I was there in 1998 - 2003 many times! Nice town and girls too! But where are all the people?

I went to Prague, Vilnius and Tallinn during those years quite a few times too. There was a cool energy in the Baltic air following EU membership. In Vilnius the guy who showed us to our apartment didn't like all the changes his country was going through. We came across him later at night in the street and he was crying because his wife had left him because he wasn't rich and things were moving too fast. He kept saying he hated 'bling', which at the time was a buzz word representing materialism and showing off. I wonder what happened to that dude.
