Dylan Talks Tone Recieves Commision From Some Of These Links
Honestly, I think Jimi Hendrix just played what was available to him at the time, while, of course, there were certain pieces of gear he gravitated to which led to his distinctive sound, there wasn't a hell of a lot to choose from. If you were to travel back in time and bring him some of the top modeling pedalboards that's out now, or a Fractal, he would would flip his lid on the sounds that he could get. It's all of us in modern times who are obsessing over what he used.
I agree 100% 👍
just look at the players that are still playing from that time now, like clapton
I think if he was alive he would have his own signature guitar and not play someone else's
Jimi has said in several interviews that he has a fear of birds. There is no way he would play that guitar with the ugly bird inlays on it. Not even if his therapist said "but its exposure therapy Jimi, and they improved the Strat!"
I think if Jimi was alive today he would still be playing a strat, like clapton and others that are still playing from that time. but who knows, it's fun to think about.
After very deep deep thought, Jimi probably would have a speaker line that overshadowed his electric guitar stuff.
Hendrix played whatever he could get his hands on.
Danelectro, Acoustic Black Widow, Tele, jazzmaster, strat etc... And his star status only lasted a few years before he was gone. He would try, and modify, anything. Pickups included.
Its hard to say what he'd play today if still alive. For one thing he'd be 80 (but BB King played well into his 80s). Also we'd have 53 years of changes to our current time line directly as a result of his playing. Who knows what endorsement deals he'd have made in the 70s and 80s that would have changed the course of some guitar companies. I mean could you imagine if he signed a deal back then with Hamer or Charvel or Steinberger and changed the fortunes of those companies (maybe they'd have stayed independent and relevant). Heck, maybe he'd have picked up a Synthaxe and turned them into a popular thing. Maybe Ibanez would have brought them into their stable in the 80s ... maybe he'd have got to Paul before John did and the Silver Sky would be called the Purple Haze. Lord only knows how the rise of hip-hop would have effected his creative direction as well.
Here's a depressing thought ... had he lived he may have faded into obscurity. Sometimes the tragic death of an artist at their pinnacle is what cements them in the history books. I mean Noel and Mitch went on to have decent careers, and are highly respected by musicians that know their work, but they never again had the level of fame they had playing with Jimi and certainly aren't household names outside of music circles.
i think he would play ibanez s series., also he would prob just buy a lefty guitar and not turn it upside down like he did
Totally. He'd probably be a dork like Santana these days. Although it would be rad if there were signature Fender and Marshall stuff. It's a toss up. Some of the old guys play goofy stuff. Then you got Keef who plays rad stuff.
Hopefully no headset mics.
I think he would play the shit out of it and set it afire
Haven't watched in a while, but just to say thanks for your insight man.
Not to be a Negative Nelly, but asking if Hendrix would play "insert here" is kinda like that scene in Talladega Nights where everybody discusses how they imagine the Jesus they personally pray to. But I think Jimi would've hopped on the Kiesel/Carvin or Steinberger headless guitar bandwagon that many other virtuosos have had since the Eighties. Actually, he probably try out just about anything under the sun.
Excellent work Dylan…if I could get that in an HSS and drop the volume knob down to the middle spot, I would rock a silver sky all day long 👍
HGreat vido again! @Dylan, was it a conscious choice of yours to play right-handed guitars, eg, as there were no lefty guitars available, or how you were told to play the guitar or..?
Jimi would try one out, an if he liked it, he would buy it and play it., just like any other pro guitarist.
Thanks for sharing. Is it the string brake angle that keeps you from just turning it around
One thing no one seemed to notice is that the angle of the bridge pickup is backwards causing decreased treble response on the high side and more treble on the low side which is the opposite effect of what they were going for by angling the bridge pickup to begin with.
