    I like he said that working on weakness is good but that's also mean he will not be feared because he could have use that time to work on his strength. In life, being well rounded is good for an employee but to be more than that you have to have a strength. Most of what he said can be applied in real life which is why I like to listen to him.

    Definitely some wisdom here that transcends tennis. Imagine it - you've accomplished your goals, you've succeeded, so how do you keep going? You have to set goals. As Federer says - just loving the craft isn't enough. Loving the craft can get you far, very far, but you will plateau if you don't set goals and keep trying to improve. So what goals do you set? Well, Federer says there's always something you can improve. Pick something. Every craft has nuance and areas you can broaden your skills... Don't let success prevent you from reaching for the next rung on the ladder. What else are you going to do?

    Can anyone help with my motivation? 10 years ago I sacrificed everything to play tennis. I knew I didn’t have the talent to be a top player but wanted to see how far I could take it if I committed to training. I employed coaches for technique, fitness, psychology etc. A year ago I played in a fun club tournament for players who are not at the level to play in the local league. I lost. I felt I had sacrificed everything and had nothing to show for it- I decided not to give up and keep going. Today I lost the same tournament again- I finished on the bottom court losing the last match. 10 years ago I really believed that I would be close to national level by now with the dedication I have shown- why is this happening? Where do I go now?

    I think the question begs, for me: is there a saturation point for hard work? or is it a strictly linear formula? you put 'x' work in and get 'y' success out? I think it's not that simple. For weight lifting there is a saturation point. If you put 'x' work in you get 'y' muscle growth. But past a certain point you put x work in you 'z' muscle atrophy. You're hurting yourself then. We can see this as a possibility with Roger's knee problems. It's definitely plausible. The connection between progress and hard work fits a parabolic shaped curve.

    • @sportsview247
      @sportsview247 Рік тому

      i would say there's some truth to that, but not necessarily "parabolic" always - depends on the sport i'd say or are you talking about "physical hard work" only? But yes i agree there's an optimal point where doing more work is counter-productive, i.e. "over-practicing" etc, but in terms of the curve, it could be parabolic, or logarithmic even. This concept or principle applies to many aspects of life... studying for exams, etc etc.. you have to make sure you're eating and sleeping properly too. Thanks for the comment.
