@@Alexandru1996_ We won't know until it's out, but the demo was completely wrong. I hope they'll really open their ears and listen to the fans, otherwise it's doomed to fail.
@@Warlord993 in my opinion the protagonist doesn't just alwais talk like a total moron, he also looks like one. Diego's face is very good but I'm not so sure about his armor, and they definetely should change the voice actor... He sounds like Team Four Star Zarbon!
as a heroin addict with years of sobriety, i loved the set up of this game, when he starts feeling emotions again after being off the drugs. Happened to me when i came off opiates, I felt so many emotions, and so much stronger then i had in years. listening to music was mind blowing, like hearing it for the first time.
I heard H addicts, while coming down, "get off" from the faintest physical stimulation, like a breeze of wind or the feeling of textile rubbing against the skin. Is that true? I can't even begin to image how it feels, but if what I've heard from ex addicts and what I've seen from Trainspotting is true, then it might just be that the feelings H give you, aren't supposed to be experienced in this world. Total disconnect from this hell reality, while tempting, would probably put me out of commission in a way that a potential afterlife would just make me regretful of it. Seeing as how heroin seems to be the most pleasurable and destructive thing at the same time, I'd say it's better to just wait for Heaven. We weren't born into this cesspit just to feel happiness. In that way, heroin might just well be a form of a curse. In any case, kudos for breaking it. Most people can't even stop with the cigarettes. Seeing as how this world doesn't seem to want to give most of us the opportunity to have a chance at a normal life, I can only say that while I can't fault you for how you were, I certainly admire you for your strength at getting out of it. I don't normally ask people to pat themselves on the back, but you've earned it.
@@evanharrison4054 first, yes, when you are in withdrawl you are extremely sensitive, which has led to more then one awkward explanation for me when bedtime fun time is over in 30 seconds lol. And, yea thats a good way of describing it, that it was something we were never intended to feel, its like hacking the system to feel something so insanely good that its impossible to achieve any other way, by literally dumping all the feel good chemical your brain has at once. And your brain then decides (from the way our survival system works) that you need to keep doing this because its obviously good if we get that much reward. really opens your eyes to how machine like we are. H is definitely something where ignorance is bliss, the less you know about how it feels, the better. Because no matter how good it is, its not worth it, but we will convince ourselves in the moments that it is worth it. Its like being extremely starving for food, and if you have no money, how hungry before you steal the food. Then things just keep escalating like they always do. i think of it like a videogame, like the sims, if you see someone playing that game and they dont know the cheats then theres no temptation. but if you give them the money cheat, what are the chances the never use it? and after they use it once, what are they chances they think its awesome and use it a bunch? probably pretty good. h is like that, but instead of money its a happiness cheat, and when you struggle with depression and anxiety, its hard to resist, especially when your young. thank you, appreciated the kind words
@@cornergiftbox9973 Thanks for the clarification. I always had this instinct to stay the hell away from such extremely effective stimulants and depressants. I did see what it does to people, though... Here's where I get fascinated. See, I wholeheartedly believe that this world is Hell. Not that there isn't another level to it, and you really want to stay out of that place if you can, but all in all, I think it's safe to say that it is not Heaven, that this world is part of. I had the worst childhood. See, I was kind of a prodigy. By a few months, I could form complex sentences, and by the age of three or four, I surpassed my family in intelligence by an extremely wide margin. I learned how to read and write in two months and I learned english in about a year. Not a good thing to do when your father offloads you on your mentally ill mother and her even more mentally ill mother. I was beaten, tortured, starved, exposed to the elements, had my stuff stolen or destroyed, thrown out usually. The upside is that I'm frost and draft resistant, but I'm broken, cracked or bruised from the top of my head to the bones in my feet. I can hardly walk to the corner store without smelling blood. The only reason I did not stuff their heads in the freezer(besides my innate morality) was that I have faint memories of...well, the outside of Plato's cave, if you know what I mean. Ever met someone who claimed to remember their previous lives and wondered that if they're speaking the truth, and how fxxking amazing it may be? It's not. It's terror inducing. It's also extremely alienating. I rarely feel like I have something to talk about with other people. "Hi", "bye", "thanks" and "sorry" are the four words 99% of people hear from me. Knowing what's on the other side is even worse. Anyway, what stayed my hand at retribution was an understanding of insufficiency, and that of perfection. I understood that whoever put me here, also most likely planned this exact outcome. My mother says I killed her son and assumed his form, but that's a very reductionist way of looking at things when your greatest regret is that your kid isn't a soulless automaton. It's not like I pushed another soul out of this coil. If it weren't for me, this thing would just be a husk, not at all unlike the way they are. What I want to know is...is the memory of the bliss