  • Implementation of a sliding seat from a rowing boat into a racing sit&switch single canoe.
This enables a catch further forward than normal, and a really long stroke. The paddle is in the power zoom for longer, plus the muscles from both legs used to deliver a powerful leg drive.
The technique takes a lot of getting used to to get the full effect.

Great video, thanks. We tried this a few years ago in a wooden double C2. Didn;t record it.
Hilarious fun getting used to the method. Really powerful - we had to use huge paddles to get full force.
Broke one when accelerating at full whack from a start.
Eventually could do full leg stroke as per a rowing scull.
Made the boat a bit heavy - we found it to be fast but more tiring than traditional paddling - both brain and body.
Also, with two paddlers, any lack of synch caused some considerable chaos!
It is effectively a new sport. With this power level, a very long boat may give best speed.
    Good luck with it.

I'd agree with your analysis. A killer on the back which might improve with more practice but you're right, it takes too much thinking about.

@@darksidecanoes7053 I've always wondered how efficient this would be. In rowing you are pushing your body weight forwards in the direction you want to go. In a canoe you are pushing the boat forwards while pushing your bodyweight the opposite direction you want to go. It just seems like the momentum of your body weight going backwards would slow the boat down alot. Is that a wing paddle as well?
