Brand new batteries and I was so frustrated. Worked brilliantly. And thank you for not having a 5 minute explanation of the physics behind why this is happening prior to getting into the fix. You rock!
Thought this could never work plug it in and out as fast as you can only took about 3 mins and it started charging saved me from buying 2 new batteries… keep it plugged into the charger took about 15 minutes to start charging… I have T100 batterys. Thank you great hack
Thank you for this! I had a replacement battery in my cart, but decided to check for a better price and your video came up in my search results. Tried this technique for 10 minutes and it switched over to charging. Much appreciated!
OMG, I did this about 10 times and got the red light to come on! Fingers crossed it charges enough to just put one cabinet together without me having to order new battery packs or buy a new drill. Thank you!
I had a somewhat new battery that would not charge even though it showed two light bars on it. I did this for about 2 minutes and it worked. Thanks for the simple tip with no long winded explanation.
This worked well for me. Now I'm upset I didn't find this video when I recycled a couple batteries awhile back that I should have tried this! Great job.
Thank you so much, it happened to a brand new battery and your fix worked. You have saved me from hours of torture with the return to the online vendor.
Awesome! I tried it for about 3-five minutes. Just about ready to give up did it a few more times and now it is charging :-) thanks for this! Pretty brilliant.
I had already done this a few times just because... "have you tried turning it off an on again?" But after watching this video I only had to try once more and it worked - cheers!
Wow, had the battery apart to do the 'bypass circuit board' charge and was just looking for a video to show where the positive and negative was on the inside and found your video. Put the battery back together, three times in and out of the charger and it started charging fine. Amazing. Thought it would take like 40 times or something. Battery hasn't been charged in probably six months before this. Thank you.
Tried this over and over again on a very dead battery pack. Finally drilled out the tamper resistant screws. Found 5 cells in series that collectively had 1 volt. Used a small 9V DC charger across two cells for about 20 minutes. And then across the other 3 cells for about an hour. Voltage across the 5 cells rose to about 16V and then I could use the charger. So yeah, thanks for the suggestion! Sadly, nothing kind to say about Ryobi.
Great tip and worked for me after about 8 minutes, leaving the battery in for about eight seconds each time before the charging shut off. Delighted !! Thanks !!!!
My charger was simply not reading the presence of the batteries. I roughed up the contacts on the batteries with some sandpaper and the problem with solved.
It really worked!!!! After watching about 5 videos saying to open the battery and connect wires to it… 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾 After watching this I tried this and within 30 seconds my battery went from testing to charging. Thank you!!! 🤙🏾🤙🏾
I did this with my battery and checked progress with a multimeter. My battery was only reading 0.01 volts at start. Did this for 1hr 20min and battery read 0.18 volts. Battery would not charge. Charging threshold is at least 0.5 volts, I believe. At that rate, I’d have been there for at least another 2hrs. It works, I guess. You just gotta have patience. I purchased some cheap alligator clips and will just be disassembling the battery and jumping it directly, bypassing the drain check.
hey! it worked! my 4a battery wouldn't charge and showed defective. i did what you said and it only took about in and out about 10 times and then started charging 👏👏👏👏👏👏thanks
Bless your heart 💗 I was at the end of my rope thinking I was going to have to try to find a 7.2v battery but I got it to charge. Thank you, thank you 😀😁😆😂🌹
Hello Louis Scott here understanding your efforts to getting a Ryobi to charge and you are correct but a method I used was to get a tricycle charger and connect the positive and negative leads portion to the + and - sides of the Ryobi battery for just a second are two eliminate the detective mode. Probable NOT recominded.
Ive accumulated about 10 Ryobi batteries because of these problems. They really are the worst because I don't have these problems with my Milwaukee chargers. I guess I'll give this a shot before buying battery #11.
disappointed. i just bought my ryobi combo: blower and trim edger, it include a brand new P108 battery and P118B charger. both red and green lights are flashing as defective. i called ryobi for warranty and they dont have any P108 batteries in stock. looks like i'll have to return my combo
Haven't tried it yet but if it works for me or not, Great info! And judging from the comments, it's worked for Plenty. Will try before buying a new battery (using my spare right now :). Thx!
This is the same trick we would use with nickel cad batteries back in the day , only we'r would plug the charger in then unplug it and repeat til it started charging and it worked saved a few dollars at the time.
Just connect a battery charger to the internal pins. Regular the current, obviously. It should gather enough charge to be recognized in a matter of seconds or a few minutes
it didn't work for me sadly more then 10 times with 2 seconds to plug it , but i tryed to plug it to charger with 2 wires with + with + and - with - with duracell battery 1.5v aaa , i have waited for 12 minutes to see effects then still not charging then i tryed wire connected to battery + to - and - to + for 16 minutes then I removed the wires to see will start to charging by its self but still wont to be charged
Beginning yesterday, the charger won't illuminate any of the indicator lights. I unplugged the battery and plugged it back in several times, but it won't do anything. Any suggestions? This is the only ryobi battery and charger that I have.
Didn't work..took the 5 screws (Torx 10 security) out, measured each cell, found the weak ones ( under 2.6 volts) and used a single cell LiIon charger from the usual scumbags on each until voltage was over 2.7. Then I used a 5 cell charger for the entire battery until it had 16 volts. Re ass embled and slapped it into the fast charger. Like mint. The reason for this is a cell protection circuit which won't turn the main MOSFETs, feeding the electrons to the negative side. Battery pack protection circuits don't all work the same way. Weak cells are the weak link and could be damaged if charged in series, causing a fire. So if you use any method to resurrect dead packs, do it outside on a flame resistant surface. Have a bucket of water handy to quench any chemistry version of a scaled down Chernobyl run away.
My charger is flashing defective without the battery plugged in. As soon as I plug the charger it blinks defective and I haven’t inserted the battery. 🤦🏻♂️ any help on this?
Hi i got a problem with a ryobi batery 18v First: the indicator charge just turns on one led when this One have 17 volts, and second, the charger show as if this one are loaded but have 17 volts and the drill don't Work with this Voltage Do you know what could be the problem? If you can answer me I would be very grateful, thank you
At 17 volts, it sounds like one of the five lithium cells inside is low / out of balance. The BMS sees this and won’t charge the other fours cells past 4.2 volts each. The solution is to open up the battery and measure each of the cells. When you find the low voltage cell, charge that one cell with a cheap 18650 cell charger and a couple alligator clips.
This suggests to me that an even easier fix might be to take a working and charged battery and a couple of wires and use that to charge the failed battery.
Brand new batteries and I was so frustrated. Worked brilliantly. And thank you for not having a 5 minute explanation of the physics behind why this is happening prior to getting into the fix. You rock!
I would have enjoyed the chemistry.
Absolute common sense. Simple and a big thanks.
I mean it was almost 5 minutes
An almost new battery wasn't charging but within two minutes of applying your trick it started charging easily! Thank you!
Thought this could never work plug it in and out as fast as you can only took about 3 mins and it started charging saved me from buying 2 new batteries… keep it plugged into the charger took about 15 minutes to start charging… I have T100 batterys. Thank you great hack

