I had a pelham blue SG MELODY MAKER all through Junior High and High school. Two single coil pickups. Loved that guitar. White pick guard, of course. No toggle switches, just those little horizontal off on switches. Played it all the time. Played it in my junior high school band. We had fun. Loaned it to a guy freshman year in college, who was thinking about buying it, and it fell from his top bunk and broke where the knobs and electronics were. He paid me for it and glue d it together and it still worked. I'd love to get another but mine was like $169 and now, inflation and all, a clean one is many thousands.
My first Gibson guitar was a melody maker I bought it back in 64 for $99 with a case And it was the one with the whammy bar on it , also hook the boss tone up to it, One of the first distortions you could plug into your guitar
I have three of these...Not the Jonas Brothers model but the "standard" version that came out in 2007 in each color : White, black and sunburst... All modified differently... I guess I was lucky because the store had a hard time selling them and they were floor models so I got them for $300 each... They're cool guitars and to me they are the perfect link between a SG and a Tele...
I remember playing on of these in Tobacco Burst back in this era (2007-2009) at a local music store and being seriously impressed by it especially when it was about $700 CDN. I still regret not buying it then because it got sold after a month or 2 and they never got restock of it.
HEY TROGLY! I enjoyed the video. I loved the distored sound you were using. I think the wiewers would like to know what effects you might be using. Just a suggestion. Thanks
I bought a Firebird Zero new on sale, at AMS for around $300 and I was pleasantly surprised! Not because it was a simply a Gibson, but it was very playable. Great neck, and had decent pickups. It was a limited edition finish called "Goldmist Pearl" but was actually off white, with a white pearloid pickguard. There's nothing pearl about it! But One of the sharper looking ones in my opinion...Yes the finish on the body looked like it came from a spray can, but it was done clean and the natural maple neck reminds of my '87 Charvel Model 1. I like the the pickups & have some decent character to them. I still own it. A very basic guitar...It's not anywhere near as nice as a true specked out Les Paul or Firebird, but for a $300 couch guitar, its pretty cool!
I think the late 2000s are indeed a golden area for the reborn Melody Maker. I have a 2009 modded to a one Classic 57 bridge pickup, and this guitar absolutely sings! 👍🤘👍
Rockin' Trogly closin' out! This single pup, TV White Jonas Bro is a nice example of Melody Maker. Sounds useable especially distorted. But it's weird getting used to the tones of a narrow single pup in a Gibson. Worth getting a custom guard made and sticking the signed one in the case?
I have the 2011 Explorer melody maker. It is a really good playing guitar. I got mine off of Reverb and it had an intonatable bridge and upgraded tuners and had a Duncan JB in the bridge, that is a fun guitar. I don't like the bigger size of the regular explorers so this one is perfect. I also have 2011 Les Paul Melody maker with single humbucker pickup only volume control. That one plays well too, resonant unplugged and just a fun guitar. The pickup is ok, would have preferred something hotter.
I just recently got the 2011 single humbucker Melody Maker for $400. I think the humbucker is the 490R, which is ceramic and meant for the rhythm or neck position, usually wound less hot.. Sounds pretty creamy, super fun to play. Gonna put that Music City intonated wrap around bridge on there, the stock bridge is not great. Then, BG Pups makes a humbucker sized p90 that is supposed to be the best. They have a long lead time on their pickups, but can't wait to slap one of those in that Melody Maker!!
An unexpected review! Picked up a Worn White '08 at the local Guitar Center a few months ago, and I was impressed with it as well. Has a unique sound, and is as resonant as you mentioned. TBT, I bought it mainly because I dig the narrow headstock ;)
just seen a fab purple maroon custom SG with diamond inlays on ebony board in the Gib garage window here in London. Its not on their website or online anywhere for some reason.
