Thank you so much I was always too scared to dip the money into it, but decided to try and thank you for making the setup so easy, currently just finished setting up my first co2 system!!
I can't wait to see more from you man. I have watched all your stuff at least twice through. I am currently setting up a 46 gallon bow front using a lot of your tips
Thanks for the great video Dave! I was always afraid of trying CO2, but with the help of your step by step video I finally went ahead and set it up on my 46gallon planted tank. Thanks so much for including the details of which things to turn on and when....the instructions that come with the regulator were not that detailed...I referred to your video! Looking forward to part 2!
This gave me the final confidence boost I needed, so I ordered a CO2Art system today. Thanks!
The best video I've seen on CO2 set up. Very informative and educational.
Thank you. I ordered a co2art setup and can't wait for it!
Thanks for sharing this video Dave. Very informative and I can't wait for part 2.
Thanks yo! I just got a really in depth informative read from my buddy that may apply to this video.
Thank you for all your videos! I honestly think you have the best channel on UA-cam for the freshwater aquarium hobby. I couldn't have done this hobby without all your guidance! Looking forward to your part 2 video.
I tried the DIY and it worked and went well, but didn't seem to cause plants to take off like I wanted. Pressurized CO2 has made a HUGE difference and now I'm trying to learn to fine tune and get my tank balanced. Thanks again!
Thanks for the compliments man. Yeah my buddy has DIY right now and it is such a joke. Says it will last 60 days but not even close. BucePlant wants and an honest review and that co2 bottle of theirs has got to go! haha
great video man. really looking forward to the part two science stuff!
Thanks man. yeah I just got a really in depth read from a buddy of mine, so I need to look into it first.
It's more than 3 years later now. Did that regulator you used in your video ever make it to the States? if so, where is it available. Thanks...
Really great video! I like all the detais you mentioned!
Thanks man ive been looking for something like this.
Thank you So much!!! Full of Information. Godbless buddy.
I know this is old but seriously THEE BEST co2 setup video. I'm seeing mine up tomorrow or in the morning and I've been scouring co2 setup vids for 3 weeks getting ready. Thanks allot! 👊
I'm doing paintball for now so i have the blue adapter but i think i can follow this well.
Thank you for all the videos and content you put out. It is extremely helpful. The bubble counter you are using what brand is it?
Thanks for making a video that's easy for beginners! when is part 2 coming out?
Watched a lot of CO2 videos but this is the best. Complete and accurate. Thanks for sharing.
Great Vid !
Thanks from France !
Great video and very cool system,Your tanks are excellent also,
but I've never needed one to have my plants grow right out the top of the tank.
Thanks! Yeah the goal isn't necessarily to get them to the top of the tank, but just to produce more lush dense growth as well as brighter colors. Co2 plays a big role in many different aspects of plant growth and photosynthesis.
Great vid mate. Very instructive and easy.
I have co2 in a 30 liter shrimp tank. It's a soda stream setup. In the future I will get me a bigger system so I can connect to more tanks.
Thanks man. Yeah it definitely is worth it. My buddy has DIY right now and it is a total joke. haha.
Thanks for sharing!
Is there a part 2 of this video? great info! I'm particularly interested in learning about how to properly feed multiple tanks off one co2 tank
Check out my CO2 playlist. For that you will need a regulator with multiple needle valves. A guy on Facebook makes them. High-tech planted tanks group or Aquascaping the world group.
Thanks for the great video Dave! I was always afraid of trying CO2, but with the help of your step by step video I finally went ahead and set it up on my Biocube 29 gallon planted tank. - and yes, you definitely made sure the regulator was on tight! LOL :-D
for some reason to this day UA-cam algorithm never notifies me via email or UA-cam when someone comments. It makes no sense, and I do have my notifications on!
