Where did he hear that everyone doesn’t like the bar scene? Everyone I know and hear has said that they LOVE that scene and so do I! It’s especially one of the best scenes of the film for like Channel Pup said it captures Sonic and all of the fun so dang fantastically!
I'd heard a few UA-camrs, REALLY GOOD UA-camrs didn't like the scene because it stopped the pace of the film for some slapstick that didn't necessarily need to be in there, and to be fair, you COULD cut both that and Robotnik's dance scene out but I think they say some stuff about the characters and are enjoyable scenes so I'm glad they're still in there.
I personally really liked this movie. It provides a a new and unique take on Sonic's characterisation, while simultaneously providing TONS of references and easter eggs to the original games. Really, i love movie Sonic's character. He's curious, sensitive to loneliness, has jealous tendencies, loves to stay moving, mischievous. But that's just my opinion.
I love Jim Carrey as Robotnik, he was really cool. Also we get a little bit of backstory for him. He is an orphan who's not letting anyone in. I find that really interesting And that his goal to capture sonic is becoming everything to him so he slowly loses his sanity but still remains extremely intelligent. And I really love the friendship Tom and Sonic have
The Question: How does this Movie exist? Answer: When a couple oppose the idea of an unnecessary additional partner and one of the partner's parent's stubborn thoughts about their child. Basically, a passionate crew and a passionate fan come together with love and not welcome agenda and oppose a company in order to get a better redesign, a movie like this is welcome to the world.
I agree, I don’t know why people are saying they expected much more ingame references, because even in the trailers that stuff took a backseat to the real world stuff. It’s a simple kids film and the format worked, so all the hate from that regard is completely unjustified. It’s good, deal with it
Plus I was pleasantly surprised by the number of pop culture references in this film, felt like it was paying a bit of homage to the generation I grew up in and the current one. (Star Wars, Men in Black, Fast and Furious, Fortnite etc.)
There were a lot of references in there, I think purely classic Sonic but considering Sonic's design has more in common with his modern look, talks, etc, it's an even trade off.
I liked the moment when crazy Carl came with a chainsaw like Doom Slayer. That got me. And I was also surprised that it had almost no cringy moments. Sonic's character is like a kid which is in a process of growing and I will be there to see his character grow into my favourite game character of all time. Robotnik was brilliantly played by Jim Carrey and he made Robotnik his own character. He was just missing his theme song from adventure 2, and if that was played when he was analysing Sonic's quill, then even 10/10 would have been quite a low score.

Jim Carry was playing Archie Robotnik, and I loved it. There was a LOT of moments in there that screamed Archie comics. Sonic has been officially aged in this movie as being 13 or 14 by Jeff Fowler. So he gets to Floss as much as he wants. Me personally being an old fart and not knowing much about Fortnight, just thought it was a cute little victory dance and I personally thought it was adorable.
Actually this works really well for a film Series and something I hope they do. Depending on how many movies they plan on making with Sonic I can see them slowly age him and become more mature as the films go on. So by the time we get to the final Sonic film he'll be between to ages 18 or 19; just on the verge of adulthood. We'll get to see him grow in the process both physically and mentally. I also like how Longclaw reminds me a bit of Harvey Who from the Archie comic. I wonder if that was a subtle node.
@@MaryC861 I had actually thought that too, they made her based on the owl faces carved into the blocks in the mystic ruins in the game you see one in the bottom left corner on the first frame of the trailer. and supposedly in the novelization they expand on the prologue and tell how she's the last of an ancient race of warriors, which i really wanna hear more about. I hope now that they'll undoubtedly have a bigger budget for the sequel that part of it will be them going back and filling out the lore more of Sonic's world and his past. I do want him to stay with Tom and Maddie in the end as I love them. But i defiantly want there to be more of Sonic's world and past involved. including the missing scenes of right after he came to earth and how he adapted.

Well, the movie has been in the cinema for over two weeks now so we don't have to be as harsh with spoiler warnings. In addition, the film follows the natural cycle of cinema: The first few days there is a strong influx of cinema visitors, and then to stabilize at a lower level. Sonic managed to stay over 10 million dollars a day longer than Pikacu. Now it remains to be seen how this movie series will evolve.
They pretty much got Sonic and Robotnik spot on as far as character personality goes. Good origin movie for those two, especially in the context of Sonic Adventure games with their contemporary Earth settings. I can see how Sonic becomes a hero who will try and keep saving the world time and time by the end of the movie (as opposed to just running away as directed), and how Robotnik has become a crazy unhinged villain that hates everyone and conquer the world again and again while harness super magical energies to help him do it. I never thought I would ever say this but for once I liked a contemporary human character (Tom) in a Sonic story. Was never a fan of Chris from Sonic X or Elise from Sonic 06.

In my honest opinion: This movie was the greatest thing I’ve enjoyed movie sonic, I mean they way the got Sonic’s personality down was perfect and Jim Cary makes the perfect eggman and the human interactions in this movie were actually interesting to watch and the comedy was hilarious and the action was just awesome. The characters where all flushed out perfect and over all I pretty hyped for the sequel. But I did cringe at some moments but overall it’s really good
I never cared about Sonic, never even played any of its games, and yes I knew about it. But the movie and characters were so good I wanna watch it again, and I’m actually looking forward to the sequels! What I liked about it was the relationship with James Marsden’s cop counterpart. They had chemistry. And I actually liked Sonic, also he had a very satisfying arc. A lonely and traumatized being that gets a loving family at the end. Archetypal, sure, but well told. Even compared to other kids movies this is definitely one of the better ones. Also I think the need of connection theme of the movie reached a personal level to me and many others. Even surrounded by people, we sometimes feel lonely. A deeper connection is needed. Best friends. The fact that the director and studio improved the character CGI to cater to fans is awesome and should be definitely commended! But you know what? Forget "you HAVE to see this movie if you liked XYZ", it's a good movie. See it. Have a good time! It's worth it.

