Fist of all, I LOVE your images. I follow you on Flickr and instagram. Second, as a hobbyist who is supposed to save money for a mortgage, I made the mistake of looking at all the new mirrorless Nikons coming out (I have a z6ii). But then I listened to you talk about things like focus stacking, which I never learned to do, and I think I need to learn more before I spend more! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

TOP!

Despite having newer better bodies, I still shoot my Sony a7ii with the cheap 50mm f1.8 a lot! I like the combo and the images it produces.😊

Worth remembering that great, iconic images were made with much more primitive equipment than is available today. For example, I use Canon gear and still use my old 6D from time to time and have to say I'm still very happy with the quality it produces...almost on a par with my 5Div. It's more about experience and vision than the gear. Great video anyway. Cheers

Great video, thank you! I was just discussing the state of our gear with a friend yesterday. We both shoot on the A7Rii and are still very happy with the image quality. I would love to upgrade to get new features and better battery life, but that will have to wait until that big pay raise! I also love shooting Tamron lenses. Hard to beat for the price.

this exactly! The battery life on that camera is unfortunately quite bad. But if you just bring lots of them, you'll be fine :D

Not for the greater photos, no. But for the easier photos and faster processes, yes.

    Hey Albert,
It's great to see you back with a new video. Your photos and videos are always very inspiring.
This video was excellent, covering many important topics with a fantastic summary. Your final thoughts and recommendations really hit the mark. I also found the part about vintage lenses very interesting.
Personally, I am a big fan of vintage lenses. Of course, I prefer professional lenses for travel and crucial shots, but the old ones often have a lot to offer. As a fan of old things, these lenses often have a certain soul for me. It's always a good challenge to work with the unique characteristics of these old lenses during a photo walk, such as the bokeh, color, and so on. Sometimes it helps to see subjects in a completely different way and it really sharpens your skills.
I wish you and your family all the best!
    Greetings from Germany,
    Martin

Yes! Vintage lenses have a lot of 'character'. They're a lot of fun to play with. Often funky bokeh, or interesting colour rendering.
And thanks for the kind words Martin!

By and large, I don't think most of "us" buy what we need, we (me) tend to get what we (I) want. I mean do we (I) need to get a new iPhone each year (no), but I do. And the manufacturers know it and that's why they do these new product releases so frequently 😅😅

After having seen those nice landscape shots, the definite question would be:
Wouldn't have you been able to get all those shots with GH2 and kit lens...
    Easy to answer:
Landscape / tripod / MF / time to compose.
At this point the best and newest AF is just useless.
For anyone in action photography that's another story and the 9 line is the way to go.
I personally really dislike how Sony had artificially segmented the market when they had gone FF E-mount.
Since years I have stopped checking out gear/tools as I have come to the conclusion that is not what matters to get to my final craft.

    I was wondering about this.
Once rented a gmaster 24-70mm for my a7iii. Couldn't believe how great that lens was.
Sharp, perfect, but heavy. So with the GM2 i thought this was the lens for me. But in all honesty im having trouble with this lens. Almost all shot are out of focus. Even on automatic im having trouble getting sharp pictures when people move just a little bit. The only way i get sharp images with the a7iii and 24-70mm gm2 is when i set the shutterspeed at 250. So is this because of my older body? Albert do you know? Didt had this issue with the 24-70mm gm1.
    Thank you

This sounds strange! The GMII should not be like that. Maybe there is something wrong with your copy. Try another one and see if the problem persists. Also: Was your IS in the menu off maybe?

Do we need the newest gear? No. Do some of us want the latest gear? Yes. I always say that my gear (regardless of the type of gear) just has to be good enough for me.