This worked PERFECTLY!! LIFESAVER! Thank you so much! I found it a lot easier to use a surge protector
I had a somewhat new battery that would not charge even though it showed two light bars on it. I did this for about 2 minutes and it worked. Thanks for the simple tip with no long winded explanation.
I was skeptical at first, but on the 24 minute mark it started flashing and charging. Thank you so much for the tip legend :-)
This worked well for me. Now I'm upset I didn't find this video when I recycled a couple batteries awhile back that I should have tried this! Great job.
Thank you so much, it happened to a brand new battery and your fix worked. You have saved me from hours of torture with the return to the online vendor.
Absolutely brilliant I plug it in and out of the charger for 2 seconds at a time after 10 times it started to charge thank you my friend works a treat
Thank to the point,
I have the xb battery range did the same and in 5 minutes started charging battery again. Well done. Thank-you for your simple but effective fix.
Awesome! I tried it for about 3-five minutes. Just about ready to give up did it a few more times and now it is charging :-) thanks for this! Pretty brilliant.

My God, works for me, exactly 25 minutes. Thank you. Save me money 💰 💰. 👏👏👏👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
It worked for me, thanks......I plugged my charger into a switch controlled outlet. Flicking the switch on and off made the process fast and easy.
My charger was simply not reading the presence of the batteries. I roughed up the contacts on the batteries with some sandpaper and the problem with solved.
It works. Unbelievable hack. I was about to spend money to buy a new one. Thank you.
Thank you so much. This worked for me and just about five minutes of slamming thing over and over into the charger.
This worked great. Took a while of taking it on and off charger but worked in the end. Thanks a million 😊
It really worked!!!! After watching about 5 videos saying to open the battery and connect wires to it… 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾
After watching this I tried this and within 30 seconds my battery went from testing to charging. Thank you!!! 🤙🏾🤙🏾
I unintentionally did this trying to get it to work so after watching this video i plugged it in and worked right away lol. Thanks!
UGH! I just recycled two batteries that I thought were done. Thank you for this. These things are 'spensive!!!
Just did 32 minutes. No charge…. I envy all of you with “5 minute fixes”
I did this with my battery and checked progress with a multimeter. My battery was only reading 0.01 volts at start. Did this for 1hr 20min and battery read 0.18 volts. Battery would not charge. Thanks for posting! I saved $50 & one less battery for recycling!
Took me 5-10 mins and it’s started working !

