No other brass instrument comes close to matching the beautiful tone of the euphonium. Have played the euphonium since the 5th. grade am 87 and still playing in two bands.
I play the euphonium, and I never really like to listen to myself play because I don't think I sound good compared to the rest of my band, but hearing how pretty my instrument actually is, I think I'll play louder. Thank you!!
I started playing eupho last year and I'm happy to say I am almost at this level. I was chucked into the hard bands last year at school and can now play 4x better than I did last year. Can't wait until I can't learn something like these songs! Beautiful.
+whatsstandard thank you, but since im in college i only have a little free time, i was planning on studying it and besides, i cant compose music xD im sorry
+whatsstandard Would you still accept compositions? (I am currently working on a piece for Piano and Euphonium, don't know whether its gonna be good enough or not, but I just wanna know if you're still availible or not :)
I'd be willing to look it over but I'm currently on break and won't have my instrument with me until late August. Go ahead an PM me your piece I'd be happy to send you a recording asap.
A lot of practice. Listen to great euphonium players and record yourself and try and replicate their sound. It's a little hard to give specific pointers over UA-cam comments, but think a LOT of warm air (like you're trying to fog up a window) and try and be as relaxed as possible in your face and throat, let your air do the work for you.
if you're really serious about playing euphonium you could start taking lessons I did that when I first started playing baritone and it is the only reason my tone has come as far as it has
Good sound on euphonium? First off super fast air for great sound and stay relaxed and remember good posture and it’s kind of painful bc most kids have bad posture
when going to higher notes espically, try to keep the corners of your mouth tight, but relax the facial and neck area. Compress your chest to produce a higher, but still clear tone
+Daniel Johns Always keep your corners firm, they're the base of your embouchure. When ascending/practicing your high range, It helps to know EXACTLY which note you want to come out. If you can learn to sing the pitches and hear them before you play. That is Rule #1. Rule #2: is (this is kind of odd but Steven Mead uses the same theory) to whistle the pitches, as your tongue position and airspeed are very similar (not identical, some adjustment must be made) between whistling and playing the euphonium correctly. Rule #3: When you whistle, try and make a pitched wind: just whistle very softly and pay attention to the position of your tongue and lips as you create the pitches. transfer that to your higher range playing, using your tongue as a "valve" of sorts to control airspeed and pressure. Hope this helps :)
I love this! beautiful sound! I am going to learn Euphonium eventually, don't think I'm going to do good on it, though. I'm native to Bassoon and I played Trombone for a year, so do you have any tips for beginners?
+Blue Powerade The best thing for a beginner that I can think of is don't think of the Euphonium as a valve trombone (given your background). Think lots of warm air, and try to have a relaxed feeling as you play. Listen to some good euphonium players (Brian Bowman, Steven Mead, The Childs Brothers, and others) and try and find a sound that you like and replicate it as close as you can. Above all, have fun, and happy euphonium-ing! Sorry it took so long to reply!
+Blue Powerade relaxed and controlled embouchure, don't go blasting like a trombone on a euphonium then you'll sound terrible. Euphonium literally means "beautiful sound" in latin. please don't butcher the name
Hey man. First of all, amazing playing. Gotta love the beatuiful harmony you guys make. Secondly, any tips on how to get a sound as close to yours as possible? I am a bassonist and im entering marching band and I will learn euphonium/baritone, because you can't march with a bassoon. Any advice, warnings, tips, or anything? Thanks!
Thank you! Think lots of warm air, and try to have a relaxed feeling as you play. Don't try and play the full range of the instrument until you're comfortable with it. Listen to some good euphonium players (Brian Bowman, Steven Mead, The Childs Brothers, and others) and try and find a sound that you like and replicate it as close as you can. Above all, have fun, and happy euphonium-ing!
Interesting; most bassoonists in the situation take up other woodwind instruments, not brass ones (but many years ago, I liked learning cello in my town's music summer school program so much that two years later I did it again on baritone). By this time, marching season will have already begun, but... If you haven't played another brass instrument before, pick up a method book, learn how to buzz your lips through the instrument and then focus on getting a good sound before worrying about anything else (relax, as a previous poster said). Then work your way through. By this point in your musical training, you'll know what sounds musical and what doesn't; and you're a double reed player so you probably have a fair amount of patience. The fat lip is standard the first time you play. Good luck!
Beautiful! I played baritone / euphonium in high school, 30+ years ago. I'm looking to pick up the instrument again as there is a community band near Menaggio, Italy, where I recently moved. I have about 2,000 euro for a new horn. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you, Mike
+Jonathan Martinez All pieces are identified at the start of each piece, but for simplicity's sake: 0:20 is the Racozky March by Berlioz, 2:57 is Equale No. 3 by Mendelssohn, 6:57 is the traditional Londonderry Air
+whatsstandard Small live halls in academic environs tend to be voiced for vocals and strings...brass (and most winds, for that matter) suffer mightily because of this...we need a dry space...not the brick incarnation of a gymnasium.
+David Courreges This was part of a brass festival week... I'm well aware of the sonic qualities of the euphonium... But alas we weren't the only instruments on the program... Otherwise I may have tried for a venue more suited to the instrument. But in any event thanks for stopping by!! Cheers.

