Folks, I feel pretty torn because in the wake of Helene, the loss of my car seems incredibly trivial, and I debated whether to remove that section altogether, but it set the scene for so much of the next month's videos that it was quite confusing to remove it, and ultimately I decided to leave it in and just ask for your understanding.

It's real life. Don't feel guilty. Sorry to hear about your car.
Since I've been ill my friends often say things like "oh I shouldn't complain, I have only a cold", but other people having a hard/harder time doesn't make your problems any less, and not talking about your problems doesn't make theirs less. Of course it's super hard not to have a car if you don't have the ready cash to get a new one AND you're trying to renovate a house! I'm glad you're sharing the real story with us and not a glittery Instagram version of it.
oh dear!😮that’s why i got a new car 🚗 because I can’t afford to rebuild a whole car 🚘 from the ground up! we’re all cheering 📣 for you on youtube 🙏❤️🩹🤠☠️🎃👻👍🏻🍀👻🚗🚘🧘🏼♀️
❤❤❤
I have mayor respect for your thoughts. Maybe you can search out smaller not giant conglomerate corporation charities and make a video about their efforts and link their info for donations. Publicity for the boots on the ground citizens that know how to make a diffrence is more important than anything.
We must have more moments of leaving Phil alone with the camera! 🤣
Once a circus performer, always a circus performer 😂
I soooo agree!
Excellent vacuuming skills😂
Best Phil scenes yet. He is becoming more comfortable with camera. Already a performer, now creating his own episodes. I am here for the storyline.
Im surprise his pants didnt tear after that split he did.... funny though.
You handled your car set-back with grace and humor. No point in comparing one's trials with someone else's, there is always someone who is enduring a tragedy worse than self's.
Loved Phil's vacuum dance! Few things can match the attractiveness of a man doing housework.
It's so interesting to watch Phil getting more and more comfortable with filming. Love his vacuum-routine! ❤😂 You two are wonderful!
Wow! just loved Phil's cleaning dance routine!! I laughed so much and then had to go show my hubby!
It might be worth looking at a small van rather than a car. I renovated 7 houses and bought a second hand Mercedes Vito van. It's great. So much easier to carry everything. You can put a tow bar on too.
We have one, too. I can even manage to sleep in it.👌
agreed. considering how integral your vehicle will be to the house repairs, it's worth considering❤
Yeah something thats good for load stuff in as well. Then less need of trailer or anything like that as well
The problem with a van is that it will tend to get much worse mileage than a smaller car, which is a problem when you're driving across Canada several times a year. A trailer that you can attach or remove at will is a lot more versatile in that respect.
am i the only one that had "i want to break free" playing in my head with Phil's little impromptu routine? (people going 'huh'? might want to refer to the original video for it...). More sass please Phil, it's lovely to see! Hope the new (to you) car, whatever it is, is running better and things get better for you soon!! xx
Omg YES
That's what I was going to say! 😂
Doggo is helping..... Obviously a stick detector 😂😊
I love how Phil is so Sassy. and the vacuum scene...Hilarious!
He's pretty much a famous vacuumer now.
Phil's Vacuuming Shenanigans were delightful
"Are you gonna make yourself useful?"
Canelle: "Stickstickstickstickstickstickstickstickstickstick...."
She's such a sweetie!
Phil needs his own channel. He could vacuum, dust, sweep, mop, etc. With his moves and your editing it would be really popular!
Phil making Shannon laugh with the pipe bundle thing was super cute.❤❤
Phil's dance routine was hilarious 10/10 crying with laughter!
Kudos to you. You kept saying what a crappy day you were having and explaining all this hideous stuff that was happening to you, but you actually never seemed upset and only showed us a happy face. You are a true professional.
Phil's split though!
In jeans, yet!
Every time I say, "Not my circus, not my monkeys," which I do frequently because I have a giant, fairly gossipy, family, I think of you and Phil. Because you're the first people I've virtually met who *actually* ran away with the circus. I'm so much more grounded in the metaphor now. So thanks!
OMG Phil's vacuuming scene was hilarious. Geez I cant even do a split. Never seen that part of him before...
lol, I was thinking about commenting that I like Phil’s sense of humor then you left him alone to vacuum. He had me busting out laughing. Definite Risky Business vibes.