you experienced from H, inspiration enough to keep you going indefinitely, or does the mere thought of it makes you want to spiral down into passivity? I merely wonder if the "feelgood" it causes is actually evil, or it's just the sensation of infinite perfection that breaks you down? I have no illusions H is evil, but it would be very very ironic if it was the actual sensation of heavenly bliss that can break people down. Of course there's an equally high probability that it is merely a chemical overload. Otherwise, heroin survivors would all be living saints or dangerous lunatics. I know what perfection is like. It irritates me how this world is all wrong. This pit we call reality...it's all just dragging us down. Sorry if I sound too much like if Tom Petty ate Harlan Ellison with a side of HP Lovecraft. You should hear me at dinner parties... I don't really have anything else to add or ask, especially not on youtube, but I must thank you for your kindness. I don't usually reach out to people, but when I do, it's almost always an unmitigated disaster. Most people either think that I'm up to no good, or they think I'm a naive idiot and that they can exploit me to their own personal gain. Truth is, I help people. That's what I do. I find half dead fools in a ditch on the side of the road(that's a bit more...metaphorical, most of the time) and teach them how to be successful without giving up on who they are. I show them what the world is, their places in it, and how they can work towards the common goal, that is to escape. Problem is...most people cannot be helped, and the ones that can, often do not want to be helped. I understand, it takes an enormous amount of personal strength to declare your enmity towards the world and putting up with the forces that will marshal upon you when you do, but still... Imagine, from birth I was convinced to my bones that the only reason I'm in this shitehole is to help the remaining souls get out. Figuring out how little that number is today...makes me feel redundant at times. I have great aptitude for leadership and a bottomless and circumferenceless well of empathy, and almost nobody upon whom I could exercise these qualities. Anyway, in case this is the last time we talk for some reason, let me say this one thing to you: It matters. If you think this world, and your existence in it is pointless, then you are only partially right. Oh, and never give up. I can sense from your words and the flow of your writing that you are a good man, or at least on the path of bettering yourself. Sure, you probably did some shitty stuff(grandma wants her VHS back, probably), but never forget that in this world, time exists. While you may never unfuck the past, you have a free ticket for a better future. Not necessarily better for the you of this life, but as much as this world insists otherwise, morality isn't just a fantasy and your actions do matter.
You sold me on this game. Reminds me of the "rough around the edges" vibe of Dragon's Dogma, which is one of the coolest RPGs ever. Sometimes that bit of grit and jank makes a game feel more authentic in a hard to describe way, and helps it stand out from generic "inoffensive" titles that don't get the blood pumping. I'm in.
It's underrated because of the bad combat in the early game, mostly due to stamina being drained in 2 hits and monster enemies having much higher attack speed then you in the beginning (they have higher attack speed through the game, but you get to stager them later)😜 If they just polish the combat system a bit this game would be loved by a much wider audience
Or run to every quest location because you can outrun every enemy in the game, skip combat entirely by upgrading charisma and finally get the good gear and kill everything you really have to (in order to finish a few quests) with endgame gear. Thats how I played the game and it was amazing. You can get so strong, just by making the right decisions and betraying a few people (and by stealing).
Yes, Pirana Bytes makes the best RPG games. In Fallout 4 you start and kill everything which makes it boring, while try this on Gothic , Risen or ELex ? Great character progression and levelling system.
Elex is an excellent, immersive game. that's how good rpgs need to be: punishing, getting you involved to find solutions, not brain-dead hack and slash games like those AAA titles. I am a Gothic franchise fanatic, and I find Elex highly satisfying. The story is so rich and convoluted, full of fake endings that just keep on piling towards a beautiful, cold, atmospheric conclusion. a very good game for the true RPG lovers, not just your typical short-span attention players nowadays.
This studio is an incredibly talented group of people. I think a lot of people look at their games compared to huge triple A titles, and pass them on. They’re pretty passionate about what they make and there is a charm in a lot of their games you just don’t get in many other places. Nice vid man
Like Spiders and their games Bound By Flame was pretty bad but with Technomancer and Greedfall (especially Greedfall) they've finally found a good footing to build a following with I hope people start giving Pirranhabytes another chance and learn to love their games as well
The first couple of hours were horrible. Most casual players will not finish this game. And yet, I had over 50 hours in this game, and I ended up loving it.

DUUUUDE, had to come back and thank You...i finally took it up and im over 50 hours in and loving it...exploration is on another level, mad gothic vibes in a post apocalyptic setting...cant wait for elex 2
I loved the vertical world design. It's how I expected open world level design to go in this direction when I was growing up playing Morrowind. Even though the mainstream games have disappointed I'm glad some of these less popular games like this, Demon's Souls, and Dragons Dogma have been developing on this idea.
