    At 0:53 the "excessive play" in the axle shaft........that is normal. The shafts are held in the housing with C-clips. Normal for every 7.5 and 8.8 regardless if open differential or trac-lock.

    Great job on performing the titled task of changing the Rear Axle Assembly. Although not part of the titled task, showing the removal and re-installation of the axles would have been helpful. . . Perhaps another video idea especially for the left rear axle which is not as intuitive to remove for me.

    thank you. I found this helpful.
    . Failure rate on the L (limited slip) seems to be higher than on the open diff.

    Maybe a stupid question but do you need a 4 wheel alignment after doing this

    In the middle of removing my own, and this video was more informative than the manuals I have been looking at. The separation of the housing and leaf springs would have been nice to see! Thanks for the video , even though!

      I was hoping theyd used a 15 or newer axle. I was looking for a pre solved solution to the 12v/5v system for the E locker on a 15 in swapping into my 07

    Do you know what that canister is above the spare? Does it need any maintenance? I am getting a new rear end for my 2004 Ranger, the new one only has 120,000 miles vs mine at 220. While I have the truck up on stands I want to do everything underneath that I can.

      I'm not sure. I'll have to take a look next time we work on this truck.

    Aren’t you supposed to bolt them each bolt opposite each other?

    Just for safety, clean "buff" the 4, 12.mm yoke bolts and put blue 242 Loctite on it.

      The one coming out is limited slip (both tires pull) hence the L on the tag. The salvage model is an open diff (one tire pulls). I would have kept the L carrier and swap all gears over. I'm doing mine now on same truck with 410s. Due to bent axle and tube in accident.

    Hey, thanks for the video! Just gotta ask....... is the guy's last name Semel, that is doing the filming? I worked with a really nice guy here in Virginia with last name of Semel and y'all could almost pass for twins! Looks, talking, laugh, kind spirit...... everything! He was from N.J. 😁

    Great video. It would make good sense for anyone doing a swap like this to take a close look at the axle surfaces where the seals ride for any sign of scoring or wear as well as checking the condition of the splines and pick the best pair. Also a new set of wheel bearings is pretty inexpensive as long as you have the seals out.

    Juat curious...why the grease on the gasket?

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  3 роки тому

      It helps to hold it in place and as you tighten the differential cover you can see some of the grease ooze out, it helps you to know that all of the bolts have been tightened too.
