And Rihanna is called 'Queen of Shandong Province' not only because 'We Found Love' sounds like '潍坊的爱' (Love from Weifang), but also because other songs of her sound similar to cities in Shandong or have meanings associated with Shandong. For example, 'Were Have You Been' sounds like '威海油饼' (Weihai fried pancake). 'Talk That Talk' is translated as '话说聊城' (Talk about Liaocheng). 'Do Ya Thang' is translated as '东营小事' (Things in Dongying). 'You Da One' sounds like '烟台吻' (Yantai Kiss). 潍坊, 威海, 聊城, 东营, and 烟台 are all cities in Shandong Province. Additionally, ‘Princess Of China’ is translated as '还珠格格' ('My Fair Princess', a popular Chinese TV series), where the main character was born in Shandong.
Noooo! Benedict Cumberbatch's 卷福 doesn't mean "curly blessing"! It means "curly haired Holmes"! Because the translation for "Holmes" in Chinese starts with "福"! Benedict Cumberbatch is most well known in China for his portrayal of Sherlock in the BBC series, that's why people call hims 卷福!
I think that's more of a coincidence than anything. "Holmes" is translated into "福尔摩斯" in Chinese, and yes, "福" does mean blessing. However, "something 福" is the usual shorthand we use to refer to different versions of Holmes. For example, "老福" (老=old) means the Holmes from the original books; "米福" (米=rice) means Jonny Lee Miller's Holmes in CBS's "Elementary" --"Miller" is translated into "米勒", so that's another shorthand.
In China ,“the eldest cousin” refers to someone who is chic, cool and really genuine and down-to-earth .People want to be around them like they're family members.
'Unlucky' was Taylor Swift's nickname long before she became infamous for her love life. It has nothing to do with that. “Beautiful” in Chinese is pronounced almost in the same way as “unlucky” And “every time Taylor debuted a strong single aiming at the Billboard Top 100 ranking, she is bumped out so she’s “Unlucky,” but in a loving way.
You guys are absolutely hilarious. I can't believe you guys have analyzer channel! Always the surprise. If you guys do a kinder egg surprise video I guarantee that will have millions of views. For your new toy channel. I babysit and those are the videos my friend's child obsesses over. Oh and of course Legos. Wow I'm really happy for everyone's hard work in creating and developing each channel. From Beyond Science, Double Chen Show, Double Chen News, Strictly Dumpling, and now the Toy channel. Wow! Just blown away. Keep up the great work!
Hey guys, there is more to Rihanna's nickname other than "we found love". There is another song "where have you been", it sounds like 威海油饼 in mandarin. And 威海 is also a city in Shandong province.
The one for The Weekend killed me, I thought that was the funniest. Maybe it's cause I'm Canadian. BTW, you guys made a mistake on the chinese characters for Demi Lovato, you forgot to change it from the one for One direction.
And the reason for Chinese netizens to call Matt Bomer peacock is not because he is perfect but because the character he played as Neal in White Collar is such a playboy that every time he sees a pretty lady he will flirt with her and "show off" his charm, just like every time the male peacock sees the attractive female one it will spread its tail.
That's probably true. I'm Chinese and even though I'm not sure, I think her nickname came that way. In fact, when she first started to get famous, a lot of Chinese fans compare her to Mariah Carey and starting to call her 小牛牛.
That's exactly what it is. "Bus" is a horrible derogatory term for a woman. It basically means that anybody can ride her like some public transportation.
There is a big point you don't explain about Taylor's nickname. "霉" doesn't mean "unlucky" here. Chinese call her "霉" because it sounds like “美” (beauty). 霉=mei=美. Originally people call her "小美女" , which means "little beauty", since she always looks like a little princess. I think the reason why people change "美" into "霉" later on is just a special way to show their strong like to her. In China people like giving weird nicknames to the ones they love.
We called TS '小美女'(little beauty) before the album Speak Now released, but then called her '霉女'(miss unlucky) because lots of fans thought the lead single of this album 'Mine' could got No.1 at the Billboard HOT100, but unfortunately it met with an unauthorized internet leak, so her company had no choice but to release it before the due date, and finally peak No.3. Many of her singles sell well, but always got very close to No.1 at the Billboard HOT100 and never reach it untill We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together released. And '美女' & '霉女' have same pronunciation, so this nickname spreads.
No, it's actually a ridicule from the anti-fans: "not so much as little 'beauty', more like little 'mold' girl", and fans couldn't see the scorn here and thought it's an endearment. It's actually funny
"公车“ means public vehicle. it does not means that Taylor Swift dated a bus load of guys... it means like a public transport, ”人人上过“ - Everyone's been "IN" her
Eminem, the "grandfather thumb" is a gangster reference. The triads are like the mafia, gangster families. So "Grandfather" is the same as "Godfather". It is like if the godfather/grandfather has a top thug. So as the English saying "has him under your thumb" means you have controll over them and can squish them when ever you want. The godfather/grandfather would have his top henchman have all the underlings under his thumb.
I think the eldest nickname for Lady GaGa is 'Thunder Empress GaGa' which is 雷帝 in Chinese Mandarin. Two reasons - firstly Lady has the same pronunciation as 雷帝 (Lei Di); secondly thunder in Chinese slang means shocking and wired, while Di in Chinese means King (empress for female). Therefore it is like king of thunder.... The reason is obvious, she's been famous for her odd (at least for many ppl) and shocking costumes/appearances/outfits/fashion style from long time ago.
it's not accurate though. She only has 8 ex boyfriends in 12 years. While Ariana has 7 exes in 5 years. But no one calls her anything. I find it really disgusting that people just pick on Taylor for no reason. Not saying Ariana deserves it too. But why only choose Taylor???
Lady Gaga has more than one nickname.1."夫人"means "Lady" 2."夏周柳" sounds like "下周六"in Chinese, that means "next Saturday" because Gaga once said "DWUW mv will release on next Saturday" but it didn't 3."鹅美凈" sounds like "amazing" because Gaga once said "Life is amazing".And the "鹅" means goose because in her song Applause 's mv ,Gaga looks like a goose in one modeling
The Rihanna's nick name also comes from a line in the song "The Moster". The line is: 'the monster that's under my bed', And it sounds like 盲僧在山东卖鳖(A blind monk selling soft-shelled turtle in Shandong province).
I could listen to Yi speak Chinese all day. I think she has a pretty voice XD. It would be really cool to listen to Yi talk about heavy metal in Chinese... Soooo cool.
The explanation for the nickname of Jennifer Lawrence is wrong. They call her 大表姐 (elderly cousin)because a netizen in a famous forum(百度贴吧)said that Jennifer is her elderly cousin and Jennifer told her that she would win the Oscar and she did. After that everyone in that forum use elderly cousin to refer to Jennifer...
The Taylor Swift bus thing -- Isn't their explanation of the nickname too innocent? If you call a woman a "gong gong qi che" it means that she's easy. It's one of the first insults I learned in Chinese.