I quit playing witcher 3 to give Elex a try and i am having waayyy more fun with Elex. It has tons of characters to meet who actually have interesting things to say and quests to give u. You have to get stronger so you can delve deeper into the world. I love it
I hated this game at first, but ultimately, by the end, It became one of my favorite sleeper games up there with Alpha Protocol. The character Progression is outstanding.
One night I was on acid and decided to buy a random game on Xbox called Elex. I didn't know how to do anything and it was so challenging. The LSD didnt help... But something about this game really interests me... the atmosphere, the challenge.. it feels like an true oldshcool RPG that is so rare these days. I will definitely buy it on PC eventually!
I just finished the game last week. I spend now a whole week to fill the hole, that the game left. Such a great game. I could not find right now a new game like this. The game draged me soooo deep in. I guess i have to play it again.

I'm here during the 2020 Black Friday sale on Steam, highly considering grabbing the Piranha Bytes & Friends bundle (which includes ELEX), as I'm a huge RPG fan and I've heard good things about this studio. This review helped quite a bit, thanks!
Long time Gothic fan. Elex delivers 100%, I haven't had such an immersive gaming experience in years. It was a while since I played anything so I decided to pick up Witcher 3 and it was so boring for me with all the question marks, empty lifeless cities, scaling enemies and over dramatized cutscenes for everything. So I dropped W3 and tried the all terrible Elex and omg, it's a perfect game for me. I kinda developed a weird relationship with Elex, it's just so immersive and has it's own vibe. The best thing is that accepting the game as it is and learning to navigate through enemies and the world is such a rewarding experience. Also I recommend using Elex Overhaul mod which makes the game more balanced, you can feel your progress gradually.
I’m currently on my 3rd playthrough. I love the world of Magalan. I also really like the ‘cold system’ they have in the game. A very unique spin on the karma that most rpgs tend to adopt, I find the logical and emotional adds a level of depth that I like to look into when interacting with characters and environment. It reminds me a lot of Kreia from swkotor 2, obviously they’re not the same-thing but I like to adopt her approach when playing other rpgs too. For example, I played a new game of fallout 4 but I decided to adopt a more cold attitude when dealing with the game. Unfortunately fallout 4 is very limited in the decision making department and it was no help with such an emotional protagonist. I’d love to see this in the sequel if the devs ever get around to making it.
This game needs more attention. I hated it when I played it on 2017 but now I can’t play other rpgs because I fell in love with elex quest system and character progression
I had a great time playing ELEX and can't wait for ELEX 2! Also, if you can understand German, I highly recommend playing the game in its original language... the voice acting is better as well!
I actually played Elex on pc quite recently. It's great especially if you install balance mod (and some other smaller mods). People complain about the combat, but I played melee/bow character on highest difficulty and I actually liked it. It's not the greatest combat system ever, but if you give it some time, you will eventually adapt (and probably even like it). The game has some flaws here and there but it's really good overall.
I was scheptical, but decided to give it a try! The progression is a bit slow, I don't have the feeling I am getting stronger (lv12 currently, acolyte cleric) but I am amazed by how big and complex the world is. It's a great RPG, I just hope I can build those stats soon and start getting some decent gears!!
This was a really well done game review. Called all the aspects that are important. I will check this game out and keep watching more of your videos! Keep it up
I made a big problem for myself after playing Red Dead redemption 2 because since then almost no game have appeal to me, all seem flat in graphics, immersion, plot, environment, characters, emotional attachments... Maybe because I was out of the gaming world for years (because of job, study and even legal problems) and then suddenly I come back playing the best game ever made and since then my mind got used to the high level bar RDR2 put, so my parameter is outta reality since RDR2 is one of those games made with a huuuge budget and years of dedication which very few games have the condition to do so. 😢🤦♂️ What I mean is that since RDR2, unconsciously I'm still expecting to experience a "real life simulator" wherever it is, of RDR2 made me feel a REAL BADASS COWBOY (hunting, fishing, dueling, poker, hoes, horse races...), my mind and will are now always expecting to be a REAL BADASS WARRIOR/WANDERER/MAGE/ASSASSIN... depending on the game I'm playing, but no game offer this perfect balance between immersion and fun that RDR2 offers! 🤦♂️
@Daniel Yes, and unfortunately after I played Red dead redemption 2. I say "unfortunately" because you I know it's the best action rpg *for its time*, but red dead redemption 2 is far superior in so many things! Especially in immersion, animation details, voice acting, npcs A.I... And before you say this: I know The Witcher 3 gives a different experience bc it is a fantasy rpg so it can't be compared in this aspect, but I'm using a different criteria here, I'm saying that RDR2 is the BEST GAME EVER MADE TECHNICALLY AND IMMERSION-WISE! COMPARING TO EVERY GENRE EVEN THOUGH IT'S A COMPLEX COMPARISON, IT'S STILL VALID IF WE ADOPT THIS "GOAT" THING.