I was wondering if you would ever do a review on this guitar. I got the Sunburst model and I love it. My single coil does not sound harsh when cranked up but I do roll down the tone a bit too. I have been putting off installing my Dimarzio SDS-1 b/c I like the way the original pickup sounds. Eventually I will try the Dimarzio and I also have a Lollar Melody Maker P90 but that will be the last pickup I try b/c I have to route the body out. Oh I also bought an Emerson bumble bee wire harness and some hipshot locking tuners.
Dude, sounds sick. Just a heads up, those Emerson bumble bees are not authentic. They make those in house, and paint them bumblebees. So I went with RS Guitarworks wiring harness instead, they make their caps too, yet they dont try to disguise them. The reviews on both wiring harness are off the charts though. Emerson, handmade in Oklahoma, and RS handmade in Kentucky..
There was a cheaper Les Paul bodied guitar. called the Gibson Baldwin Epoch. it was an entry level guitar that carried the moniker Gibson Baldwin Education. it didn't have the Gibson inlay on the headstock. instead it had an Epoch inlay on the headstock. it had two humbucker type pick-ups and a raptail bridge. and it was only produced one year in 2007. and they were all black with binding on the top of the guitar. to have an accurate representation of all the guitars that Gibson produced. you should at least have one of them in your museum. besides you can probably pick one up for cheap. last I knew one's in pretty good condition were going for just under $200.00. however you may not want to do a review and demo on it.
Have you reviewed the Melody Maker Flying-V, Explorer, and/or SG? They were fun, my local shop sold them out for $300. They had maple body and necks iirc
I have an sg special T from 2017. It's an odd model with humbuckers and 24 frets. Never seen them on this channel apart from being talked about briefly
@@joshpointohGibson did get raided in 2011 for alleged use of illegally sourced Indian rosewood. So that part at least is true, but no idea if this model was affected.
I still have my 1964 Epi Olympic in sunburst, double cut. Great little guitar and great neck. Play through a good amp (my Fender Deluxe Reverb Blackface) and it sounds great.
MMakers are mind blown cool, even cooler than Juniorw, Special, Standards, or Customs. Look so funky, love their pickguard, pickups look, and more important the so cool headstock!!
I actually used to own one of these way back when. Not the white one though but i was so impressed it just wasn't my thing at all. Sold it for an Ibanez RG550. Don't regret it but yeah this was crazy good value
I have to agree with the Trog-meister i kinda like the sound and tone of this one. Kind of Stratty tones clean yet it also sounds good with some gain. Imho its a rather cool model, I'd take it. Also love the B.O.C. Cities on Flame at the end! 👍
I still have the duel pickup melody maker face place Trogley sold me. I just haven't started the body I want it in. I'm wanting to do a natural finish maybe stained . Just saw someone selling a set of double line Klusons with chrome buttons real cheap . But who wants button tips.
Challenge for Trog. Sensational Alex Harvey Band-Midnight Moses Live. Lead guitarist Zal Cleminson is playing what looks to be a Gibson SG with dot inlay, single dog-eared dual P-90's, ABR-1? and overwrapped stoptail. 1 witch hat knob and 4 switches, junior style bean tuner tips. Is it legit? The Telecaster that Alex is playing is kinda suspect, too. Cool band from back in the day.
I wonder how many of those Paul Stanley busted on stage over the years...also, I have questions for you Austin; what gage strings sets are you restringing? (When you must) And if I were to send a guitar for reviewing on the channel, how long would it take? Tho one in question has a Floyd Rose System on it, but i have 'teardown/set-upl' tool that makes it a breeze! Are you interested? Let me know
Hey Austin. I’m looking for my birth year guitar. 1965. So no LP 😢 and an SG or even a strat or a tele (😊) is way out of my price range. So I’m left to look at these guitars. I have max £3000 ($3900) including delivery an charges but I’d like to spend less. Is this a service you would do? Find a guitar, document it and send it on to me in the UK? My only real criteria is a preference for Gibson and it must be playable cos I want to make it a day to day couch guitar.
That guitar sounded better than anything you've demoed in ths last 3 months.