I like the way Phil vacuum’s. The two of you are so entertaining .
Shannon and Phil, your resilience is AMAZING ! I would have thrown in the towel long ago ...but I am truly in awe of your problem-solving skills, your back-breaking work, and your fierce determination to create what will be the most beautiful and accomplished home ever !
May you two not need to be this resilient for many, many years to come.
Splits in jeans. I can't even touch my toes in jeans. So jealous
😂😂😂
I can't touch my toes butt-naked!
We had a tree company come out and trim up our 2 extremely tall Sycamore trees to the tune of $800.00. So you got a great price.
I agree. That was an AWESOME price!! Maybe you can have them come back when you are doing better financially and take teh rest of teh tree down as it is bound to hit your house in some storm, later.
You two are an absolute delight! I smile whenever I see new content from another trashed home renovator, Corgi owner, quilter, knitter, reader, etc (tho never was I graceful… ). Anyway we love your attitudes as you share your lives with us all!
Phil had me laughing soooo hard!!!! He really needs to show us his crazy whacky side more often!! 🤣💖🤣💖
The footage of phil with the vacuum really supercharged my day. when he did the splits, it was a real showstopper!!! Thank you!
Hi plant nerd here! It looks that plant your pulling up looks like a species of coltsfoot, it's a medicinal plant brought over from Europe and actually is used for tea and cough drop, if you do use them though it good to double check with a plant app just in case ( they should have a flower similar to a dandelion that bloom in the spring )
I wouldn’t use coltsfoot though, because it can cause liver damage.
@dottiewi661 ya I look that up but both of those cases were link to miss identification of the plant as ther is 2 similar species but have very different flower, which is why it's best to do research before eating anything, the info I found on the cases was on the wiki page for Tussilago farfara which it's formal name
Yes to the coltsfoot ID (not an expert but that was my guess, esp looking at the roots)
But
Do not eat ANYTHING that's growing around your foundation until you do a soil test. An old house like that, you wanna be sure lead paint dust hasn't been gradually sifting into the soil. 👍
Also, if it's coltsfoot, sure you can "pull" the plants, but I think it spreads via rhizomes in the soil, so you won't have eliminated it with the first round of pulling. Just keep at it - you'll exhaust the rhizomes' energy reserves eventually once you can keep on top of it...
(uh, not sure how often you'll be absent for months at a time...)
Time for a third channel: Phil's Side Show, featuring the best ways to clean things! Shannon's such a motivating gal, she encouraged me to begin English paper piecing and I love it! You both are such a comfort in this crazy world.
Ahhhhh Phil. !!!! That was crazy, funny, and impressive! Don’t think I don’t notice how much stretching, strength training, and aerobics you two acrobats put into your everyday work! I’m glad you had a professional take down that beast of a limb on that tree, I think it was the best thing to do too! By the way I loooove the mantle makeover for the season, so pretty! What a beautiful mirror that is! Best of luck on the vehicle hunt!
You two are amazing! So much stress and yet can still smile and be playful.
Phil is such a delight. I'm glad you have him in your life and that we get to see him in these videos. :)
You get more done in one of your "slow start to the day" days, than I get done in a week. You could be a lot easier on yourself, kid. I admire your tenacity, energy, and determination.
I second this emotion xxx
I have to admit I love his way of vacuuming. You two are great together. I love watching you both put so much energy into your new place. All with a smile.
That snow shovel as a dustpan moment is so relatable.
I'm _that_ neighbour whose yard faces the prevailing winds and can't bring herself to get rid of the metre-wide border of milkweed plants. I've tried transplanting them to the side of the yard, but that didn't work. Every time I see a monarch butterfly I tell myself it's justified, but I haven't seen any cocoons yet.
Now watching Phil vacuuming was so much fun. He has a great sense of humour. The glass in the front doors and windows are beautiful with the decoration. Love your mantelpiece arrangement.
It's sad when a car dies 😢 and a major headache getting a new one.
The Halloween decor looked very cozy 😊
Phil's cleaning performance is an absolute delight and a nice antidote to all the automotive grimness. 😊
Lovely shots of Phil and the vacuümcleaner😂
Love the mantle. The mirror is so beautiful that could easily stay there forever. Thank you for sharing your story.