@Daniel Ellex is one I really wanna play. Piranha bytes is a very promising developer. I never played Call of Juarez but I always wanted. The thing is I restarted late the gaming life, so I lost many great titles from older generations. I skipped all the ps2 and PS3 era. My last videogame was Ps1.
at first I was going to give up on this game now I'm happy I did not I can't get enough of it now it turn out to be a great game to me I'm happy I been patient with it great video by the way
I stayed playing this a couple months ago for the first time after seeing it on your channel. It’s a great and very underrated RPG. I appreciate you informing others about what a great game it is.
I's be interested to hear what you have to say about using exploits/bugs/cheesing strategies etc. in rpg games or even straight up using cheats. Like stunlocking a difficult enemy so that he pretty much can't do anything at all, or baiting them to fall of a ledge. I remember back in gothic 1, on my n-th playthrough I would use an exploit to get many duplicates of a potion that increases strength so that I can be a god in the early game, even though I could have easily achieved that with cheats. I suppose it felt better because I was doing something that the game kinda allowed, still had to go through the process and it felt more "earned". Keep the videos coming mate!
absolutly loved elex, one of the only games iv bought on release and not been disappointed by.i completed it before the update and had only a few issues.pb games are amazing with issues but to say it a small studio they do a great job.realy looking forward to elex 2 and hope they bring gothic to console
Regarding bugs, I am playing a PC version right now from Steam, haven't noticed any bugs like at all and I'm half through the game now. Overhaul mod also makes the game more balanced and more enjoyable. Give it a go, it's great.
Ignore melee meme, acquire flamethrower. You are as bland and strong as a wet noodle on purpose, but you have no way of knowing its a part of Jax's character development of previously only being strong because of elex. I almost wish you played as a doped up Alb for a moment to drive home the power difference as you desperately fight a rat with a pipe. The "cheat" exp you get from elex pots that effects your cold level and potential ending is really clever.
I played Elex just after release and I was generally not convinced. Now I long for some good old school cRPG. I was thinkig what could I play, then I watched your movie here, read some comments below it and I'm giving it another shot.
Man i got the game some time ago cause it looked similar to risen, but the goddamn runing around 3 hours into the game and i was still in the berserkers town trying to do those sidequests.
played it until chapter 4 , and i haven't finished it, but i found it enjoyfull now when i take a look back. Maybe i could revisit it, its definitly a game with a lot of potential, it has a lot of good things, and a lot of bad things but it has everything a open world RPG game should have and more !
I completed elex recently and I kind of enjoyed it but the ending was totally pointless and it kind of makes me regret wasting my time on the game. It just feels like it goes nowhere. It just sort of ends on a wet fart and completely deflates the whole experience.
@@Kaldor_Draigo it's fair, game has far more lows than highs in writing. I don't really understand why can someone have gripes with core game design decision though. You can have this one way or the other, and it's fully up to developer. Love it or hate it, but this is not something up for debate, or pro or flaw of a game itself. Maybe if it was first for Developer and a change to norm but every single game they made was like that :p
I love Gothic 1 and 2, Gothic 2 is in my TOP 5 ever in 35 years of gaming experience. BUT.... already 20 years ago the combat system was a disaster, but the game was so far ahead of its time considering atmosphere and the open hand-crafted world, that one could look beyond that. The combat mechanics of comparable games like Morrowind were mostly terrible as well. When Risen came along, at least there was Dark Messiah of Might and Magic to demonstrate how proper fighting in an action adventure might work. But in 2020 there are games like Dark Souls, Nioh or Mordhau and I just cannot stand the developers laziness anymore concerning the gameplay which is every bit as clunky and abysmal since the first gothic. Same goes for the dialogue. 20 years ago it was brilliant, but not anymore by todays standards. What I wanted to say with my rant: In my opinion Elex is just the latest lukewarm brew of the 20 year old formula, with minor changes at best.