Thanks for the help I’m just a kid who needs to mow his lawn and was pretty stumped
Tks i'm going to give it a go at this, just hope i have patience for half an hour
Bless your heart 💗 I was at the end of my rope thinking I was going to have to try to find a 7.2v battery but I got it to charge. Thank you, thank you 😀😁😆😂🌹
I'll sure try this before the method that tells me to disassemble the battery! Thanks!
Thank you. Eager to try this. Will post again when I, too, see your suggested method -- works.
Thanks to you, saved me hours of watching useless videos you are a G, took me 5 tries and its charging now
Just worked for me with an 18v Plus batt. Thanks!!!

Worked took about 12 tries Thanks
God bless the internet. This worked for me thank you sir.
Thanks, it got going after about 5 minutes of doing this trickle charge.
Thank you! I almost packed everything back and wanted to exchange everything it, saved a lot of time
Amazing, I had 2 battery's with my drill, binned the first that this happened on...but this just happened on my second battery...this worked perfectly
Thank you it worked however at first I thought it was crazy!
You, sir, earned a like.
Thank you so much for this easy recharge!
Thank you !!! I’m here at work 6 in the morning trying to figure out whats going on
Thank you. Took about 2 minutes
Thank you!! This
Solved my issue.. I appreciate it.
Worked. So simple. Thanks for this

Going to go test this now on two batteries!!
Oh man. Glad I saw this. Might just saved me some dough
This actually worked for me... thanks
Dude... you just saved me $$. Thank you so much!!!
It worked for me too. About 50 cycles of plugging it in.
This is the same trick we would use with nickel cad batteries back in the day , only we'r would plug the charger in then unplug it and repeat til it started charging and it worked saved a few dollars at the time.
Holy sh*t worked for me on 2 batteries. Thank you!!

You broke the seals on the battery. The computer beat you
Not sure if this is a prank or not but I'll give it a go. 😂
It's a prank only if your battery wont hold a charge
Failed bullshit
My battery wouldn't charge I did this 10 times and now the battery is charging so it does work.
My charger is flashing defective without the battery plugged in. As soon as I plug the charger it blinks defective and I haven’t inserted the battery. 🤦🏻♂️ any help on this?
It worked man! Thanks! 🙏🏻👍🏻
Hi i got a problem with a ryobi batery 18v

hi, my charger has still green light but battery is empty, what can i do ? i measure 7.34v on it thanks
what does it mean when you have a static red light and a flashing green
Charging
Great idea Sir!💪🏿
What do you do with a battery that has a full charge but will not work in the tool? 18 V 4ah battery
ever find out how to fix it, i have the same problem.
Me too same problem
This worked for me on my Ryobi 36v Lithium+
Only took about 30secs.
Excellent!
Exactly what I ordered!
Thank you. I'm not going to tell you how many batteries I threw away
WOW, It worked!!!! Thank you so much.
Awesome man I just did it and it worked! Thanks
This suggests to me that an even easier fix might be to take a working and charged battery and a couple of wires and use that to charge the failed battery.
Thank you so much for the info!
Men it works!! ❤
Thank you Thank you. worked like a charm
Thank you! It worked for me.
What if it stays on testing and doesn’t move to defective mode?
This is fantastic! Totally worked! Thank you!!
Did you wait until it turned red and then took it off after it turned red
Man you save me some bucks! Thank you!
I have 2 18v ryobi batteries showing 2 out of 4 bars and wont charge what now?
Great video! a classic one!
Half an hour...glad i bought a new one...but mine never said defective
Just doesnt work
Understandable, there are a few ways. Hopefully another fix will help you, good luck!
Works perfect thanks. Great hack
Crazy that after two years this is still a problem apparently. Why has Ryobi not addressed this and fixed it already is the question...
Awesom, took me about 5 minutes. Thanks so much
mine stays flashing red any solution. thanks
I dont think i have the different ranges on my charger?
This worked. Thank you!
I dont have half an hour to play with batteries.
Instead, use a car battery charger / floater to charge it for 30-60 seconds and then it’ll charge it.
Huge thanks! This worked!