You are a genius! ... I am a total beginner. Just love the idea of having my 155 gal Discus tank being covered with real plants, but I found this real difficult without CO2 ... not sure if I want to spend extra $ on GLA , and your incredible ( full of missing intel ) video just open my eyes
Great video! So I'm getting into high tech planted tanks and I'm planning to get the aqua tech premium regulator. I just have 3 questions, what type of co2 diffuser should I get for a 55 gallon? How much would it usually cost to get a 1 gallon co2 tank? How long would the 1 gallon tank last with 2-3 bps with the regulator on for 8 hours?
I am interested in getting that tubing you recommended in your video. Could tell me what size in inner/outer diameter you got . There are several options on that website to pick from. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
I'm watching this video for fun now , I've watched it a lot when setting up my system at first. Btw how long should a 5 pound last? on a 60p its lasts me about 6-7 months.
Hi Dave, I watched your cleanup crew video and loved it! you're very informative and knowledgeable. If i can suggest one thing, try to make your videos a bit shorter and concise to keep the viewers attention. Goodluck with your channel!
Always better to be happy with the video
BTW Pearling plants are something that is unforgettable once you've seen it.
Thanks dude. But now I forgot international fittings, like in Australia, so I have to remake the video because of my OCD.
haha
Hello! Love your page! Could you please let me know the brand name of everything you have set up with your CO2 setup besides the tank. For example the brand name of the regulator and other stuff like that? Thanks!
I just love that scape!
Thanks! It is supposed to be a desert after a flash flood, Spring desert, or desert dry creek. now with the co2 it is looking really nice! Can't wait to show an update.
Thank you
Thanks!
Also in regards to your comment. If I am dosing liquid ferts could I just stick with the normal sand I already have or would switching to Eco-Complete serve any kind of benefit to the plants?
Hi Dave, what's the size of the USplastics co2 tubing you have? They have different sizes.
also, will a 5lb tank provide 30-45 psi? if so, do I need a regulator to get that. my current regulator has only one meter that reads 10psi when full.
Thanks for the tips. I'm just getting confused with which regulator to buy. I've heard positive feedback on GLA products however I'd prefer to use some Amazon gift cards. Any ideas or recommendations?
How’s the CO2 Regulator performing up to this point? Any issue? Doe the locking needle adjustment accurate and doesn’t lose its setting?
Same Tank...... I got a new light and filter and fertilizer. I am now wondering what the cheapest substrate for plants will be, on Buce-Plant the Controsoil is out of stock in regular so they only have the small grain expensive kind. What substrate should I get now, maximum budget for substrate is $40, enough to cover a 20 gallon tank (24 inch long) in however much substrate needed. What substrate should i purchase, and how many pounds/bags.
Can you tell me what tubing you used off the usplastics website?
Thanks for this tutorial. It really helps :)
I would like to ask if there is a set working pressure average range for small tanks? I have a 29 gallon tank with an aquaclear 70 HOB filter. So this rules out any inline diffusers or reactors. Should i adjust to under 20 psi or stick within 30-40 psi range? The green leaf aquariums atomic in tank co2 diffuser needs a psi of over 30 from what i read. Any issues going for smaller working pressure? I will probably get those cheap ceramic co2 diffusers from ebay. Keep some as spare from when they get clogged up.
whats the size of your inline co2 diffuser? because i have a canister filter also ..
plant bro i wanted to tel you that inline diffuser suck really bad ive try it for 6 months on 2 tank's it kills everything all ho2 gone and its growing cyanobacteria
great vid ... i have a 180 gallon planted aquaium and im thinking about putting co2 in it . do u think ill need mor than one co2 diffuser
BR5491Z1Z you may need it for more even distribution. Check out my latest video. It goes over optimizing your CO2, and explains this very thing.
I know this video is dated... but can you give an updated list of parts that are used in this video so that people like me can put the same kit together. Parts, vendors, and settings would be awesome!!! Thanks for such a great upload!!!!
