Against axes would be nice to see. I play some Blade and Sorcery, a physics based VR game, and there are a lot of mixed weapon types, would love more insight (i kind of suck at it)to get better at this game, lol.
Excellent lesson, as always. I do love mixed weapon work! I've always thought the longsword has an advantage of speed as well as power in circumstances like this, again because the two-handed grip allows such great leverage. Do you think that's correct?
The speed advantage is rather about length than just leverage. If you are trained well, with proper arming sword you would be fast enough, but it is reach which gives you speed advantage (leverage helps with it, but without bind you don't need to think about it and very long rapier could be as fast as longsword, and leverage doesn't matter unles the blades meet each other).
I love blood and Iron! I gotta check if there’s one near me in California! If I can afford it I’d love to get into Longsword, Sabre, or sword and buckler
Some Sword and Buckler/Shield solo drills and flows would be great trying to get some together for solo practice for my Viking combat group most buckler stuff is a struggle due to the much larger shield with Viking style.
Hi! I would love to learn some more longsword techniques, me and my dad just built a training sword with wood and I was wanting to farther learn the longsword, thanks!
BLOOD and IRON...... I'm torn between the Rapier and the Longsword . Im 6ft 4 at 300 lbs at age 43. Good shape. Good health. What would you recommend and why please?! IM VERY SERIOUS about doing this training for the rest of my life so i want to put all my focus on one or the other . Thank you!!! And Ms. SMITH...love your Thors Hammer pendant. I wear one too💪
Many techniques and principles are the same for many weapons. Look at them, they are using variety of weapons - being focused at just one will limit your understanding of whole concept of armed fighting. I think the longsword is good, coz it is quite versatile weapon, but rapier will push your knowledge further, especially if you choose Mayer as starting source, because it is very cut-centric, which is just half of the whole longsword... rapier will learn you how to use tip well and you will then use it with your longsword too...
The short reach one seems to be that he has to be more skillful than the long reach one (less forgiving on distancing and timing) Armed combat isn’t meant to be fair… a lot of times it’s about just having something the other guy doesn’t
Swords, training partners, bucklers, protective gear, practice space *and* snow, is there anything you guys don't have? Seriously, some people have all the luck.
Thank you! I'd love to see some more sword & buckler play in general.

Generally speaking, the guy with the shorter weapon should close the distance, whereas the one with the longer weapon should keep the distance large.

It was very entertaining ! )
Loving the bare-feet vs slippers
There’s not enough mixed weapon in HEMA
Love your content. Would love to see more sparring vids. It's been a while...

dont underestimate bucklers
you should do some full sparring sessions with mixed weapons
I've read that the Swiss longsword men were paid double that of other soldiers.

I think the demo music is a little too loud.
