I can’t help but think, that King Henry’s personality changed to the detriment, after his near death brush at the titling yard, when he was knocked unconscious. Many people who have suffered severe head trauma (car accidents/cycle collisions) have showed signs of character changes. Could this have been the cause of his paranoia of dying without Heirs ?

Frankly if the number does have a source I'd list the power structure of the Roman Catholic system as the #1 suspect. They had the most to gain by slandering Henry.

I've read a few sources state around 70,000. No one can really know for sure as much has been lost on time but it's an educated estimate