CharmCity MoJOE the equipment isn't dated. You can find the regulator and bubble counter at nilocg.com and the other equipment at green leaf aquariums. Or even Amazon, such as the diffuser. Look in the video description for more information and the video. Thanks for watching
have you ever had a dire incident when setting up presurized co2? such as something implode/exploding?
My CO2 escapes through the main handle when I connect the guage. Whats could be the issue? I'm really stuck up!. Pls help.
Is the outflow psi adjustable on that regulator and if so what brand and model number is it. I’ve been looking for a regulator with an adjustable outflow but don’t seem to be able to locate one at a reasonable price. Sorry I sent my question in before the video was over, would still like to have the brand/model info!
Sorry, I asked my question before the video was over, so it’s adjustable . What is brand and model number please?
You said that this particular regulator is not out yet but who makes it and where will it be available for purchase also since this is two Stage you shouldn't have to worry about end of tank dump correct I want to get into pressurized CO2 all my plants look great but they don't grow like they should, and I'm going through flourish Excel to the point where I can purchase pressurized CO2 with the amount of money I spent in the last few months thanks for any help I really appreciate it
nilocg.com/dual-stage-regulator-na-ss-pro-dual-stage-stainless-steel-regulator/
Hi Dave, how is this CO2 regulator working so far? any issues? does the company provide any warranty? I have a 5 gallon fluval spec V, do you think this would work for my tank or will it be too much? Thanks bro!
Thanks for the video ! May i know what kind of bubble counter you are using and where did you get it? is it compatible with Aquatek regulator?
is it screw directly to the regulator/solenoid ? how about the leakage? are you using the Tygon b44-3 beverage tubing?
what do you think of in line heater with the co2 diffuser? which order should they be attached to canister filter.
Also, what is more important if i can only afford one, bubble counter or drop checker?
thanks
The inline heater will not impact the co2 or visa versa. No issue there. for a beginner I would say using a drop checker may be safer for you, or both if you can afford it. Some diffusers come with a bubble counter and drop checker built in so you can get all three. I think Fluval makes a diffuser like this.
Thanks so much for the advice, also do you have any videos on the substrate options to start with for planted tanks?
I found this info online..."The solubility of gases decreases with increasing temperature, so the air space when cold water was used will be less compared to warm water. The cold water will take up more CO2 and less will be escaping to the air."
So that is why I don't know if its better with heater before or after inline diffuser.
Ash Kasto It may make a slight difference, but with your circulation the temperature would be relatively the same throughout the system, right? You could test it and run your own experiment. 25 C and 8 mg/L of DO is about 100% saturation O2. So, basically you will also already have a higher exchange rate and higher O2 and will be supplying more CO2 as well. This is an optimum situation it seems. Also creates more stable exchange rate at water surface. I have found a few studies that show 25 C as a proportional average for common aquatic plants. My Clado algae disappeared pretty rapidly after implementing this method of higher O2 and CO2. Reduce organics through maintenance, and bump that O2 and CO2 both super high at 25 C.
Hello, can you please provide information or a link to your bubble counter and the connector used to connect it to the regulator. Thank you.
Hey Dave , I have been trying to figure something out with my setup that hasn't been set up yet due to a few concerns that I have been searching for the answer before I have any regrets from damaging my regulator. So I have been trying to get my UNS mini hooked up to a 24oz. paintball cylinder. The setup video from UNS has a UNS Paintball cylinder that has the dial to open and close. The Tippmann cylinder that I have does not, so I have been trying to hook up the two without damaging the regulator from the PRESSURE. I hope I explained the potential to my fears of doing something that has my brand new reg ruined . The funny thing is that I had no fears when I attempted the first time but since I forgot to put the o-ring in the adapter I got my first " burst " of the power of pressurized CO2 😲 ....that has been corrected and I bought a whole 10 to replace if and when I have an empty cylinder , but I have been reading of so many people who have a full tank and life is great and it's not so the next morning or whenever their CO2 escaped . So those are what's holding my hair as I'm puking in the toilet of the paintball blues , not to mention that prior to the everything I had been using the reg with a 95 gram Fluval canister for a few months and it's amazing the results etc. But now 2 weeks with not a drop.😿
Hi, can you purchase the same pressure valve UNS uses on their paintball cylinder and hook it up to the paintball cylinder you are using? Or can you purchase a pressure valve for paintball cylinders in general? I am not familiar with using paintball cylinders. Another option is to open the mini regulator valve and needle valve all the way as you connect the regulator to the cylinder. And make sure to tighten the regulator really well to the cylinder. Then, adjust the working pressure (30-40 psi) valve in the cylinder, and then adjust the needle valve as needed. I am sure this will be loud and you will lose some CO2 as you are tightening the regulator to the cylinder.