For someone having so much gaming experience, it sadly doesn’t save you from doing terrible comparisons. You’re comparing two linear action games and one multiplayer hack and slash game to and open world title. Open world games don’t just revolve around combat, its resources are put into the entire world from world design, story, characters, combat, questing structure, enemy behavior etc. Hacking and slashing away like NiOh does is not easy to do for an open world game when the game has to render the entire world in the background and also make sure that the living npc’s and enemies don’t get in the way when you’re targeting 1 specific enemy or object. In fact, there is not a single open world title that has a combat like NiOh. Even CD Projekt Red, who had the entirety of Poland (joking) working on The Witcher 3 doesn’t have a smooth and responsive combat like NiOh. And the wealthiest gaming developer Rockstar has a very dated “combat” system in their games as well. So a small team like Piranha Bytes could never come close to that. What you need to do is compare games in their respective genres with other games in that same genre, while keeping in mind how many people were working on said game and how big their budget was. Every other comparison is straight foolish.
Your point is valid and I accept your criticism about me comparing apples to oranges concerning the combat mechanics. Also highlighting the relatively small size of the developer team certainly is valid. I can only come up with Kingdom Come: Deliverance as an open world game with nice combat mechanics, but this combat system is focused around battling human enemies. I will try to refine my statement, which ultimately is not about the combat mechanic in the first place: The only redeeming quality Elex has - in my opinion- is a tiny spark of that atmosphere, common to all "gothic" games. I remember Gothic 1, when you were bullied around by everyone you met in the first hours of the game. And you just couldn't really do anyrhing about it. This was a totally new experience, as rpg-games at that time usually only let you bite as much as you could chew, apart from some Boss expositions. This was the first world, you really were a part of. Since then, nothing has changed. You can try to produce six iterations of "The sixth sense" or "fight club" but I doubt it will work. Of course it is ok, as long as there are people who are willing to spend between 50 to 80 hours on these types of games and enjoy them and the developers can feed their families, I just am disappointed the did not take any risks. They certainly had the potential.
I would love to see what they could do with greater resources behind them. Elex 2s trailer has dropped and some leaks of an october 2021 release. Excited.
See , I already have finished this game twice as a Cleric . Now you go and upload why it is awesome again . Shit . Guess I gotta replay it again now... damn you
I'm loving Elex. I think it's very underrated. The game like previous Piranha Bytes games has clunky controls and the textures may not be the best in the world but, boy, the world building is simply phenomenal. PB without question is one of the best world designers in the industry. It's a masterpiece in terms of world building. It's a great joy to explore every nook n cranny for handplaced loot. The gameplay in general is very satisfying and challenging specially when you play it on hard mode(not ultra mode). I can't wait for Elex 2!
Get the Saved Game Modifier Mod. ELEX does a pretty good job at setting up a game world, but it's lack of polish translates into a STEEP learning curve, a soul crushing grind, an unforgiving combat and levelling mechanic that only allows for ONE kind of successful build: melee first, then grind for 50 hours to build a ranged character. BTW, you find out that you need to dump all your points into strength and constitution at first, so you can use the first available weapons. Watch the "Strong Start" videos, or you will be re-loading the game and replaying the first 2 hrs of the game over and over again.
ever since you mentioned they are the devs who created risen, I realized how enjoyable the game is. I had over 100hs with risen series with no doubt I gonna pick it. I do appreciate to ur vid
If you guys are still on the fence about this game I would highly recommend it. It’s not perfect There’s a steep learning curve and a lot of frustrating times especially when you first start but it’s still a fun game. The combat is horrible can’t lie but the world building is interesting and fun. The different factions and all of their rules and quest. It’s fun to be a part of and experience. Once you get better armor and weapons you’ll have a lot better of a time. But you won’t get them till hours and hours in. I’m 20 hours in and there’s still enemies that obliterate me. All that being said get it if you can. I’m sure it’s super low and price. And It’s tying me over till cyberpunk comes out
I haven't beaten the game yet, just got it, but I love love loooove the world as a whole. Massive Immersive Complex NPC interavtions Char progression (so damn creative. You actually get faster and more agile as you lvl. Pretty dope and innovative) Difficulty (I know I know. Probably too tough, but it's because it flows perfectly with the story) The game is a gem I'd say is hidden.
Enjoyed it a lot more than i expected. Has some serious flaws, but I rather like it. Excited to return to it somepoint soon, going to be one of my streamed games I think.
I found Elex somewhat annoying to play (for melee & spells) at the time, but it's grown on me over the years. It's a really good, unique game with an abundance of freedom to play how you want and I'm looking forward to the sequel when it comes out as a day 1 purchase.