You definitely need another car. Congrats on your trailer achievement!!! Great job on the clean up!!!
Just so you know, I would totally hire Phil to vacuum my house! 😆😂 He is adorable!
Loved🤣 Phil dancing with the vacuum. Thank you for the chuckle
Laughing out loud at Phil hamming it up...bravo!! Laughing in the midst of a crappy situation; sorry about the car issues!!
The "Devil's Rhubarb" is "Coltsfoot", another invasive, but not nearly as bad as the Knotweed. Its yellow flowers look like a cross between a bachelor button and a dandelion. Don't let it fool you though, just pull it out.
I looked up devil's rhubarb because the name is funny. Seems to be a name for the common butterbur, also known as bog rhubarb. It usually grows in surprise: bogs. It probably loves the ground around your house because all the rain gathers there.
And I’m 99% sure it’s edible, too.
Shannon, I'm so sorry your car died but I will say that I think you both did the best you could before making any final decisions on the car and that's doing housework and gardening. I've always found gardening, weeding and outdoor work around my house to be very therapeutic for my peace of mind.
Phil and the vacuum scene…..so funny! 😂
My favorite season is fall. Most comfortable in a sweater than a swimsuit. The mantle looks great!
You and Phil work so well together. Your channel is a must see , all the time. Good luck with all your endeavour's x
I love Phil. The vacuuming dance is gold.
Wow that hard wood flooring is gold! Lots of money in those bundles of wood! Phil’s vacuum dance was fabulous! Thanks.
That tree was a danger to your home! One less thing to worry about! Yikes burrdock on the microphone and in the hair!!! Zero fun!!
This video, sad as the broken down car is, had me smiling from beginning to end. You guys are such fun to watch. And seeing a young couple dive in to such huge projects gives me hope and joy. Well done everyone kids!
The whole scene with Phil vacuuming is gold! 😂
i'm so sorry, for your broken car. hope you got quick a new one. phils dance was great 👍
I started watching you maybe 2 years ago. Mainly sewing content and the occasional mention of some guy you lived with. Phil is such a funny addition.
❤❤Everyone needs a Phil!!!❤❤
Ugh! We pay typically $1200.00 for tree removal and some quotes in the multi-thousands. 😭.
And you don't need to apologize for what you do that comes from your heart! Keep up with your videos 😊
Small town neighbors are wonderful!
Love seeing Phil dancing with the vacum ❤
I could see Phil’s vacuuming videos becoming a YT staple 😂 that was delightful!
I’m so sorry any the car situation, but glad you’re all safe and okay. Also congratulations on ko-fi! That’s exciting news even in the light of everything else.
Question: are there lemon laws in Canada? If so, how do those work?
ETA: I’ve already watched the hourlong cleaning video on the other channel, so I think that I thought this case that died was the new new one. From the end of the video, I’m pretty sure that isn’t the case, but my question about lemon laws stands. Hope the next vehicle is a better bet!
Phil throwin' down the hot sauce with that vacuum! Damn, you're a lucky girl! 🔥🤣
I really like Phil’s method of vacuuming. I have a similar method when I make my bed and do laundry. LOL
Really enjoyed this video 🫶Phil is awesome ☮️🇨🇦💜
You are the "Can Do Couple" of the century!
zomg, I absolutely shrieked when I saw that split during vacuuming 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I work with tow companies. The price for the time of day, distance and you found someone on a Sunday. I would say totally worth it. ❤
Wow... what an adventure this video was. Not going to lie, I cackled when you squealed when Phil was removing the burrs from your hair! I'll try to walk off a broken leg, but little things like a splinter and I squeal, too. That's what it reminded me of.
When you said “Dayzaster” I realized we have the same wit but you are so much more advanced 😆
Phil and the vacuum, oh Lordy! Learned some new moves today.
Do not know what your relationship with Phil is but he is a keeper!!!! So cute and funny besides being a hard worker....He is a doll!!!!
