    Just wanted to say that your video was easy to follow and very well explained. You didn't rush into the content and took you time to properly explain each element, just too bad that we do not install alarms everyday, however I would recommend this video. A+

    Great video! Next time when you crimp the b connector use the flat surface directly behind the diagonal cutters where the handles come together that why it’s there. Learned this from an old Bell telephone guy.

      Good tip. Most side cutters have that crimp area behind, the ones I'm using don't have them is all. Kyle.

    at 13:22, know that a "short" is an unintended contact between two conductors or to ground. You are referring to an "open" which is an untended cutting or separation of the conductor.

    Good video, it coverd most items, what i would like to know is when you add additional pir detectors to an existing loop, do you just wire from the last pir detector 12v earth, N and NC? Do you then have to reprogram the keypad.? I have an old DSC power 864 system.

I put in a new pc board, rewired it exactly as the old one. Still not booting up. Relays ok. Power supply ok. New keypad too. Exactly same as the old one. What have i missed. Please help. Tnx.

    Great video and very informative. I have a question because I plan to install this system in my house.
    If I get the whole system installed myself, up and running, what's the next steps to get it monitored? Do I need some kind of communicator? Or do I just call a monitoring company? Please explain. Thank you!

    • @WillOnSomething
      @WillOnSomething 3 роки тому

      You would need either an analog (POTS) phone line, or a cellular communicator that goes in place of a phone line. It's likely that the monitoring company will provide their own communicator if you decide to go the cellular route. Not 100% sure though as i'm also a DIYer and doing research on installing this system in my house as well. My employer recently closed an office and for some reason, they removed the alarm system and sent it back to HQ, even though we have *no* use for it, lol.

    I thought resisters went across the zone wire not just the one? I know fire alarm zones at the end of pull stations or the last one on a zone requires a resistor across the wires. Here it’s only one wire so I’m not really understanding how the panel is seeing a constant resistance to understand if it’s a tamp or, a short

    I have a DSC1550, the transformer power adapter gets very warm, (turned brown after time). So casually looking at the circuit board, I see a full rectifier in the power section, thinking that the unit can function using a DC adapter. Connecting a variable DC supply set to proper battery charging voltage (13.8vdc), I get a trouble light on the control panel. I wonder why?

  • @Brandi-U

    I have a quick question about the wiring. We have fully removed this box so it is no longer plugged in and the battery is removed.We no longer use the system. I assume these wires are not HOT or have any power to them at all if they are not plugged in at the box like you are working on in this video. Is that correct? I want to cut some of the wires in my attic and just want to make sure it is safe since we disconnected the panel box and power and battery etc.

    Question: I have a DSC Power 832 PC5010 and its showing "Communication Trouble light/alert" It used to be monitored via landline and cellular module; these are no longer working (not monitored). I now have an internet card (hub6) in place, but frequently get Communication Trouble alerts. What do you recommend to deal with the Communication Trouble?

    • @SecuredSurrounding
      @SecuredSurrounding  4 роки тому

      Hey there, you'll have to turn TLM(Telephone line Monitoring) off in programming. On those panels, I believe it's in section 015. That should take care of the issue. You may have to disable communications in general though, but not sure if that will affect your internet module as I haven't installed that type. I believe section 301 on those panels. Then power cycle the system and it should clear the trouble. Good luck, Kyle.

    • @SecuredSurrounding
      @SecuredSurrounding  5 років тому +2

      Thanks Robert. You can null out the zone or simply disable it in programming. Or if you didn't want to get into programming, you could put a resistor across the zone at the panel, telling the panel the circuit is closed. More info at Secured Surrounding if you want it. Kyle.

    • @robertstaff
      @robertstaff 5 років тому

      Secured Surrounding thank you. Would you know the key sequence to null the zone on a 1616 keypad?
      Cant seem to find it anywhere.

    • @SecuredSurrounding
      @SecuredSurrounding  5 років тому +2

      @@robertstaff Easiest way would be to just disable that zone for the time being. Get into to programming using "Star - 8 - installer code" then "202" then disable the zone you want between 1-8 by pressing that number. You should see it disappear on the keypad. For zones 9-16, use 203 instead of 202. Then hit "#" three times to get back to your home screen and you're done. Good luck, Kyle.

      @mapleridgebc Рік тому +1

    I have an old DSC PC2550 and my garage walk through door shows as trouble, it does not beep when the door is open, meaning the switch is open. I check the switch and it opens and closes. My question is shouldn't I be able to jump the terminals at the board and simulate opening and closing the garage door? I tried that but nothing. I first jumped the wires at the door switch and nothing. I checked the wiring in the attic as far as I could and did not see an issue. I checked the switch and it checks out OK. I'm lost! Any suggestions?

    Hello there,
    Sorry for bothering you, but do you know what someone can do if the system is in alarm? We have an old battery so it flashed system trouble for low battery, but it also says that it is in alarm and I cannot view the system trouble and dismiss it for the alarm sound to go off. The system currently is not armed, so its just the battery that's making the problem. The problem occurred after the main electricity got shutdown .

    Hi, I’m trying to fix an old system I have. It’s a moose Z900st keypad. The system has been unplugged for 8 years at my great grams house which now we rent out. The renters left in July and now we are doing a lot of renovations at the house. I for the time being went out and bought a SimpliSafe wireless system just to know that it’s safe to go in the house and that no one has broken in while I was gone. But I’d love to fix the moose system that’s there. None of my zones work at all on the moose. The keypad is now failing too so I’m replacing the keypad with another one that I have for a moose z1100. Would this video help with that type of older system? All the components look the same and same colored wiring too.

    Wrong, the resistors are not just for troubleshooting! They are there in case someone shorts out the zone if its NC. The panel has to see the resistor, and if it doesn't an alarm is triggered. The way you did it by the panel is incorrect. Offers no protection.

    • @SecuredSurrounding
      @SecuredSurrounding  5 років тому +2

      I didn't say they were just for troubleshooting. At 13:20 I say "using these resistors would be able to tell you whether its a device issue, or if there's a short in your cable somewhere". Thanks for the comment.
