As an Ishida fan I hope things go the way you speculated! As for the zero squad I lower the hat for how genius Kubo went in the anime, killing them via suicide rather than defeat lifts them to their reputation and shoots any doubt about their strength.
Shutara in action in the anime was amazing. Still, it's telling how apart from Ichibei none of the other members of Zero Squad seemed to be aware of what exactly they were guarding. All were floored with shock and somber when Ichibei revealed part of the truth in book 3 of CFYOW, Shutara herself not exactly taking it very well.

The thing I’m asking myself for quit some time is, what was ichibeis plan all along. I mean Squad Zero got demolished, the SS has been taken over, ichibei himself got frickin one tapped by Yh, 1. How was he sure that he’d get resurrected by Ichigo and 2nd what the hell was he gonna do after being defeated by Yh. He knew that Ichigo didn’t stand a chance against Yh and thus he wanted to make him the new SK but how would he have accomplished that. What would he after Yh defeated Ichigo and aizen would have done, after the whole world had been turned into 1. How would he have made Ichigo the new sk if Yh now is the SK of the world

From all the anime I've seen there are only 3 that have alot of elevated source material
1. Bleach tybw
2. Attack on titan
3. Solo leveling
Current One Piece, Demon Slayer & JJK have anime that are clearly better than the source material.

His plan was always the SK's plan. He would not fight it. He always trusted the SK.