Games addicted, open world, regardless of having a lack of combat and etc. Best part you have fun! Hopefully they make another one ,as well as another risen
Tempted to go for another run soon. I only played once but i gave it a lenghty ass 150+ hr playthrough where i felt like i explored EVERYTHING. Spent atkeast half of The game factionless, then went for a badass outlaw, with dat warhamer 40k chainsword and shield style for melee, and for The latter big fights i literally poured most money info craftic costumized heavy weapon ammo with various effects for each situation and went full terminator. Choose hard diff as it seemed like the diff the game was meant to be played at. Oh, also, outlaw drugs turn you into a temp killing macine, lol. Use the strongest drugs for The big fights.
Love the game. Combat is clunky, dialogues and character acting is ok, but worldbuilding, atmosphere and exploration is exceptionally good. I love the exploring. Even while playing the 3rd time (this time in english) I find new stuff. Anyone who knows german and english, I reccomend playing it at least twice. Once in german and once in english. The dialogues are sometimes comoletely different and sometimes can give you completely new experiences on somethings. If you look at it, all joinable factions are a-holes. Too bad you can't join the Seperatist.
I think that the Piranha bites studios has a great potential ever since i played risen 3, people give bad reviews to almos every game they create so i am glad that there's someone who thinks diferent.
I wanna see a game that’s like a Victor Vran / GreedFall mix. What Victor Vran did for that style of game.. Has so much more potential with that style. GreedFall Style, Story type, and Amour modification. I’d be happy with both of the games just making another game.. But, I just see those games coming together and making an Epic game. I really like what Victor Vran did to the Diablo like style. Especially with the camera, jumping, melee combat, artwork, as well as the choice of character.
IF and that's a BIG IF they implement the option to import a savegame into Elex 2, then I would love it, since I did everything possible on my Cleric. My Jax is a force to be reckoned with => highest Cleric Rank with the badass Armor (although I wear the Alb Armor Set) and The Mortal Beam legendary Rifle. NOTHING stands a chance against my Jax.
I don't know man... I mean , the game is pretty good , but the combat system I remember was very odd and hard , the final boss made me rage a lot , the jetpack is fine , game is good but with old mechanics , this is what the developers should change, and try to grow up as company . I will definitely get elex again , thank you man , can't wait for outward dlc , best of luck to you \m/
Decided to pick it up, steam winter 2020 sale. :)) I have never played a PB game but theres a first for everything, I will be aware of slower character development compared to most rpgs out there but the world looks so cool!!
this is weird I just saw this video from you because about a week and a half ago I decided to finally play Elex. I bought it on sale and then just never played it. It is super grainy and unforgiving in the beginning but once you get a few upgrades under your belt it definitely goes from Jaden Smith hard to just regular hard, I'm definitely enjoying it that is when I don't die and realize I hadn't shaved for 1/2 hour
Yeah I tried playing this game but the combat and movements are soo clunky. I can't play this game unless I'm playing ranger, the melee/block gameplay is awful.
I agree the start is hard and clunky, but it gets better and the great quests sucks you in. Later you become op. Elex has one of the best progression feelings!
@@sensoeirensen Melee combat doesn't evolve from that, and magic targeting is pretty horrible. The world is great to explore though, so if your happy playing a ranger it's a really good game.
My biggest problem with Elex was the combat. It's super clunky. I had chosen Cleric in my first playthrough because the abilities seemed the coolest. However, I found myself using only a couple of the spells most of the time in combat because it kept enemies away from me. The dodging/rolling is alright and is more logical in combat, but health and defense are bit more challenging to keep up so you don't take a lot of damage without rolling/dodging everything. I'm much more used to the flowing combat in Bioware's games (not so much Mass Effect 1 or Dragon Age: Origins lol). But Elex wasn't horrible combat wise, just different and clunky.
At first it's pretty difficult when it comes to combat to the point one wants to avoid it. It being the combat but not the whole game itself. That's on the easiest setting too. This is a really good thing though as it forces one into the role. Really good RPG, I've played like 60 hrs on my first playthrough and that's without having joined a faction until like level 20 or something. Not sure how much the story is changed by actions as I've not done multiple playthroughs ,but compared to really great RPGs like RDR2 it feels like your decisions will alter the story, so far. So that's good lol. I was really surprised how much the game kept my attention despite the difficulty)
I just recently found Elex for ten bucks and i hate that i did not find it sooner. I would have paid full price for it and i dont understand some of the hate. This game is like Skyrim, Fallout and Mass Effect rolled into one. Some of the dialog is too long and I wanted to quit in the beginning.because you cant really kill anything. The game makes you earn everything. I made it to level 20 before joining a faction. I had five companions and found the area called origin before joining a faction. I have already put 80 hours into the game. You have to give the game a chance. If you love RPG's, i promise you will fall in love with it
I loved this game the clerics were my favourite faction blackhole was amazing, and i turned off stamina use when that option was added it was far more fun not having to manage a resource it made the combat flow alot better and faster in my opinion, i thought the difficulty customization was amazing i wish other games would use this system.