It's not backwards though, it's the same
@@stepans2167 if you look at a normal one you’ll see that the side of the pickup for the bass strings is farther away from the bridge than the side for the treble strings thus allowing more lower frequencies in the bass strings and more treble in the treble strings. Since this guitar has been converted to left handed it will be held and strung upside down making the side of the pickup for the bass strings closer to the bridge adding more treble to them and the side for the treble strings is farther away from the bridge reducing the treble to them, which is the opposite of what they were trying to do when they angled the pickup in the first place.
@@rh2123 oh, I see what you're saying, that's true. I must say though, that it's probably going to sound better. The bridge pickup in a strat is typically very shrill and trebley
I'm left-handed but I play my guitar my drums I right handed.. was so young when I got my drums I think I just set thim up like Peter Chris had his setup and I don't know if I play right-handed because I just didn't know any better when I was younger.
Cool idea!
Re Hendrix? If he was of the same mindset absolutely he'd do all the tech shit in the world.
The stone blue really looks great against the rosewood fretboard and white pickguard
Those shorts are cool enough for 2 people to wear them
How much wood could a woodchuck, chuck?..............dont know, its a silly question
No shielding on the pickguard?
Damn since I'm a rookie guitar player I really don't know why he wouldn't or why he would
I roll with DTT
I think he definitely would have tried one. According to stories he played a lot of different guitars and often straight off the shelf. I think above all he was a creative and not dedicated to any one company or guitar. Those who know him would have much more informed opinions though.
Flying V FTW! lol
I don't know if he would consider it too clean or antiseptic. He might start playing it and then light it on fire?
If bone nuts are out of date, then why aren't you using something else?
Because it’s not my guitar
@@DylanTalksTone Yes, but what would you suggest instead, then? And did you see my Clapton question from the other day?
Dylan, I never guess where you're going with the thumbnails but I do think that he would use new technology. Im not sure the PRS is that though. And I think John Lennon would have as well. Auto tune comes to mind. Smile please. No disrespect intended.
As southpaw 🎉🎉🎉
Hendrix would play on 7-strings headless guitars IMO
Dude so fking true
He would play anything, not picky at all
people from the PNW are pretty easy to please
I think he would play a Kiesel or Ibanez, Jackson, whoever haves the most modern...
I agree. If Ibanez was around in his day, Hendrix would be all over it.
@@shanewalton8888 MAybe he would have his own crazy brand of guitars and effects
Being left handed and playing left handed SUCKS
For the record : Jimi Hendrix was ambidextrous, he could play with the left and right hand, and he could play left handed strung for right handed, and vice versa. He was the only guitarist that wasn't limited to the string placements and left hand/right hand position. It was only that he preferred playing left hand and he stuck to it.
No. Most of his guitars were second hand and used. His guitars were not pricey.
I’m triggered! Lol
"Silver Sky' looks a lot like someone mutilated a perfectly good looking Strat.
WWJD ?
No, if Jimi Hendrix was alive today he would play a left handed guitar because today it's easier to find them. He would go to a store, ask for left handed, pick the best one and make music.
To speculate about what he would play now is silly because none of us know anything about his thought process about music. However, if PRS silver sky was around back in his day then he may very well have played one, if there was one hanging in his local music store. If there wasn't one hanging there then no, he wouldn't have played one. Simple.
I found the fun guy at parties
Yeah… apparently we aren’t allowed to have fun.
@@DylanTalksTone I wasn't trying to spoil anyone's fun. I thought the project was very cool actually. But i have to be honest, i don't believe that he started out as a gear head. I think he took what was readily available and made it sound awsome. Do you disagree?
He wouldn't play a Silver Sky because Paul Reed Smith is on record for hating lefties.
Hendrix played right hand guitars, so that would hardly stop him.
The fact PRS whines about lefties might stop him, but who knows? He is no longer with us to weigh in on the issue. @@PaulCooksStuff
@@shanewalton8888 prs whines about losing money when they do make lefties. Retailers whine about lefties being slow to sell. If there was money in it, commercial reality would have them making more of them.
LOL hate is a strong word. Its not like they don't make left handed guitars. It's just not profitable to make lefties for every model. I'm sure the private stock team has no problem making lefties.
😂
I hope not
Ahhh noooo...
