probably the best hunting video I've ever seen. the story, the footage, and recovery of this world class buck is what makes this video the best. thank you
This guy is by far my favorite hunter. Always composed and respectful. Very rare when it comes to hunting personalities anymore. Great buck and Thank you for sharing the story with us.
I have long resented "trophy hunting". I felt it was taking the thrill out of deer hunting for young people. To me a trophy was (and remains) a deer that gets me excited. The resulting deer meat is more important to me than the antlers. Some of my most favorite hunts have been for does. My first buck with a bow is still my favorite hunt and I've taken much bigger bucks with a rifle. Anyway, I am always impressed with how you approach these giant deer. It seems about the hunt and the experience more than the score. Love the shows.
This video and the g5 buck videos are truly amazing. I think there is a very valuable lesson to take away from this hunt, especially for my fellow whitetail hunters. Most guys wont shoot past 30, this was a 52 yd shot on a 200 inch magnum whitetail. And Bill took this shot for a reason, no wind and completely relaxed buck. I think a lot of guys pass on giant bucks because they are a bit out of their range which is most of the time 30 yds or in and they dont feel confident. Practice out from 60 and get comfortable guys, there are opportunities that you cant pass up
IT'S HUNTS LIKE THIS THAT I MISS MY DAD ; GOD REST HIS SOUL ; HE WAS THE BEST TEACHER AND TRUE SPORTSMAN JUST LIKE YOU. I WISH YOU FELLERS COULD OF MET ; THANKYOU FOR THE MEMORIES.
It makes me confident enough to take a shot that far out. Thanks Midwest Whitetail. This video actually is going to help make me a better shot and have better judgement in myself.
Well done man. Excellent shot, for all those who are critical of the shot, I say that was an incredible display of skilled shot placement and sportsmanship.
Bill, congratulations, this story is the true definition of why we bow hunt these magnificent animals. Monarchs like this are life changing and give us a greater appreciation and respect for the right to pursue these amazing whitetail kings of the forest.
Footage like this is why Bill Winke is my favorite bowhunting TV personality. He doesn't make a marginal shot, turn the camera off and the next frame is him standing over the dead buck (maybe three days later!??). You can learn from this guy and see some whopper bucks too!
I just watched this video. Your tenacity & resolve in the pursuit of the G4 buck is remarkable. Thank you for sharing your hunt & for explaining your method and approach to this exceptional success.
I'm 35 now and know that feeling of sadness after the hunt is over. Its like what am I going to do now, and even as a hunter there is a little sadness for the fallen warrior
Great buck great perseverance. I understand the sadness i chased a big 13 for 3 yrs and got him in the 2015 season and literally had teary-eyed mixed feelings seein that buck in the food plot not movin. There is a sense of abrupt ending and i was sitting there rememeberin all the clos calls and i remember thinkin for a sec man if id missed but he looks good in my livingroom!
I love watching videos like this. It gets me all excited for deer season! And makes me all the more excited for hopefully shooting my first deer, hopefully a buck, this season!!
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing and watching this story unfold for us. Thank you for sharing this amazing story with us and I congratulate you sir. You earned that buck
boy that really certainly sums up bow hunting..well said..and very nice to admit sum sadness now that he is gone because i certainly would to..the place probably seems empty now hes gone but it certainly is about the journey and the superior knowledge a guy like you has for whitetails that hopefully you dont forget..90% skill and 10% luck i believe...congratulations!
A BIG CONGRATS TO YOU! Perseverance pays off! You keep proving it! One big thing that you have in your favor it is your ground and only you hunting the buck So either you get him or no on else does, and it is next year for another exclusive chance at the buck. Also nice to live in Iowa too. HA! Your video's are well done and I am looking forward to more of them on you tube. Your living some of the American dream my friend. Thanks for sharing some of it with all of us. Happy safe trails to you.
Congrats an I too know the feeling of empty woods I finally killed a buck that a neighbor an I have been after since 2009 this past season he is at least a 9yr old buck an went down hill this yr from yrs past but really wasn't the score that made him such a trophy for me it was knowing that I finally outsmarted a highly sought after an such old deer that makes him my deer of a lifetime
Can you do a video explaining the harness system you have set up? I'm curious how you did the setup where you can hook in at the bottom and lock off as you go up.
Grady Truitt that's a life line, can make your own or hss or other manufacturers have them! Search treestand life line, they are a must have imo especially if ya leave sets hung after season.
I'm looking into that setup. Used to be that person I don't need a harness. I climb trees 4 a living but I'm in a saddle with spurs ropes and buck straps. 5 weeks ago I fell 25 feet out of tree stand I didn't brace tried to roll into it i broke my wrist needed surgery and pins slight concussed too o guess mom said. I got lucky very lucky to only get a cast on wrist for 8 weeks top it off I was alone had to go back up for bow and bag. Never again will I take that chance
It was an amazing three years of hunting him. I still get goose bumps and feel a bit melancholy when I think back on it. Strange relationship that we have with the animals we hunt. We love to hunt them but sometimes killing them is not the true measure of the hunt. There is a quote I really like - not sure who said it: "We don't hunt in order to kill, we kill in order to have hunted." So true. Actually my favorite episode ever is this one: ua-cam.com/video/MJe2_xXvl50/v-deo.html that few people have watched. Best regards. -Bill
I agree with your sentiments entirely. Your patterning booner video is great. I also really like your creeks/ditches book. So practical for most midwest scenarios. I think it's helped me be more successful. Here's a couple videos of my hunts-ua-cam.com/video/HKjiP0t82ws/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/zgAbdmfNVSU/v-deo.html
I've got the Hoyt power max right now and have a 62 pound pull on it. Do you recommend going up a couple pounds or down? Because i don't really know if that's too much or not enough.
Read the story last night, saw the pics and now the video. Am I missing the reason for his name? I only see one split G4? Did he lose one of the splits?
Bill, I know it's been almost 5 years, but congratulations nonetheless. The G4 buck was a monarch. I'm sure you're hunting his grand kids now anyway.-Paul
I started to use one this past season again. I always felt that I could attach my release to the string faster than I could hook the loop. I have had three shots in my life that required me to get to full draw fast and I am not sure I could have gotten those bucks with the loop. Possibly.
So these hunts are from the 2012 Season right? How come it took so long to upload? Just wondering. Great shot and congrats on a very emotional hunt. I can only imagine the fever he gave you!
Beautiful buck. Curious as to the damage you found from the broadhead. As for the unethical sayers, you train for your conditions. People say I am crazy for being able to take deer at 400 yards with a specialty pistol. I handload, have a 400 yd range in my backyard and access to 800 yds within 15 minutes driving. I know my weapon, its ballistics and I shoot a lot to confirm drops at varying distances.

