    You can use whiteboard markers on glass…. Patio doors and windows can come in handy when you can’t find anything else.

    Another great video from the two of you. What I enjoy about your videos is that they're very centered/calming.

    How do you decide on a Country? How far in advance do you plan.

      Hi! Such a good question! in a nutshell: cost, convenience (getting there), community, curiosity.
      We try to plan one to 4 months in advance and keep it a bit looser beyond that. There seems to always be something that changes our plans.

    Really well-rounded information, thank you! You answered a question I had around whether you also have ACA plans. Curious if you had compared the ACA plan vs an international insurance plan like Cigna Global? We were leaning on trying that first, premiums seem similar (we're in our late 30s). Also, do you guys have a preference for how long you like to be abroad vs back home every year? I thought 4 months abroad, 2 months home visiting family/friends, then repeat could help us avoid burnout.

      I have to say we haven't compared the ACA plans with international insurance. The ACA michelle has only provides coverage in our home state so for international we are currently relying on travel medical insurance or just paying out of pocket (depending on the country).
      As for how long we like to be abroad each year... well, we keep trying to go for 1 year straight but keep having to go back for a couple of months or longer (last year) due to personal issues. It is a topic we discuss a lot personally. I could see going for 6 abroad 2-3 home at a time or longer. It keeps changing for us, maybe we will eventually figure it out. 😊😊Joel

      @@TheWanderingHartz I appreciate your reply, Joel! Got it re: health insurance. ACA has some interesting rules to qualify for the subsidies (can't be too high or too low), so we figured we'd try Cigna Global first but good to know ACA works for Michelle. We'll have to read the fine print on both though (so fun lol). And agreed, 1 year abroad would be a good challenge! What's fun about your journey is that it's flexible, you can work from anywhere :) Funny enough, I am a Spanish citizen and I thought it'd be so easy for my US citizen husband to stay in Europe over 90 days (of 180) with me. However, I'm finding the EU either limits non-Schengen citizens with the 90-180 rule OR allows my husband to become a resident of an EU country. I don't want us to become EU residents because tax treatment is so much nicer in the US with capital gains low taxes, so we're trying to see how limited our travel will be. Apparently the EU doesn't understand slow travel or consider that spouses of EU citizens would want to stay over 90 days at a time without becoming official residents LOL. We'll probably hire an EU lawyer and see if we can figure this out. Anyways, thanks!

      There are options to move about Europe from Schengen to non-Schengen countries while slow traveling. This way your husband won't have to worry about exceeding the 90/180 rule. We have a video about this, I think it is from a month or two ago. You would both be subject to the same 90 days rule in the non-schengen. Like Croatia - montenegro - Italy - Albania - Greece - Bulgaria, that would be 90 in each for one year.

      Thanks Joel for the reply. Yep I’m familiar with the method of combining Schengen vs non Schengen countries. Because I am an EU citizen, I do not have those limitations. I’m going to speak with an immigration lawyer in Spain to see what’s possible for my husband, considering we want to remain US residents for tax treatment. Worst case we’ll both respect the 90-180 rule. With more and more countries joining the Schengen, it’s just becoming a bit more challenging but there are certainly still options and the Middle East, North Africa. Best!

    Any issues getting ACA healthcare if you are not present in the US for most of the year?

    • @TheWanderingHartz
      @TheWanderingHartz  4 місяці тому

      We have not experienced issues... yet. However we can not utilize the healthcare while out of our home state unfortunately. We have to plan visits for when we know we will be back in the U.S.
      Thanks for sharing 😎

      We don't I'm afraid. We will be making our way to Asia later this year, but probably from the west coast now.
