I absolutely agree!! Developing networks in person is way better than applying for a buch of jobs like a machine gun. Unfortunately, Slack for Tech in Sydney is very quiet. So, I think early career is better, in particular, in Sydney.
Hey Samanvay! Really great video, and I resonate strongly with #4. It's my go-to for establishing new connections. Quick question - I was able to connect with lots of people using #4 in my grad job search, but I was not really able to cultivate these relationships into something more in the long-term. Most of the time we'd go for a quick 30 minute "mentoring" chat, and then we don't chat much anymore. Do you have any advice for cultivating relationships with people you've done an initial chat/connection with via LinkedIn? Hope you're doing well!
That's a great question, Andrew! My suggestion would be that you should pick and choose the relationships you should cultivate. Ideally you should only cultivate those where there is a true potential for friendship. It's just like making friends. You can force anyone to network and have a great relationship with you long term. Another thing is to make sure you help them out in some way. This is something I'm still trying to master.