I really enjoy you sharing with us the time you spent just sitting there with this deer and your son.
Thank you. I really like your videos especially your adept filming and your commentary. Keep doing it this way. It’s exceptional.
Whew, that was nerve wrackin'...thanks for taking us along for the ride. GREAT SHOT, GREAT DEER, GREAT VIDEO! ! !
Best whitetail hunting show on TV. Very real and informative.

Not sure what you could say about that Hunt and Recovery, but Outstanding! Really amazing Hunt calling him and Making that Shot! Bravo 👏
Always a great show but this is the best story yet! Awesome Job Bill!
My favorite Midwest Whitetail video. Such an incredible buck.

Wow, great video and great buck. We can all learn about tracking by watching videos like this.
Like watching your hunts for the g4 and g5 great content in the videos on keeping it real about the hunt and not the inches
Thanks Jerry. Much appreciated. -Bill
Midwest Whitetail! The best hunting videos.
Amazing story of this buck and congrats on the recovery! Lots to be learned from this video.

Yet another great video. Keep up the great work, you are truly blessed.
Yes, for sure David. Thanks for the support. Have a great week. - Bill
It's all about your effective range , conditions and confidence. Don't be a hater. Good job Bill!
What a great shot!
Winke's the man for sure!
What music is this? Can’t beat Bill’s personality and it’s cool seeing the guys running it now and when they got their start
Great shot William!
Great show love watching you guys on UA-cam great shot keep up the good work

what a great question your boy had,It will give it a true twist of excitement for every set of ears that is near
what a freaking hunt! I was nervous for you just watching it
Does anyone know the name of that song in the background?? Starting at 1:39?? I love that melody and I can't seem to find it! Any help is appreciated!

This deer is gonna go down as an absolute legend!!!
Congratulations. Loved the video
This has to be your favorite deer, right? Great story and final resolution.

Thanks! You're the master. People can't really imagine how hard it is to film hunts. Keep up the great work. @@MidwestWhitetailVideos

I'd say that's plenty. What kind of broadheads are you using?
Awesome shot!! Congratulations!
Bill is always finding the giants! Bill can I come hunting with you? Lol 😂
I love your show. Super Buck! Congrats!
Is that dude on the Jerky commercial eating chips there too?
Love this hunt and recovery. Hunting in its true form
"hunting in its true form" it was shot off a deer farm
@@kchurchify if you call that a deer farm every person that owns ground and hunts on it has a deer farm
@@kchurchify the fence is for cattle…
what harness system is that that you are using when you are climbing the tree
Muddy.

Get warm ones. Great advice take it or leave it up to you
Read the story last night, saw the pics and now the video. Am I missing the reason for his name? I only see one split G4? Did he lose one of the splits?
He had double G4s when he was three years old and that was when the name started.
Just awesome stuff👍👍
Thanks Garrett. Really appreciate it. Have a great Easter weekend! -Bill

How many acres is the farm?
God bless you and your family have a wonderful season
Thanks Richard. God Bless you also. - Bill
That Hoyt strummed like a banjo on the shot.
great buck...and nice history with your animal! congrats!
Awesome job buddy
What county in Iowa is this? I hunt in Lee county. Just curious how close you guys are.
Doesn't look like he is gonna answer you,,,,ha ha.I will be on my first Iowa trip this November in Van Buren County.
Why do you not use a d-loop?
I started to use one this past season again. I always felt that I could attach my release to the string faster than I could hook the loop. I have had three shots in my life that required me to get to full draw fast and I am not sure I could have gotten those bucks with the loop. Possibly.
What did he score
Gross in the 205 range.
So these hunts are from the 2012 Season right? How come it took so long to upload? Just wondering. Great shot and congrats on a very emotional hunt. I can only imagine the fever he gave you!
It has been on the MidwestWhitetail.com website since a few days after the hunt. You can watch all these videos there first.
Nice, thanks for the response! Can;t wait for this season. i am already Chasing November!