Who else died laughing at The Weeknd's and Lady Gaga's nickname. So funny. I am happy I was able to laugh with Double (triple) Chen despite the lack of knowledge of Chinese.
Also Where Have You Been's pronunciation is so similor to '威海油饼' (Weihai fried cake, a food of Weihai which is a city in Shandong province), then fans found out that most of the song names in album 'Talk That Talk' have similor pronunciation to Shandong 's places and things, so fans make a joke that OMG! Riri love Shandong so much! She sinigs Shandong so many times just in 1 album! She knows so many places and foods of Shandong! She's definitely the prince of Shandong!

Tom Hardy as 'always wet' because of his character in Inception Eames to the first place. Sounds like 一摸湿: when you touch (him) you get wet. And the extensional meaning is he has girls wet... so...
I find it funny how well the guy on the right speaks English with so little accent but he can speak Chinese just as well. I have a Chinese friend who lives in Singapore and he mainly speaks English but he has the stereotypical accent and he's constantly making fun of himself. lol
Only a few people in China call Taylor bus Mei.They are Taylor's haters. Most Chinese fans love Taylor and she is very popular in China. And not only Taylor has such hater's name, lots of other celebrities also have name like that. Her other Chinese nickname MeiMei is just like a name of little girl, nothing offensive. Ariana is called little cow, because her voice sounds like Mariah Carey whose nickname is cow sister. But now most Chinese fans call her A Sister instead of little cow.
Double Chen didn't really get some of those nick names OR They just get those information from something written by someone who is not so good at Chinese.

hmm Taylor is nicknamed Mei Mei because of her unlucky experience with the music awards in her early career. She got nominated for tones of awards for quite a few years without winning any. Just a little extra information: 福 in the last one stands for 福尔摩斯(Sherlock Holmes).
Why is the Chinese name for Sherlock Holmes that?
+TheFeyRa not quite sure myself, we just grew up knowing this is the name for Holmes.
also "Benedict" means "blessing" in Latin too.
ITS ALL CONNECTED.

Thats a translation based on pronunciation but because how different Chinese and English are so its kinda fcked up a way.

“Always wet” in fact is a common joke in Chinese used to call a teacher. Because “Always Wet” pronounce the same as “Teacher” in Chinese. People usually use it to call porn actor/actress, and sex comic book author.
Yi, you might as well do the whole video in Chinese, you were talking chinese for most of it
That's the thing with bilingual people, yknow, we switch languages as we like (if the other person is also speaks the languages)
Yeah, I tend to drift into chinese if all my group speaks it