Flat slab of wood with a single coil bridge pickup. It's kinda got the Telecaster thing going.

"My Name Is Jonas" was a nice touch. It doesn't sound too bad!
So was the Skipper on Gilligan's Island... Jonas Grumby...
First thing i would do to this thing is take of the film and rub of the logo.
The routing is better than every Custom Shop I've seen.
Modded mine with faber compensated bridge, Grover tuners and mini humbuckers and it sounds amazing
A Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder is a drop-in upgrade and a massive improvement.
Signed on top of the pickguard film.... smh
My name is Jonas.
Do you have any brothers?
This is not a dating site.
@@blegend9351lol! 😂
Jonas is Lithuanian name of John
Jonas John Juan 😂😂😂
@Trogly The "P1" in the cavity is for the single pickup version. These came with dual single coils also.

This vid is a rerelease.
Too bad it was vandalized in such a horrible way.
I've got one of these 2008 melody makers. That guitar is so loud unplugged.
The South Park episode featuring the brothers Jonas, is funny as hell!
That Strong Bad coaster is boss.
13:50 it’s little Easter eggs like this that make your channel so special 🥲

What about the Gibson School of Rock Guitar.
Is it "PL" or "Prototype 1"?
Happy that you liked this little beast
13:51 i see you did there 😂😂😂

Chamfer the top and back edges and put two humbuckers in it and you have the old PRS Starla. 😂

After 2011 (post government raid) they came with a baked maple fretboard instead of rosewood. Lost the magic. Make sure you get rosewood.

Those crunch tones are exactly what I would buy a Les Paul for!
Melody makers and Little Rock machines and the P90 ones are even better
That thing was ON FLAME at the end!!
18:20 Cities a Flame
Sounds great Austin, guitars like that have their own sound/vibe, almost impossible to get that tone from any other Gibson.

I had one of those in white too. It was a surprisingly good guitar
£500 Gibson ? No thanks. I'd much rather have a £500 Epiphone.
I had a red “61” Melody maker. Best neck I ever played…
I would love for you to review the old 60s Kalamazoo branded electric guitars. That should be THE cheapest guitars Gibson ever produced.
Purty snappy, it’s got some glassyness
Melody makers have always been solid for the price
A hotrails is a good solution if you want a humbucker sound

I have a 65 MM double cutaway with the trem…. Had it since 83…
I like the 60 melody maker this one is not to much to look at. I'll pass on this one but thanx for the history take care Trogly.
Pretty good sounding instrument actually
I actually really like the dinky headstock.
2003-2006 version is where it’s at x100.
Good for you, Trogly! That is a cool piece & having that much fun is a WIN…
Stick a Seymour Duncan Little '59 in that thing.
That sounded great! I like the sound. May need to track one down…
Like the headstock as it gives the guitar a vintage classic look.
Sounds ok ish.
A little Blue Oyster, eh? Those cities are on flame!
Still sounds better than a fender
Easy
I looked for quite a while to find single coils that were not on a fender. Yamaha worked out well
Adjust pickup high, lowering may help with the ice-picking sound
That guitar sounds amazing.
Yo Mr.T. I know you wanna start modifying some stuff. And you can make a video of it
They feel amazing and my new modern light reminds me of it
I remember the mid 2000s melody makers.
Novel idea, relic naturally.
I have a late 60s B15 acoustic with the very same head stock.
My name is Jonas 💕
I think PL could stand for... pretty lame...
I had a 2003 melody maker cherry red, great guitar. Tune o matic bridge and stop tailpiece p90 pickup full size headstock les paul model logo.
Sounds a whole lot like a Junior 🤔
Not a junior
How much did it weigh? it looks like 5lb at most 😆 EDIT : 6lb ? not bad. My DiY Paulownia wood One humbucker strat is 6lb. Light AF.
Perfect grunge/punk band guitar! Cuts through and is not polite.
that girl's filthy with raw tone. sounds great
A 6-pound guitar is worth picking up, no pun intended.
No lightning bar bridge? Changed.?
I wonder what the $99 Trogley membership gets you?
Sweet sounding guitar for sure
I have a melody maker special really cool and this crazy dark blue weighs under 7 lbs
The freaky fish style was the best.
They were the best value for your money with just enough 60s charm to them
Jonas Brothers; “JB” … Lol … no one with the initials JB could ever play guitar well … 😏
Hahahahahahaha!!! I see what you did there!
Jeff beck? Jack black? Jake bowen? They play pretty well
ide route the neck for a tele neck pup and call it good. these are great mod platform.
