Before casting, bring the rod above your head to the back, using the sinker attached to load the rod and at around 90 degrees, you can let go of the line. After it sinks to the bottom, you will notice the line has alot of slack, slowly reel back the slack till you feel tension. Tension is key to ensure that you can feel fish bite. Hope this helps! :))
