Sexy Beer Commercial Filmed At Home - Behind The Scenes

- This video shows the steps I take in creating a sexy beer commercial filmed at home. You don't need a fancy studio, or expensive lighting. Just using what equipment you have around can lead to some epic cinematic shots. Follow along as I show you behind the scenes on creating an epic product commercial. We will look at the equipment used to light and style the shot before heading on into Premiere Pro where we make the actual magic happen.
We all think that you need high end gear, kit that costs thousands. Well you don't. This video, along with the playlist I have created on how to shoot and edit product commercials proves that even on a budget, even when just shooting from kitchen or living room, you too can create an epic product commercial at home.
Stick around for the second half of the video, where I create camera moves inside editing, which for me is inside Premiere Pro, but this can be in Final Cut or almost any editing software that allows for keyframes.
Showing how you can shoot product commercials with a look into behind the scenes will hopefully inspire you to get your camera out and start shooting.
If you are keen to use similar equipment to what I have shown, all my gear is listed below.

Thanks! To one of the top thumbnail gurus, and one of the best supporting actors in Ed's matrix vid. And in Ed's livestreams. Appreciate you!
Thanks Justin! Too kind 🤗
@@JamesKellyStudio you’re welcome. You’ve helped me when you didn’t have to. And for that I’m grateful.
Dude why don't your videos have a billion more views, no joke, these videos are so good! Thanks for making them :D
Man... right on time!! I’ve got a friend that owns a brewery and is releasing a new brew this weekend. Doing the product shots and video next week. Thank you for the inspiration!!
Glad this will help. Hope the shoot goes well. Maybe there were some tips for you in the video.
James Kelly what I needed to see when I needed to see it. Keep up the good work!
This is fabulous! Thank you for sharing!!
Man, i love your work. I Meet your channel today and im impressed about your vídeos. Keep going because your work inspire a lot of peoples. Brazilian congrats 🇧🇷
Welcome aboard! Glad my videos provide some useful tips for others. I'll be sure to keep it going 👍
Simple but looks so great and crisp a very well done James.
Thanx for awesome inspiration! I have to try this out =)
So glad I came across your channel, this is so helpful!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Welcome!! I'll be creating a lot more, hopefully helpful, videos very soon
Did I really like your vid. It inspired me to do some projects. Thanks 🙏🏻
You're awesome dude
Dude, your style keeps getting better. SO GOOD!
Ah wow! Thank You Ed 👍
@@JamesKellyStudio I need a lazy susan
Dodging Karma Design honestly it’s such a great bit of kit to own for cinematic shots
James Kelly Hello matey, hope you’re keeping well. Loving the movement and ramping, lovely! That looks like a really robust turntable - is it a specific brand?
This video is so GOOD! Goodjob man. Thank you for the Inspiration 💯
I got inspired by this video and doing my own version now, thank you!
Brilliant. Glad it helped
Watching for a second time coz it effing awesome!
Haha brilliant 😂
Love this! I'm obsessed with learning how to create incredible videos and this was indeed incredible!! Can't wait to see your others! 🤩
Thank you, hopefully my channel will help. There will be plenty of tutorials to come so watch this space 😊
@@JamesKellyStudio Great news! I'll keep my eyes peeled! 👀
Here's a couple more tips to add: 1) Matte Clearcoat spray will help mitigate light reflecting from the can, then spraying a glycerin and water mixture on the can makes it look like the can is cold without having the water run down the can as much. 2) a wooden chopstick or some other kind of porous wood is the best way to re-foam beer!
Awesome tips 👍 Especially the wooden tool for getting the foam back!
@@JamesKellyStudio yes! Soooo convenient!
Ok this is phenomenal
Thank you!!!
Amazing bro! Great video, thx
Glad you liked it!
Unreal to see pretty much exactly the methods I use here 😂 even down to the same lazy Susan! Use what you’ve got and a bit of your brain and the possibilities are endless. Nice work mate
That is awesome! Everyone needs to get a lazy susan! Were you referring to the Motorhead drink ad you created? Very cool 👍
@@JamesKellyStudio Thanks man! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next
Great work, sir!
Glad you liked it!
This one too! Great video 🔥🔥🔥
This one was cool, just wish I checked the mic level before recording. Don't like the sound of the how it's done bits
Your voice is very Cool
Thank you 😊
Love it
That's totally me with the Ingenuity man.
Sometimes you just gotta use what you have to hand. Gets a similar result, just wouldn't look too good in front of a client if I start tearing apart their garden furniture
#1 dude thankssssss
You're welcome 👍
You’re awesome 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Insane!
Really liked your commercial, just one think i noticed is that when you are showing chilled can, the same will be reflected in glass.
Just came here from the UK UA-camrs group - yes it did look good!! Love these behind the scenes things. I need one of those lazy Susans rather than trying to twist shit around with my hand 😂
Thank you. I love bts videos too, so glad mine was enjoyable enough to watch. It can sometimes be a bit technical and boring if you're not into video editing, probably why people don't stick around for the whole video. But yes, you should all buy a lazy Susan! You could even use it for tapas nights and have all the dishes constantly rotating to all the dinner party! 😂
WOW
I LOVE IT
Amazing!
