Yes! I've always heard that Nehemiah has good leadership, but thank you so much for reminding us that the main theme of the book is covenant fulfillment

As I have been preparing for a series on Nehemiah I just came across this video. It is superb as it has depth without losing the listener with a hodge podge of details. The clarity of presentation is outstanding.

I have a question! Firstly, this is amazing! I have learned so much (notebook is filling up!. I wonder, if Nehemiah is the last kind of storytelling book before the NT w/ Jesus...when Jesus was in ministry and the Pharisees and Sadducees were constantly on Him for blaspheming against God (saying a man's sins have been forgiven) and healing on the Sabbath, etc....are the Pharisees and Sadducees people that returned to the promise land, who were trained just as the Levites and Priests were? Why were they so religious, where did they come from and who taught them to be that way? I'm all over the place, haha! Hope I can gain some clarity!

What an excellent question! The short answer is that the Pharisees (literally "separate ones") were religiously conservative people who took what they learned from Ezra and Nehemiah to an extreme. They were desperate not to make the same mistakes the generations before them did, so they took a very stringent approach to the Law.
The Sadducees were a more liberal group with more political influence than the Pharisees (think of the power-center of the Sadducees in Jerusalem and the Temple, while Pharisees were more in the villages and amongst the common people). The Sadducees questioned much about God's Word including the resurrection, angels, etc.
If you'd like to learn more about these groups, this article is an excellent short overview: www.bhacademicblog.com/origins-of-the-pharisees-and-sadducees/
If you're still interested and want to take some time to study these groups, this 40-minute audio lecture will give you a good explanation of the history of both groups: resources.thegospelcoalition.org/library/saduccees-and-pharisees
      Hope that's helpful!

@@thegospelcoalition you said, "the pharisees were religious conservatives who (...) took a very stringent approach to the law."
That's what evangelicals commonly hear from pulpits. However, it is the opposite of what JESUS says in Mark 7:1-10 "In vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men: for laying aside the commandments of God, ye hold the tradition of men..."
Matt 23:23 "Woe unto you pharisees: for ye pay tithes of mint, and anise, and cummin. But you pharisees have omitted the weightier matters of the law: judgment, and mercy, and faith (Grk pistis)."
To "lay aside, reject, and omit (or slacken)" the law of God is not the same as to be stringent about it.
And he said unto them, full well ye reject the commandment of God that ye may keep your own tradition.