I would first try and find a pressure valve adapter for the paintball cylinder. Similar to the one UNS is using. They are obviously using it for a reason. You may find it on Alibaba, Amazon, or Ebay. I hope this helps. I am not familiar with paintball cylinders and mini regulators, so I am not sure if the mini regulator can withstand direct pressure from the cylinder or not.
Thanks for the video instruction. How long does your five pounder typically last before you need to refill?
ADU Aquascaping appreciate your fast reply and for all your help (watched almost all of your videos. I’ll be setting up my first planted tank very soon). Have you ever feed two or more tanks from same co2 bottle?
ADU Aquascaping appreciate your fast reply and for all your help (watched almost all of your videos. I’ll be setting up my first planted tank very soon). Have you ever feed two or more tanks from same co2 bottle?
Awesome video! Is it safe to turn the cylinder valve of the co2 tank all the way open? I see you only did 1 full turn.
Scusa una domanda, ma se spengo la CO2 non ho sbalzi di pH?
Grazie ✌
Can you add a link to where you got the bubble counter? I looked and didn't find it in the description. I don't think you said it in the video either. Thanks
spk210 it comes with the NilocG regulator. You can get bubble counters from greenleafaquarium.com as well
15:36. Could please anybody explain me what this co2 defuser does? Is it nessesary? Why is it connected to the filter? Can't the co2 go straight to the aquarium?
If you have a HOB filter what is the setup?
Do I have to use high light with Co2? I just purchased a new 15w LED light and want to use Co2 also. Will the light I have be ok?
Cameron Basford no you don't. It will be easier to manage with the light you have now, and will increase growth! Have fun
Can I use an inline CO2 diffuser submerged? My 20L uses a Swiss Tropicals corner filter with a submersible pump instead of the air powered lift tube Swiss Tropicals sells. I want to install the inline diffuser submerged behind the corner filter so it's hidden with the rest of my equipment.
Randy Shapiro if your going to use an in-line diffuser make sure you get one with an adjustable outflow Psi. If it’s not adjustable there is a good chance It won’t be able to push the co2 through the diffuser.
ok so i have a 20 gallon tank housing a bristlenose pleco. i am wondering if switching my sand to a soil would be good, although i have no where to move fish so i cannot add aquasoil due to ammonia spike (unless thats a myth). so i was thinking eco complete and planting amazon swords and ludwigia then having java fern tropica fern java moss and assorted anubias attached to driftwood. i am planning on using the all in one fertilizer by aquarium co op, or would you recommend something else. also i have a tank quit from aqueon sadly so the lights are 5 tiny patches of LEDS will that be ok since the plants are lowlight? or should i upgrade to a finnex stingray or something else? i dont plan on using co2 or root tabs. i just want to know the best light substrate and fertilizer that isn't too spendy
If you go low-light you will want soil. Go cheap on the light and buy Marfied Controsoil from BucePlant. It won't cause a spike like ADA will. Or use pool filter sand and dose more liquid ferts and up the lighting a bit. StingRay does alright on 10 gallon tanks. I am not sure about 20. I like the Current Satellite Plus for smaller low-tech. had good results using it. Usually light is where people go wrong with plant growth. It won't be as lush as it would be with CO2, but with higher light values and a lower KH this will give the plants the most optimum environment, and of course even better if used in conjunction with soil. So you could do the Eco-Complete to get the look you are going for. Neither inert sand or Eco really add anything. I would look into using Eco, only if it is cheaper. I have a code to BucePlant that will get you 15% off at checkout! Follow my affiliate link and use the code ADU15 at checkout. If it is cheaper this way to get the Marfied than I would. If you use Eco than try dosing the ferts like you mentioned and getting a stronger light. buceplant.com?rfsn=512608.61055d
*This video is better than the first upload as far as advice and accurate information. Enjoy!