I played this on ps4 when it came out and started replaying since quarantine on pc at much higher fps etc and god damn it’s so much better than I originally gave it credit. Never been a huge fan of piranha bytes as I play rpgs for combat mainly and don’t give a shit about story (bloodborne excluded best story in a game I’ve ever experienced) but elex is quite charming and the combat is far less janky than I remember.
What were you playing on for this review? I'm thinking of buying this on PS4 pro and want to know if it still has the same issues it had at launch when I first tried it, mainly crashing.
I played it right after release. And yes, it's really hard at the beginning. But the road to success is so rewarding. I liked the world and the quests really really much. And the graphics was with Reshade enabled nice too. I recommend it too, especially if you don't find a rpg which fills the hole after Witcher 3. I tried many rpg's but for me only the Skyrim Total Conversion "Enderal: Forgotten Stories" and Elex come close. Games like Kindom Come Deliverence (I played it a month ago, it was chanky as hell), Dragon Age Inquisition, Assassin's Creed Origins, etc. weren't as enjoyable as those two titles.
You will be disappointed again, you either think it's great or you hate its shitty mechanics and slow af buggy combat, boring story, and the single worst start to a game I have ever played.
I always prefer reviews from “real” gamers. Giant corporations arent too reliable. I got Elex for $10 and feels like i stole it! Its so much fun. Combat a little clunky but i dont care. Witcher 3 combat isnt that great either but it gets high praise.
I wish that one day PB will make real AAA cRPG. Game like Gothic/Elex but where every mechanic is polished and graphic is on top level. But well Elex 2 will be enaugh for me.
I just bought it on the Steam Winter sale I'll come back with a comment after I put quite a few hours into it. I've read the negative opinions..they mostly seem to revolve around the combat being bad....although my first glance analysis is, the combat is more like Morrowind where it is live action but has a D&D style combat round system. A lot of people can't handle that type of hybrid system.
I would recomend this game, not for Its combat, but if you like me, love heavy dialog games. And ofc the game does look good, and have intresting quests. But the start is hard to get past.
Sad moment is that my PS4 pro kept crashing at the end part where you face the boss that's like a robot. But it was a super easy game especially exploiting the throw grenade and roll trick which made every single enemy not even a competition. Overall great game and the free choice is pretty fucking cool
Just to avoid any confusion, the remake of Gothic is not being developed by Piranha Bytes. THQ Nordic Barcelona is working on that project.
So that's why it sucks

as a heroin addict with years of sobriety, i loved the set up of this game, when he starts feeling emotions again after being off the drugs. Happened to me when i came off opiates, I felt so many emotions, and so much stronger then i had in years. listening to music was mind blowing, like hearing it for the first time.

Hope you're doing much better now and staying strong

Elex is criminally underated
yeah, I own it, it's good.
Wouldn't be as good without the jet pack
It is one of the only sandbox games I enjoyed.
It's underrated because of the bad combat in the early game, mostly due to stamina being drained in 2 hits and monster enemies having much higher attack speed then you in the beginning (they have higher attack speed through the game, but you get to stager them later)😜
If they just polish the combat system a bit this game would be loved by a much wider audience

There is a difference between Hack and Slash and RPGs.
This studio is an incredibly talented group of people.

They’re pretty passionate about what they make and there is a charm in a lot of their games you just don’t get in many other places.

Yup. On my first playthrough I was melee/gun and now on second I'm melee/ now and having so much fun.
I was scheptical, but decided to give it a try! The progression is a bit slow, I don't have the feeling I am getting stronger (lv12 currently, acolyte cleric) but I am amazed by how big and complex the world is. It's a great RPG, I just hope I can build those stats soon and start getting some decent gears!!
ah yes Elex. thats how i found this channel \o/ i really hope for Elex 2

Really looking forward to Elex 2. And I loved the cool shades at the top of the windmill - what a climb!
Just bought Elex for $9.99, was waiting for a sale. The combat looks rough, but the world looks excellent. Great video.

The game is tough in the beginning but you will be an absolute juggernaut by the late game if you stick with it. The progression is fantastic!
Regarding bugs, I am playing a PC version right now from Steam, haven't noticed any bugs like at all and I'm half through the game now. Overhaul mod also makes the game more balanced and more enjoyable. Give it a go, it's great.
I loved the atmosphere of the game :) Sadly I lost my savegame and I am too lazy to start a new game.
