This is just 3 low quality Chinese jet engines with an NGAD bodykit wrapped around it. Nothing was demonstrated here besides an ability to make an airplane fly in circles, which we already knew China could do.

The answer is pretty simple. 4 Million STEM graduates in China mean that China is producing far more engineers and scientist than the US. (The US produces about 750 thousand including masters degrees). When you have a lot of smart engineers, you get good products.
Interesting. I have an uncle who was an executive engineer for Boeing for 10+ years. He has ~1,300 direct and indirect reports. He said that no matter where you go, the top 1% of engineering students are AMAZING. The next 2% are excellent almost everywhere. The difference is in the next 70% of engineering graduates. The difference between the US and Europe, and the rest of the world, especially the developing world is night and day. the bottom 25%-30% is bad everywhere. The median engineering graduate from America, Grermany, or France is miles ahead of the median engineer from Indonesia, India, or China. They tried to hire outside of the country for economic reasons, but they couldn't justify it for business reasons. So, with 4,000,000 STEM grads, that would mean they produce 40,000 exceptional graduates, and another 80,000 graduates that are excellent. The rest are not very solid. Meanwhile the US produces ~550,000 graduates. However, of that cohort, there are ~300,000 that are solid, and 5,500 that are exceptional. So, according to his math, the gap isn't really that big. However, Justin Bronk in his latest video said that China has been pouring around 21,000 PHD level scientists into their aviation sector, so that gap should be closing quickly/already be closed. When the US only has ~1,000 PHD level guys, it does mean that this is a problem for US supremacy.

I would imagine that the reason our Air Force decided to delay NGAD is that solid state lasers with a power output approaching 1 megawatt are not near yet available. There is no more frightening a weapon at 35,000 feet, with the extremely low air pressure and humidity, than a 1 megawatt laser. It will reach out and touch you at 150 miles.

NGAD is dead, and the answer to the question is that the US has let the F-35 and the B-21 soak up the pentagon budget for aircraft for the next 15 years. We can't afford the NGAD. meanwhile, China has been pushing ahead with more advanced designs. The F-35 is so expesive to buy and operate that it will only be allowed to fly about 185 hours a year (average per airframe) and will have to remain in service until 2085. It is a fantasy to think that the F-35 will be relevant in 2050, much less for 60 years. The F-35 program has been a financial disaster.

It was supposed that there were 3 designs. However, the third one was spotted this week, but it turned out to be another design by SY, which was not expected. So now people don't know how many designs there are. Possibly all five control surfaces (AMT, SSD, Calmshells, DRUS, DLEF) are all included for testing.
Between the underestimates and the overestimates I feel like I have a good idea about what to think about this aircraft somewhere in the middle. It is a significant development and shows a great growth in capabilities. However, whatever makes something "6 gen" is just not something we can see from these images. It's all speculation. You'd be wrong to write this aircraft off, but it does not mean that weatern air superiority is over. Every aircraft China puts in the sky should be considered a real threat, even if it's a simple J-7.

These are very complex systems that require skilled professionals. I don't have to imagine what the US could do with slave labor because there are historic examples of exactly that.

China’s 6th gen programme is BY DEFINITION ahead of US NGAD, given that China has displayed two aircraft flying over a public area and the US has so far presenetd no evidence whatsoever about their programme's progress. What's more impressive (if not shocking) though, is the fact that China pursues a large number of separate development projects concurrently, showing rapid progress everywhere (aircraft carriers, landing helicopter docks, H-20 stealth bomber, J-35 fighter, 6th gen fighter jets etc etc)...

