For smaller home gardens, a good tarp supply is your local lumber yard. The tarps they wrap pallets of lumber with end up in the dumpster. Printed with logos and stuff on one side and often black on the other side. The tarp coming off a bundle of 8 foot 2x4 ends up about 10x15 feet. Just ask at the lumber yard and they may let you dumpster dive for a couple of them, for free. Don't worry if your tarp has a few small holes. It'll still do 98% of the work for you. After you pull the tarp just hand dig out those few weeds that grew out the holes.
I had a couple 30x30 blue tarps and I've been using them for 3 years now and they may not be as effective as the black ones you use but they definitely help. So use what you got. They seem fine so far. If I get 5 years without the added expense, it's a win
Your okree fries on your website are so freakin good. Better than fried okra I needed that thank you. The biggest problem I have gardening (as of late) is figuring how to prepare my rewards or even storing them.

I have enjoyed following your channel even though I am north of you in Wrens just under Augusta. It has been so nice to see someone who is gardening in GA and doing it well with great ideas. I have gardened for years but never really had enough of a sunny yard until we have moved here to Wrens. I am hoping to eventually talk my husband into 6- 8'x 8' raised beds in the back yard. After watching so many of your videos with drip irrigation, I put a cheap irrigation set in one of the raised beds today. Nothing like what you have but the idea still started with your videos and is going to make my life easier. Never really had a fall garden either though I grew a few amazing kale plants last year. This year I have shallots (from you and they are doing great), turnips, beets and garlic. Just want you to know that these videos are very much appreciated.
What type of cover crop that would be good for someone who has 1, 5000 sq ft garden spot and do not have a tractor, just a garden tiller. I tried rye and tillage radish and was a little difficult to get rid of. Also, I have sandy soil and have a problem with the wild onions/ wild garlic. I have pulled and pulled and keep multiplying. Any help on either or both issues would be appreciated
I've tried this with great impact on weeds for the last two years with UV resistant 6 mil black tarp, but when I put it out a week ago, it was crumbling due to sun exposure. So, my investment lasted 2 yrs!😅😅 I'm looking for a thicker, heavier silage tarp or sign tarp for longer life!
Hmm. That's odd that it would crumble after two years. I would expect that from a blue camping tarp, but not from something that was supposed to be UV resistant.
Be aware that if you have heavy deer pressure they will destroy a 6 mil tarp. On soft soil their hooves will poke right through it. My 30 X 40 tarp from your former employer survived the summer but was destroyed in one night when the deer became active in fall.
I've got a small ranch garden. A lot of large smart pots on pallets, potatoes and corn have in ground plots. I have Bermuda grass, a rysome, growing in the path ways, into the pots and plots. I put heavy grain bags down with a thick layer of straw, to cover and block the sun, but the damn grass grows under and around.... weed killer didn't phase it....
Whadayathink about leaving the tarp on all winter? I won’t be into the ground until next April up here in southern Alberta. Keep up the great work and keep those sunglasses on, eh!
I think they work well as a soil amendment and provide some nutrition to feed soil biology and plants initially. But likely not enough to supply heavy feeding plants all the nutrition they need.
That pig weed and chick weed is pretty much drought tolerant. It's as dry as Moses's beard here in southeast Alabama but those two weeds are popping up everywhere. If they were good to eat I'm pretty sure you wouldn't starve here in spring, fall and winter. The artic blast didn't kill them so they are some hardy weeds. Show us how your many bunching onions are doing plz.
Called Agri Supply and they told me they do not sell the UV resistant in rolls(for a custom cut) only smaller ones that I would have to buy 20 of them, would there be somewhere else I could try?
Check with any local billboard places. The Agri Supply stores around here usually have them. It's the Warp's brand of tarps and they're usually in a big roll -- 100'x60'.

That works. But I'd still pull it back once a month for a light cultivation and heavy watering.
Will this work to kill vine plants like hops? I cannot get rid of them! This is in Minnesota.