We've had the Matrix, ran it over 300,000 miles. We have the Vibe too, I think it's a 2003, love it. I can haul so much in it, it's fairly comfortable and great on gas and maintenance. My hubs is a mechanic so we do it all ourselves.
You thrive in utter madness of life keep well and my dear there is never enough phil😊
Recognized Alberta. Right above North Dakota. Glad you can get Factor.
Always happy to see more of Phil, and you. Phil with a vacuum is particularly delightful.
I too want a native species garden. Fortunately there several already growing on our property in the Ottawa area. My favourite is the lovely columbine flower and the most surprising is the broadleaf plantain. It is a source of psyllium fibre, used in products like Metamucil. The entire plant is edible.
I wish you all the best in your search for another vehicle. We've owned used ones most of our lives.
Hi! Your decorating skills are spot on!❤❤❤
I was going to say the same thing. And I, too, LOVE Fall (or Autumn if you're Bougie!)
Yes, to cosy fall vibes and Phil's vacuum dance!
You two realy are the best team. Good luck with everything ❤
Had an unwelcome surprise too. Wife calls me when she gets to work saying she lost all power in her car. Probably alternator but she's well over 200k miles so not really worth fixing. Sigh. Wanted another year out of the car without issues.
Just replace the alternator--you might get another 100,00 miles out of it. You'll always regret it if you find out the person who buys it from you cheaply, gets another 150,000 miles out of it!
An alternator is generally worth fixing! I’ve swapped out 3 and I am no mechanic. Lucky person who gets your car next!
@@goodandgreen not when a car is well on its way to 300k miles with about 15 other things wrong, and requires removing the bumper to remove the alternator.
Well, that was more entertaining than I expected from the title!
Close to hysteria due to exhaustion if you're anything like me
Omg Phil is the most magestic creature, a worthy adversary of corgi content !😂❤
Oh that terrible time when you have to decide between repair and purchase at my age I have done it several times and it is never easy. Love Phil’s vacuuming dance ! Makes vacuuming so much more fun. I think you have done an amazing job and in the end it’s the unexpected challenging that are the spice to a future story. hang tight! 😊
Phil’s got some great moves vacuuming. 😁
That goldenrod, tall yellow flowers, out front is good for plant dyeing.
In Sweden they are called Kanadensiskt Gullris and are considered an invasive species.
Bless Phil for being able to make you laugh. Keep the faith and believe things will work out okay. We will be sending positive vibes. David
Your editing of the piano music with Phil's vacuum splits is perfection!! 11:05
Oh my goodness! I'm exhausted just thinking about it all. But from watching you, I'd bet you'll not only manage but make good choices too. By the way, the suffering of all impacted by Helene does not diminish your own concerns. You have the right to worry about your own life while still concerned for others. Here's hoping for good results in both locations.
If vacuuming looked like that at my house it would happen much more often! Our robot vacuum is not nearly as entertaining. 😁
Love the autumn decor and the way you work together, reminiscent of Thomas and me. We also manage to have fun in the worst of circumstances. 🧡
So sorry about your car; auto challenges are frustrating. I hope you’re able to resolve it quickly, economically and efficiently. Sending every positive thought and good vibe I can muster.
I need to up my vacuuming technique. So thanks! But also, I'm so sorry to hear about your car. It does limit things not having access to transport. And breaking down like that is a nightmare!
I was all stressed out about your car woes until you left the camera with Phil. Content I didn't know I needed. Here's the thing, Shannon, this care stuff is stressful, partially because change is hard and partially because it's always a money stress-- but one day the money will be easier.... you're headed in the right direction.
"courage" with the car situation!
I got distracted by your squirrel mug. It looks so cute 😊
Great episode. Loved Phil’s vacuum routine! 😂
I love fall too!
I had to go back and see his dance a few times. So much joy!
I feel very lucky as I currently own a 2004 Toyota Matrix and have never had any trouble with it other than routine maintenance. When I eventually get around to having to replace it, I would like something just a tad bit bigger, maybe a RAV4, but I have been very happy with my Matrix all these years. Good luck finding a better model this time!😊
Phil: it's loosey goosey
Me: 😂
Gosh, I got exhausted just watching you guys work. Kudos ❤ to a labor of love
I love love love the seating area upgrade!! Yay!!