I was as well, but I get why they did it. The best looking scenes were in the end, and they needed to win the crowd back. Doesn't really excuse it, but I get why. My hope is now that they have the crowd on their side, the sequel's trailed will spoil nothing.

SONIC THEORY: I think that in the second sequel sanic hegehog will be the main villain. I think that crazy carl wasn't just being a trashy artist, but he drew an exact replica of sanic and now sanic is going after sonic.
12:30 While definitely X-Men inspired in terms of cinematography, its also also has parralels from Chaos Control from Sonic Adventure 2 except its a latent Sonic power now as opposed to something that required a Chaos Emerald. It also cannot be used to teleport spatially like CC but does allow you to zip through time in what you can already travel normally. Basically like SA2B multiplayer where Chaos Control stops time but nit allow you to "cheat" spatially. I feel like the scene that shows this the most is the part where Robot ik presses the button a and harness the Quill energy as he also gets the ability.
I know Imma catch hell for this, but I noticed at the end of the movie that the reflection of Sonic in Eggman’s googles looked a little like Mephiles. I know it might be a reach but it just reminded of ‘06.

unlike Roger Rabbit or Space Jam, Sonic, Smurfs, and Garfield aren't ABOUT animated characters coming to our world. They're about things from our world (or, in sonic's case, another planet). They're just things that don't exist in reality so they are created through CGI for the film. Sonic is essentially an alien, the Smurfs just traveled through time in the movies, and Garfield is just a cat. Calling them animated characters in the context of the movie is like saying Yoda is a cartoon that appeared in the Star Wars world.

I think robotnik is going to find a ring and go to sonics original planet and start capturing animals and I think that's when tails comes to get Sonic bagplus it can help given origin 2 knuckles being the only one of his clan
I would have preferred for Sonic to do what he does at the end of stages in the games instead. Something about the dance just seemed really out of character for him to me.
I think the second, or maybe even third film will end with Sonic, Robotnik and all the other familiar characters going back to Sonic's world and it'll be bittersweet, and that will justify this whole "OUR WORLD" thing.

I was disappointed when i realised in the middle of the movie that the first trailer spoiled the ending.
I was as well, but I get why they did it. The best looking scenes were in the end, and they needed to win the crowd back. Doesn't really excuse it, but I get why.
My hope is now that they have the crowd on their side, the sequel's trailed will spoil nothing.

12:30 While definitely X-Men inspired in terms of cinematography, its also also has parralels from Chaos Control from Sonic Adventure 2 except its a latent Sonic power now as opposed to something that required a Chaos Emerald.
It also cannot be used to teleport spatially like CC but does allow you to zip through time in what you can already travel normally. Basically like SA2B multiplayer where Chaos Control stops time but nit allow you to "cheat" spatially.
I feel like the scene that shows this the most is the part where Robot ik presses the button a and harness the Quill energy as he also gets the ability.

I know Imma catch hell for this, but I noticed at the end of the movie that the reflection of Sonic in Eggman’s googles looked a little like Mephiles. I know it might be a reach but it just reminded of ‘06.
Same, besides from the red eyes, it looks very identical. And don't be afraid to mention anything from 06. Mephiles is a pretty good villain.

How does the Sonic movie exist?
People worked on it because money and Detective Pikachu did well and money.
Sonic had been confirmed to have a movie way before pokemon.
unlike Roger Rabbit or Space Jam, Sonic, Smurfs, and Garfield aren't ABOUT animated characters coming to our world. They're about things from our world (or, in sonic's case, another planet). They're just things that don't exist in reality so they are created through CGI for the film. Sonic is essentially an alien, the Smurfs just traveled through time in the movies, and Garfield is just a cat.
Calling them animated characters in the context of the movie is like saying Yoda is a cartoon that appeared in the Star Wars world.

The Flash tv series on The CW also did Bullet Time, but they called it FlashTime.
I honestly believed that Agent Stone to be this Snively type character the one from The SATam version, although lacking the characteristics of Snively, but I dunno why I thought that, I just did.
I think robotnik is going to find a ring and go to sonics original planet and start capturing animals and I think that's when tails comes to get Sonic bagplus it can help given origin 2 knuckles being the only one of his clan

I would have preferred for Sonic to do what he does at the end of stages in the games instead. Something about the dance just seemed really out of character for him to me.
I think the second, or maybe even third film will end with Sonic, Robotnik and all the other familiar characters going back to Sonic's world and it'll be bittersweet, and that will justify this whole "OUR WORLD" thing.

both a buddy film
Both have a road trip
both have a villain want to mess with the main character
both features brightly colored furry
differences:
Sonic did better chemistry, Lino finds the magician annoying until plot progress
Sonic is an alien (exotic) hedgehog, Lino becomes a generic cat
Sonic is funny as heck, Lino is bland as plain flavorless yogurt/ rice
Sonic has cultural reference, Lino has no culture (not even Brazilian)
Sonic sidekick has good taste, Lino's buddy is magic school drop out
Sonic has echidnas acting like Ugandan Knuckles, Lino has Indians being arcade addicts
Wachowski. I'm betting this is a nod to the Wachowski....siblings, of Matrix fame which pioneered slow-mo for the action genre, which this film does quite well.
