  • Beach vlogs here we come! The heat is officially on as the northeast monsoon or “amihan” weakens to start summer! Ooops don’t call it summer per PAGASA as the Philippines only has 2 seasons - the dry season from December to May & rainy season from June to November. The dry season can be further divided into the cold season from December to February & the warm season from March to May. And summer? It’s only used in countries experiencing 4 seasons - winter, spring, autumn & summer. Meanwhile, the easterlies or the warm & humid air from the Pacific Ocean are bringing beaches back to full life.
Enter Laiya in Batangas as one of the most visited beaches in the country. This is our 5th time here across different resorts. Sand here is composed of weathering-formed crushed shells, the white ones fronting Sigayan Bay & the black ones fronting Tayabas Bay. For decades, Laiya has been a favorite among beachgoers from Manila even from neighboring provinces. Coming here is experiencing pleasures with the sand, sky & sea or just soaking up the sun. There’s probably hundreds of hotels & guesthouses here ranging from budget to high-end beachfront resorts.
This leads us to a slice of tropical haven - Porto Laiya. It’s a private beach resort community, around 37 hectares with a gated, 400 meter-long beachfront. Far & away from the noise & commotion of the city, it boasts a privately-held beach club called The Tamarind Cove serving as the centerpiece & the community’s sports & water activities -truly a coastal lifestyle enclave. The Cove has a stunning view of the mountains of Lobo & the majestic Sigayan Bay. Settling down here means perpetual access to the protected reef area offshore which is ideal for swimming & snorkeling.
Tamarind Cove is perfect fit for parties, weddings, team building & other social functions with its spacious pool deck, signature infinity pool, wide-open space & direct access to its white sand beach. However, for a day tour, visitors must be invited to secure an endorsement letter from a lot or homeowner of Porto Laiya. Cottage rentals are available for big & small “kubos” & gazebos. As there’s no restaurant inside, you can bring your own food & there’s an “ihawan” for a fee. But you can order Batangas’ famous “lomi” within the vicinity if you like. There’s no hotel accommodation for an overnight stay though there’s Villa Tobias & Madam Palasyo nearby.
Porto Laiya is a project of Active Group, the developer of the world-class Mount Malarayat Golf & Country Club & Residential Estates. It is located in Barangay Laiya Ibabao, San Juan, Batangas on the southernmost tip of the province along Batangas-Quezon boundary. It’s approximately a 3-hour drive, 143-kilometers away from Makati City. Fastest route is via Ibaan Rosario by SLEX-Star highways. Tourists must pay for an Ecological Fee of PhP20 per person at the Municipal Tourism Office along Laiya Road after La Vista Subdivision in Barangay Buhay na Sapa.
