heat” - one of my favorites just because of him in that role in the cast. Plus, he gets to play opposite Pat Hingle, one of the biggest yeoman character and dramatic actors of his generation. If you don’t know anything about Parks, check-out who his parents were. His father, actor Larry Parks, was blacklisted for his liberal politics and associations and could not get screen work for years. His mother Betty Garrett should be familiar to anyone who grew up watching 70s or 80s TV, particularly _All in the Family_ and _Laverne & Shirley._
The chemistry between the two leads in this apparent attempt at a backdoor spinoff episode was very good, and it is entertaining. However, though it far better than the groan-inducing failed attempt at a spinoff with Kenneth Mars that was used for the very last _Barnaby Jones_ episode, it just doesn’t mix very well with with the tone and feel of _Barnaby Jones._ It’s interesting that both times the producers were attempting to include or use comedy or humor to create new spinoff series. Maybe CBS was trying to capture the unique success of _The Rockford Files._ Maybe they thought that audiences were looking for programs like _Rockford_ that used irony, winking humor and played with the well worn tropes of detective series. Whatever the series was expected to be, it never materialized - not even a stand-alone pilot. However, both actors went on to have very successful careers in the entertainment industry. Sam Weisman became an award-winning director (His son Daniel has been successful in his own right.) and Felton Perry was active on screen until 2007, including the recurring role of Johnson in the _Robocop_ franchise.
45:30 Gosh US 2 door coupes were as big as a solid European van (watch the VW van in the background...) .... No wonder we Europeans used to call them "sardine cans"....