ADU Aquascaping is proud to announce their partnership with BucePlant! Check out BucePlant.com.
When ordering, if you type "ADU15" into the code section you will get 15% off of your first PLANT order, so make it count!

No check valve is necessary on the Co2 tubing to the inline diffuser?
It is. With this one it is built into the bubble counter. It is rare, but if the CO2 is off for an extended period of time it could get into your needle valve chamber on your regulator and cause issues.
Good information. Can I email you? Have a quick question about my plants and hardscape.
David Stephen hey I saw your email. I responded. Hit me up with your concern.
Planning to make my 20 gal high into planted tank ...
how long does such a tank last for you?
Hey Dave How long would that 5 Lb tank last on a 90 Gallon tank ballpark Thanks
Rmk22 SR. I have similar questions. I have next size up co2 tanks from kegging beer. I have a planted 55 gallon tank
With no leaking from the seal a 5 lb at 2 bps will last 6-8 months. If you had it at 4 bps for a larger tank I would assume 5-7 months. If it only lasts 3-4 months usually there is a leak. I would recommend using the white nylon seals or a brass perma-seal. Don't get those hard black composite seals. Good thing is most seals are the standard white nylon and most leaks are usually just from not tightening the bolt enough. You should actually tighten it fairly well. And the verge of too tight if that makes sense. No Teflon is needed and don't listen to anyone who says tightening it a lot is bad for brass or steel. Tighten that bolt well! Most instructions say to tighten as much as possible. Use a crescent wrench and not channel locks or vice grips
What size is the tubing?
is there any place i can get it refilled instead of swapping the tanks?
A little late the party but what if youre using a 24/7 light? just start kicking on he CO2 before the lights reach their "daytime cycle" and are high intensity?
Yes. Just an hour or two before the lights reach full intensity will work
Another one!
better advice and more accurate information. I didn't want to have beginner's blowing out their valves. I was rusty and needed to remake the video!
good video, only downsides audio mostly in the left ear, the music repeating/not mixed
Zomb0i hey thanks for the feedback. I didn't think about the audio. I was just using my camera mic. And yeah the mixing could have been better. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching.
ADU Aquascaping I don’t think I would have noticed if I wasn’t wearing headphones tbh! But very helpful video anyway! Should be getting my CO2 soon.
Hey Bud,
I'm setting up my co2 system to a diffuser. Should I put my check valve on my co2 line or my water line?
Thanks!
Nice video .where can I get this regulator
cichlid guru nyc NilocG used to have it, but I don't see it now. CO2Art has a similar model.
just ordered this unit now all i need is a tank and a place that does in shop refill since id like to customize my tank and be able to keep it
beveragefactory.com has really good prices for 5lb cylinders. Usually a local welding shop will exchange it for one of theirs.
i was wondering if you could help me figure something out since im pretty much going with the same co2 set up you have but im planing on putting it into a cabinet and i wanted to know what the over all height of the set up is with the top of the bubble counter to the ground since i only have 21-1/4 inches of height to work with worse comes to worse if it doesnt fit ill use a different style of bubble counter
The Watcher the top of the bubble counter sits at 20.5", so you're probably good.
is aluminum better than stainless steel?
