I've said it once and I'll say it a thousand more times. The James R. Barker has one of the best Maritime whistles I've ever heard. The Two horns together sound a D# Major Power Chord with a resultant harmonic Major third. Such a beautiful chord.
@@DreDesignsGLMP most horns on cars, trains, and ships are tuned to a major 3rd. The perfect 5th gives an unusual sense of pure power, almost unnatural.
Andrea, I just saw your video and loved the salute from the James R. Barker. I've witnessed the Barker entering the Canal and harbor in Duluth and when those horns sing, they do send a chill down the spine and goose bumps to appear. Now I live in Ohio so no big boats and it's live cameras or videos. I could sit by the hour and watch those lake freighters clear the locks at the Soo. My wife thinks I'm missing a screw or two. God Bless.
Andrea you always have the best videos love your videos it always blows me away by how many awesome videos you come out with but my favorite one by the far is the one you did when you went for a ride along and got to see how they do crew changes and mail deliveries keep up the great work ma'am your a darn good videographer 🙂
I have taken advantage of all your postings of the JRB and linked them together for one long video of one "Bark" following another. Had to work on it with some help from my computer genius son but he made it work.
Thank you so much... I just try to learn as much as I can every season, I absorb what people on the Lakes tell me, I research, and I just try to retain as much as I can! It will always be a learning curve for me which I love... the more I can learn the more I have to share with everyone :)
@@DreDesignsGLMP thanks for the reply, my ship watching place is the Cape Cod Canal, look it up. You never know what you’ll see a fishing boat to a Monster Car Carrier.

The harmonic pulse of those horns is just fantastic!!!
Tyler Mac it’s the James barker
There is nothing to say. Nobody sings it like the James R Barker. Thank you. I rewatch it often.
The Barker is the only one that has the two level sounds. I enjoy all the horns on the great lakes
Goosebumps....YES LOVE that High note transition into a low rattle.....Cant' explain....
It is apparently a musical 5th... it naturally goes together which is why we all find it so appealing... or so I've been told

Thank you for sharing!! The Barker Bark is AMAZING!!!!!!
I get an instant giggle and a tear.
Definitely needs to be a ringtone for my phone
Such a noble horn on the James Barker, love that ship❤️❤️
I love how the Barker announces her presence with authority.
A captain's salute is one long and two short. A master salute is three long and two short. A Barker salute is three extra long, and two long.
Yes we do love that Barker Bark! Thanks for posting!
Great footage. Wouldn't I just love to experience the sights & sounds of such ships in person.
The very faint echoes after each blast are a treat to hear.
One of my favorite ships, I think I missed this one, what a nice find.. 👍
What a sight to see!! I too got goosebumps. Such a beautiful sound!
Nothing like the Barker bark 😁😁!
Agreed!
James R Barker, Arther Anderson, and a bonus of 2 more, be still my heart.
Absolutely beautiful ❤️

Cool!
I love the echos of his salute
me too!
Wow! I just found your page. Very nice. Thanks for sharing this. I did subscribe.
That view and salute is on my bucket list, nice video
Never fails to make me smile
Thank you for your informative commentary. There is nothing on the lakes like the 'bark'.
Agreed! Nothing like it!
I think I’ve seen every video of the J R Barker. Awesome.
Sometimes his salute is soooo long, I think his horn is stuck. But it is the best double horn.
I start laughing when it just keeps going and going lol
THE Voice of The Great Lakes. Along with your terrific accent!!
This gives me shivers as well!! I also get teary-eyed. I'm a crazy old lady, I know.
Love love love the Barker Bark!!
Me too! :)
Fantastic horns
the barker is my favourite ship that passes through the soo along with the Viking Octantis
He does a master salute at the Duluth lift bridge every time as well.
I was actually there for one of them once... what a treat... nothing beats it! :)
The Barker is the best,🤗
I just found your video’s, you do a great job. Where did all your knowledge of shipping on the lake come from.

A finely tuned instument...
Love the horns its a lovely ship 🛳
Sounds like the horn at the Gates of Heaven.
How do you know when certain ships are coming in and out? I want to see this ship in person someday and need to know when she's coming
NICE!! I'd like to have her horn as a ringtone!
U can hear that horn all the to Texas. Hahahahahah
WAAAAAWOOOOOOOOO!!!
Almost sounds like the machines from war of the worlds with tom cruse.
good job
How long does it take for a freighter to clear the locks?
Approximately an hour... 20 minutes to enter, another 20 to either be raised or lowered once they are in the chamber and another 20 minutes to exit
Big Bark
Wow!!
I helped build this ship