And here's to many more doing so!
I look up to you big time
I love euphonium
CantBeEmpty 1 same its beautiful
Same here it’s the best instrument
I've played euph a little and it is such a fun instrument to play. Brass quartets are always so pretty
I love euphonium 😍 wonderful!
I play the euphonium, and I never really like to listen to myself play because I don't think I sound good compared to the rest of my band, but hearing how pretty my instrument actually is, I think I'll play louder. Thank you!!
Yo, don't judge yourself like that, 'cause that's not what music is. Just let it flow, you'll get better 👍
Absolutely Brilliant. I can't wait until i can play like that!
Thanks!
sounds awesome with the reverb of the hall.............
Indeed

I've liked this march since the high school band I was in played it (I was playing euphonium). This arrangement is a good one.
Blended very well, I always love the sound of the euphonium
This is why i love my instrument!!
I started playing eupho last year and I'm happy to say I am almost at this level.

Andra ha funny it takes a lot longer than at least 5 years to play at their level
So good! Inspires me even further to learn Euphonium as a 3rd instrument.
I love the Hungarian March (played both orchestral and band arrangements of it).
Muito bom mim ajudou bastante para tocar
Amazing!
+God of Low Instruments Thank you!

+Yuki dairo You'll love playing it more! and if you compose for it, I'll play it and send you a recording!

I am a freshman in high school and I'm playing an euphonium and have been playing since sixth grade, how do you get your tone that well?

Im a Euphonium player any advice on my firmness and using enough air to play higher notes

+Blue Powerade Yeah. Throw away your trombone!

The euphonium life is tuff out there but some in the end make great career as eupho players like Steve mead #euphoniumlife #euphosmatter

Marching baritone is not mich like this. Tone and quality will almost never be the same. You need to focus on fingerings, articulation, and dynamics.

A lot of marching bands use euphoniums instead of baritones (but the former are a good deal heavier), so her horn might sound quite a bit like these.
this is good
💜
What is the Euphonium model that they are using? It's huge!
+Kevin Glynn Two of us are playing on a Besson Prestige model 2052, one is on a Wilson T-2900 (i think) and the other is on a Miraphone
Beautiful!

i am thinking about switching to euphonium
i play trumpet at the moment
+Dark Xerneas Openings In my humble, biased opinion, you couldn't make a better choice :)
If you plan to pursue performance professionally, don't switch to euph.
Euphonium
May I ask which one are you?
In the first tune I'm the one on the far left.
Whats the name of this piece?❤️❤️❤️
+Jonathan Martinez All pieces are identified at the start of each piece, but for simplicity's sake:
0:20 is the Racozky March by Berlioz,
2:57 is Equale No. 3 by Mendelssohn,
6:57 is the traditional Londonderry Air
Where did you get the sheet music for this??
From Dr. Bowman's personal library.
Where abouts are these guys from?
+MusicPoweredSquirrel We're from all parts of the country. This was at the Mendez Brass Festival.
i mean what country because i saw Londonderry air and i'm assuming Northern Ireland?
The US of A.
+whatsstandard oh, well how did you guys find out about Londonderry air its usually known as Oh Danny boy
Where did you guys purchase this music? I need to find a quartet and my teacher told me to get whatever I thought would fit our 4 euphoniums.
A lot of this music was actually written for Trombone quartet. We just played all four parts. What level are you thinking?
Tayo
There is too much reverberation in the room for you to play this piece.
William Haney Such is the nature of the euphonium in a live hall....