I need to pick this one up. I was a big Gothic 1&2 fan back in a day.

Great video on the first game.
Man i got the game some time ago cause it looked similar to risen, but the goddamn runing around 3 hours into the game and i was still in the berserkers town trying to do those sidequests.

Which ending did you have? Good, neutral or icecold? I think it works only as huge cliffhanger for Elex 2.
Yes I think that was an open end because of elex 2
GameStop is having a sale on pre-owned games now, this is going for $9.99 .. I might grab it🤔
Did ya play it? What'd you think. I know i loved it once I got through its rough outershell.
I loved it. My only gripes were the lack of starting character creation and a voiced protagonist. My imagination is better than that.
Yeah did you have same gripes with Witcher 3? And million other games? It's your problem not game issue.
Cypeq to be fair, i think Geralt and the witcher 3 were written a little, tiny bit better.
It's available in this months Humble Bundle for the $12 for 12 games deal. Thanks for the review.
Shit . Guess I gotta replay it again now... damn you
Haha same? Two times as a cleric one warm one icecold. Maybe 3rd run with Outlaw...I don‘t like the astethics of the berserkers...cavemen tsss
After being on the fence since release - this video finally convinced me to buy Elex.
Thank you, I'm looking forward to playing it :)
Thanks for your video, you made me reconsidering buying this game!
Cool channel. Got a sub from me. Not too many channels properly cover more niche, AA RPGs like this.
ever since you mentioned they are the devs who created risen, I realized how enjoyable the game is.
Massive
Immersive
Complex NPC interavtions
Char progression (so damn creative. You actually get faster and more agile as you lvl. Pretty dope and innovative)
Difficulty (I know I know. Probably too tough, but it's because it flows perfectly with the story)
The game is a gem I'd say is hidden.
Honestly i consider this a must play for those who played other Piranha games and it´s a good rpg for those who doesn´t.
Man, That Moon
Enjoyed it a lot more than i expected. Has some serious flaws, but I rather like it. Excited to return to it somepoint soon, going to be one of my streamed games I think.
Is it like Kingdoms Of Amalur??
30 Hrs playthrough. Played on medium and killed the last boss in 4 hits + special attack (Mace). Was a lot of fun!
Elex is one of the best rpg sci fi hands down. Man, what a game. The story is wonderful.
I still play it! Just something about those pretty cloth effects and rainstorms
Got it on sale for £10. You sold it to me when you said 150 hours gameplay. For £10, that is solid.
Loved this one at launch, think im going to play through again
I don't know man... I mean , the game is pretty good , but the combat system I remember was very odd and hard , the final boss made me rage a lot , the jetpack is fine , game is good but with old mechanics , this is what the developers should change, and try to grow up as company .
I will definitely get elex again , thank you man , can't wait for outward dlc , best of luck to you \m/
Decided to pick it up, steam winter 2020 sale. :)) I have never played a PB game but theres a first for everything, I will be aware of slower character development compared to most rpgs out there but the world looks so cool!!
This game is fantastic. If you enjoyed gothic or any of the risen games you will love this. Highly recommend giving this game a chance.
this is weird I just saw this video from you because about a week and a half ago I decided to finally play Elex.
I was hyped for it, then tried to play it and o boy the character movement was so sluggish and not so precise. I hade to stop playing :/
Agree I played it last year and was blown away
At first it's pretty difficult when it comes to combat to the point one wants to avoid it. It being the combat but not the whole game itself. That's on the easiest setting too. This is a really good thing though as it forces one into the role. Really good RPG, I've played like 60 hrs on my first playthrough and that's without having joined a faction until like level 20 or something. Not sure how much the story is changed by actions as I've not done multiple playthroughs ,but compared to really great RPGs like RDR2 it feels like your decisions will alter the story, so far. So that's good lol.
I was really surprised how much the game kept my attention despite the difficulty)
i absolutely loved this game. But i played it on console. Been meaning to replay it on PC. Today is the day.
If you love RPG's, i promise you will fall in love with it
I started to play ELEX lately. It will not be my personal No.1 but it's a good one.
The fact that I can one hit alb and cleric combat robots with my bow is great
This game is truly amazing and much better experience than most triple A games released nowadays
I'm going give it another try. I had elex since it launched and I wasn't comfortable with a keyboard and mouse the time. I'm down with second chances.
You will be disappointed again, you either think it's great or you hate its shitty mechanics and slow af buggy combat, boring story, and the single worst start to a game I have ever played.
Changing some settings helps a lot
Amazing in depth review. I watched ign and gamespot's review. But this review made me decide to buy elex
Great video, as usual!