What bubble counter is that please?
I am not sure of the brand, but you can find them at green leaf aquarium website, amazon, or nilocg.com may have them, it's a mass produced item that is branded under different companies, but all the same item
If a pressurized CO2 malfunctions and leaks 6 months of CO2 in 5 minutes into my room would I die or get sick ?
Are you alright Dave?
i hope you are!
Danny's Aquariums yeah I am doing well. Just taking a needed break. Have been breathing and living Aquariums 24/7 for over 10yrs Straight! Have had some setbacks with the UNS scape and my 60P. But good news, all tanks are doing well right now. I am going to do a part 2 to the "Ultimate beginner's guide to aquascaping". And it will be from a beginner's perspective- my bro Travis. We will talk about the successes and failures with the UNS scape and how to solve issues when they arise. Have a good day man
I think they should make a locking or pin for the adjustment knob. If a child was to fool around with the adjustment it could kill the animals.
How long did it last ?
This size, 5 pound canister, can last anywhere between 6-8 months at roughly 2 bubbles per second
Wont the CO2 (that went out due to surface agitation) damage my room's air quality? Won't it be safe for me anymore?
Unless you are dumping a kilo of CO2 into the tank every hour (which is crazy talk) there will not be any problems. CO2 is a gas found in the Earth's atmosphere. Adding (via the aquarium) enough CO2 to a room an a normal building to change the concentrations to a dangerous level would be nigh impossible. If you live at the bottom of a sealed room then maybe you could do it, but you would probably suffer from anoxic (limited O2) conditions before that happened.
No check valve??
This probably sounds terrible, but I rely on my Otos to tell me what’s going on with my water chemistry.
That's a good observational system. Nothing wrong with that. Using fish as an indicator is a great method!
What's a permaseal for?
Just if you want to use that for multiple fills instead of a new nylon seal at each fill. It lasts a long time. A year or more usually.
Hi, I would like to know what exact CO2 hose you are using. Is it the 3/16" ID x 5/16" OD x 1/16" of this www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=114705&catid=571 ?
I am pretty sure that is the correct size considering the nipple on the diffusers are usually 1/4". I will make sure and measure the tubing and will get back to you!!
What is the correct size? This? 56280
1/8" ID x 1/4" OD x 1/16" Wall Bev-A-Line IV Tubing or the size above?
Sooooo where can I get that nifty regulator?
nilocg.com/dual-stage-regulator-na-ss-pro-dual-stage-stainless-steel-regulator/
i dont even have enough money to afford even a paintball co2 system lol
haha, you can always do DIY citric acid! better than yeast IMO. But I feel ya man. I am just lucky and get sponsored.
ive never been able to do that right either! :( i keep trying though
DIY co2 system is very cheap! U need some tubings, 2 bottles and two caps for DIY system, citric acid and baking soda. You can also buy cheap ready to use system on aliexpress or eBay for 13$
just try, that is worth. I installed the output of CO2 to the intake lattice of my internal filter, so it works as dissolving device also. You can use ceramic atomizer etc.
no vids lately hope everything is ok
How much electricity does solenoid consume?
I am betting around 6.5 watts when engaged. Does that sound about right? 110V AC.
yep Ive googled, could be from 1 to 8 watt, differend manufacturers etc. Aquamedic have just 1 watt, which is cool! usually 3-5 watt for Camozzi seems to be OK
Ive just asked that coz whole year expenses for electricity for filter, lights, heater
I respect the re-upload. Good move.
I agree. I had to do it for the benefit of the beginner hobbyists. And ended up adding more relevant information as well. Thanks! Did you upload your video today?
Nope, but I filmed the unboxing! planting all the plants took a lot longer than i had thought. The lights and Co2 had turned off for the day, So I will film the rest of the video tomorrow edit it and get it uploaded early next week. Are you on facebook?
Instablaster.
