Forest Stand Improvement | Importance of Identifying Tree Species

Dr. Craig Harper discusses the importance of being able to identify different tree species before performing forest stand improvement. Having the ability to identify different trees, along with having a goal for that particular timber stand, is key in implementing successful forest stand improvement. Will hackberry resprout as a "mineral stump" if i cut it during the winter?

Anything that you don't treat with herbicide will re sprout. You must cut as many of the growing shoots as you can very close to the ground. If there are lots of shoots, cut them in groups of six or eight. Then, within five minutes at most, use a small brush to paint the cambium layer (or whole shoot if less than 0.5 inches in diameter) with CONCENTRATED Roundup herbicide (not the diluted form sold to spray on leafy vegetation).
