I filmed this in the New Orleans convention centre during the World championship barbershop competition in 1992. This was during a concert at the convention centre.
I miss these guys. I met them all at interlocking in in Mi. When they sing with the cherry capital courseI actually went out sailing was ElmerThe Empire carpet Guy.These guys bring back the good old days when I was a kid yet sing Barbershop with my grandpa and the cherry capital chorus every summer.
I was researching the empire man and the rabbit hole led me here. I remember seeing Elmer Lynn on commercials thinking he owned Empire carpets 😂 just found out he passed at 89 years old.
I saw these guys at a barbershop convention in the late 80's, and they were hands down the best entertainment quartet I've ever seen. They did a show with a "bed" that stood up on stage. That made it look like the audience was above them, looking down. As I recall, each had a stuffed animal. The songs were hilarious and went with the theme of four "little ones" in bed with their stuffed animals. I could have watched them for hours.
I was so glad to get to meet Lynn at an afterglow when my mother sang barbershop... just about the nicest guy ever, and GEEZ they were hilarious... even more so behind semi-closed doors!
Thank you for uploading this! My finance and I saw them for the first time about two years ago during a Greath Northern Union show. These singers were awesome, and I look forward to seeing them live again! :)
@terrystewart3 He was the third from the left when this video starts....his name is Lynn and yes he was the Empire Carpet guy....he passed away just a few days ago. here is a link to the article.
Thank you Terry Stewart! But for you I would never have heard of these guys. They gave a new dimension to the style, didn't they? Very talented, hilarious! (What else have you got on your camera, Terry?)
mixquartet said "The best was with Catctus Pete George Peters on Bass and their original tenor Doug W. -- sorry guys! " I totally DISAGREE.. Ive seen Cactus Pete.. Pete cant hold these guys a light to see by. These guys have their acts down,, and their harmony is uncomparable. Ive been singing since I was 3. I should know by now. ATTA WAY TO GO CHORDIAC ! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!
Can someone please tell me which one was the Empire Carpet Guy ? Did he pass away....Someone has posted he was 89. I filmed this in '92 which would have made him around 67! He does not look that age in this video!

WOW! The harmonics are amazing and the lyrics are too rich for one to hold thier composure.
Incredible and funny. Why aren't they an opening act in Las Vegas?

What an effortless lead. And incredibly funny, no doubt, but... he just looks like he's talking and it comes out sounding like that... crazy.