This is so good! Literally such a good video! Has really inspired me to stop being lazy and start filming more little projects at home. New subscriber here! ❤️
Thank you. Glad it inspired. Not sure if you’ve seen my latest upload but if you liked this one I have a feeling you may like my latest 😉
@@JamesKellyStudio ima check it out right now 🤙
that commercial was sexy AF. Well done!
Best comment ever! 😂
So is there a difference between a “100mm” lens and a “100mm macro” lens??
Love it. Any chance for more info on what you did at 10:24 or so?
Thank you 😊 More info on the Photoshop title part? Well I might plan to make a video in the new year with little tips such as this. But basically it was just a photoshop layer that I masked behind the product, added some key frames from left to right, and as it passed the product I key framed a blur to in focus transition so it felt like it transitioned from the background to the foreground. Hopefully some help?
This is some cool content James! It's funny, I made a margarita commercial back in May with practically the same title you have here lol. I'm putting together a beer commercial and came across this video. Checked out your channel, love your short films dude! Gave you a sub. Looking forward to seeing some more of your content!
Cheers Nate. Just gave your margarita film a watch and that was pretty cool. I'd love to have one right now in fact! Subbed 👍 My beer film (the one you watched) is just continuing to get views. Definitely create one too! I'm going to make some more as they say to double down when something does good. Well this video is constantly my most viewed in any 48 hour period.
@@JamesKellyStudio that’s great man. I love that beer is a part of your brand. That’s something I want to do too. Looking forward to seeing your next one
👏👏👏
Superb
Thank you! Cheers! Means a lot
Great
Lmao the guinea pigs
Please take them off my hands? I'll seal them up in a padded envelope if you can give me your address.
Your videos are absolutely amazing. I live in Nigeria and I have learned so much from you. Is there a way i can connect with you personally?
Ah, man. More of the edit please! Is there a Photoshop tutorial for your text process?
🎉
VERY GOOD, where did you get the lazy susan and are you happy with it?
Thank you. It’s just a cheap electronic one from Amazon. £40 I think. Totally worth it! Think you can get them in black or white. Think I’ll be looking in to get a white one soon snd maybe one that’s even bigger. Think the next stage up is about £80
Hi James, Awesome BTS. You mention you recorded at 4k. what was the fps?
Thank you. For this project it would have been at 24fps, but sometimes I do shoot it at 60 to get even more frames to work with when doing speed ramps and slowing down the footage. Hope that helps
@@JamesKellyStudio Thank you :) Im shooting on an A7iii . I tried 1080P 120fps for slow-mo but image quality suffered. I tried 4k and what a difference. But slow-mo is not flexible. I'am I correct with this statement?
@@erikgouletphoto yeah it looks like that camera goes to 30fps max in 4K so not really enough there to count towards slow motion. But it depends what you’re shooting, product commercials in slow motion are pretty done unless you can do something creative and different. So even if you don’t the majority in 4K, if you need the slow motion, a lot of the time nobody is going to instantly spot a 1080 clip thrown into a 4K edit 👌
@@JamesKellyStudio thank you James for the explanations and comment regarding the state of slow motion in product videos, this is a thing of the past.
Don't wave the camera so much as I feel ill - Great videos
Such a well done tutorial! However, at 10:16 - 10:22 your making of a title screen was so fast I could not follow! To make that title screen in Ps, did you have to take a screen shot, and then use that screen shot to make the title? I think that would be a very beneficial part to go over slowly. Again, I enjoy learning from you!
Nice man! Trying to create something similar. How did u do the shot with the can moving behind the glass?
Thanks, hopefully the tips in this video help. For the behind the glass shot, I had the van further away, on the edge of the surface I used. The glass was in the middle and then with the right camera angle that created a longer motion for the can which could pass through the glass. Hopefully makes sense?
ah yeah smart! Tnx!
How much watts is your lamp, i have one of min 250watts but i feel that's to much? Don't know what i'm doing wrong...
On this video all I was using for the main light was my Godox SL60 which is only a 60w light. My new Aputure light is 300w. What light are you using? There’s not really a thing of it being too much light if you are able to dim it to a low percentage output.
@@JamesKellyStudio i'm using a QL-1000 which won't go lower than approximately 250W (sorry for bad english, i'm from Belgium) and i don't know how to put it lower. I also use glass bottles which have more reflection I think
NOOOOOOO, why not share the Title screen how to ? hahaha another cool video thanks for sharing.
You like the thumbnail?? I try to make them look pretty polished
Maybe a tutorial on my thumbnail style will come soon 👍😊
@@JamesKellyStudio I do like the thumbnail. I was however referring to the animated text that passes the can in the video ;-)
Kobus Tollig ahhh I see. Simple mask, but of blur, and done. Maybe I’ll show that too in the future
Can you please give a link of lasy suzan please.
What microphone do you use?
N ICE, but the one I shoot Pepsi was not that Good enough
Your Pepsi one was cool man 👍
@@JamesKellyStudio the main thing is engagement, which i don't get too much but the recent Buggy i shoot, she got 80% engagement, Thanks for the response 🙂👍🏻