Since no one has given an analytical solution to the Navier-Stokes equations, it is extremely hasty to conduct computer simulations and skip the test flight stage to finalize the plan for supersonic aircraft. You just have a misunderstanding about the J-20. The PLA will hardly reveal any information about the projects in the development stage. The J-20 did not skip any stage but had already conducted a lot of secret test flights before the announcement. The same is true for the J-36 this time. Unlike the US military, which hypes up the projects under development, such as the F-35 and F-22, which even include many failed projects such as the AGM-183A LRHW/CPS arrw HACM. They clearly announced the performance parameters and hyped them up before the project failed. So you still believe that the US army is different this time? They kept it secret even though they had test fly? ? ?
The video doesn't go into two very relevant parts of the discussion: what each plane can do, and how mature their operations are. We don't know if the new Chinese planes match or even exceed their American planned counterparts, or they may even fall far behind, being closer in stealth, propulsion, avionics and other systems to a fifth generation American fighter. Not having such information makes the comparison moot, since even if China fields the airplanes first it could mean "China beats the US to deployment with more advanced planes than the US has" or "China fields competitors to the B21, F35 and F22 years or decades late". The other point is operational readiness, the US has years of experience operating a fleet of stealth aircraft in actual conflicts, whereas China has none. China also has no experience operating stealth planes from aircraft carriers either. So that's an area that will add a few years at least to whatever the final timelines happen to be for their operational fleets.
Funny how 6th Gen isn’t even a real thing 😂 when the US was deciding between the YF 23 and the YF 22 these companies marketing department came up with the name 5th Gen fighter to make it sound cooler and stand out from the other fairly new aircraft at the time. The answer is pretty simple. 4 Million STEM graduates in China mean that China is producing far more engineers and scientist than the US. (The US produces about 750 thousand including masters degrees). When you have a lot of smart engineers, you get good products.
Interesting. I have an uncle who was an executive engineer for Boeing for 10+ years. He has ~1,300 direct and indirect reports. He said that no matter where you go, the top 1% of engineering students are AMAZING. The next 2% are excellent almost everywhere.
The difference is in the next 70% of engineering graduates. The difference between the US and Europe, and the rest of the world, especially the developing world is night and day. the bottom 25%-30% is bad everywhere. The median engineering graduate from America, Grermany, or France is miles ahead of the median engineer from Indonesia, India, or China. They tried to hire outside of the country for economic reasons, but they couldn't justify it for business reasons.
So, with 4,000,000 STEM grads, that would mean they produce 40,000 exceptional graduates, and another 80,000 graduates that are excellent. The rest are not very solid.
Meanwhile the US produces ~550,000 graduates. However, of that cohort, there are ~300,000 that are solid, and 5,500 that are exceptional.
So, according to his math, the gap isn't really that big.
However, Justin Bronk in his latest video said that China has been pouring around 21,000 PHD level scientists into their aviation sector, so that gap should be closing quickly/already be closed. When the US only has ~1,000 PHD level guys, it does mean that this is a problem for US supremacy.

I would imagine that the reason our Air Force decided to delay NGAD is that solid state lasers with a power output approaching 1 megawatt are not near yet available. There is no more frightening a weapon at 35,000 feet, with the extremely low air pressure and humidity, than a 1 megawatt laser. It will reach out and touch you at 150 miles.

NGAD is dead, and the answer to the question is that the US has let the F-35 and the B-21 soak up the pentagon budget for aircraft for the next 15 years. We can't afford the NGAD. meanwhile, China has been pushing ahead with more advanced designs. The F-35 is so expesive to buy and operate that it will only be allowed to fly about 185 hours a year (average per airframe) and will have to remain in service until 2085. It is a fantasy to think that the F-35 will be relevant in 2050, much less for 60 years. The F-35 program has been a financial disaster.

It was supposed that there were 3 designs. However, the third one was spotted this week, but it turned out to be another design by SY, which was not expected. So now people don't know how many designs there are. Possibly all five control surfaces (AMT, SSD, Calmshells, DRUS, DLEF) are all included for testing.
Between the underestimates and the overestimates I feel like I have a good idea about what to think about this aircraft somewhere in the middle. It is a significant development and shows a great growth in capabilities. However, whatever makes something "6 gen" is just not something we can see from these images. It's all speculation. You'd be wrong to write this aircraft off, but it does not mean that weatern air superiority is over. Every aircraft China puts in the sky should be considered a real threat, even if it's a simple J-7.

China’s 6th gen programme is BY DEFINITION ahead of US NGAD, given that China has displayed two aircraft flying over a public area and the US has so far presenetd no evidence whatsoever about their programme's progress. What's more impressive (if not shocking) though, is the fact that China pursues a large number of separate development projects concurrently, showing rapid progress everywhere (aircraft carriers, landing helicopter docks, H-20 stealth bomber, J-35 fighter, 6th gen fighter jets etc etc)...

Since then, however, we've seen no evidence on its progress, other than an announcement made by Northrop, about the flght-testing of three B-21s. Also, all the military development projects, I mentioned, include multiple elements of research and development!
The f-35 was flyimg 10 years before they revealed it. The 6th gen US jet had its first flight in 2018. The US dont want to show what they have because china will use the same blueprint and copy and try to counter it. The less we reveal, the less time china has to spend money and copy our planes

China has really sped up development of well... Everything, was in Chengdu a couple of years ago. We have nothing, nothing in the west that remotely compares to that place, and it's only 1 of the modernized cities China has. Didn't want to believe it, but we are falling behind.

The video doesn't go into two very relevant parts of the discussion: what each plane can do, and how mature their operations are. We don't know if the new Chinese planes match or even exceed their American planned counterparts, or they may even fall far behind, being closer in stealth, propulsion, avionics and other systems to a fifth generation American fighter. Not having such information makes the comparison moot, since even if China fields the airplanes first it could mean "China beats the US to deployment with more advanced planes than the US has" or "China fields competitors to the B21, F35 and F22 years or decades late". The other point is operational readiness, the US has years of experience operating a fleet of stealth aircraft in actual conflicts, whereas China has none. China also has no experience operating stealth planes from aircraft carriers either. So that's an area that will add a few years at least to whatever the final timelines happen to be for their operational fleets.
