But I thought there was only like a 20-30% absorption rate for metallic iron? It has to be the second kind. Breakfast cereals aren’t a dependable source of iron. You need meats and dark greens.
If it is actual metal shavings like that, how an earth is that good for us? Does out body even digest that properly? I find it really disturbing this is in cheerios that i give to my toddler as a regular snack and now I don’t know if this is a good thing or not? Please help!
I imagine if the particles are finely divided enough, they stand no chance of doing any damage. The stomach acid should help dissolve it from metallic iron to iron ion (+2). The human body has a hard time absorbing iron, so people who are at risk of being anemic should take more in than others. They also say cooking on an iron skillet helps with this. Imagine if we could see what's in our food at the microscopic level? We'd probably never eat again! LOL!
@@ScienceWithMike It's so interesting to have lived as many years as I have with a perspective that didn't contain very much knowledge in the field of chemistry and biology, and then having gone through only 1 semester of biology and chemistry, to see how something like this seems perfectly okay whereas I'm sure that before, I would have had similar thoughts. That there's no way this should be okay. Science is so cool.
Your guts is so corrosive that it can melt and absorb anything (in proper time). In Foods: Overdose is fatal, but before you overdose, the bloating will kill you. Eating in moderation is helping us grow stronger and healthier.
If you are worried. Best just cook your child leafy greens as a snack instead of cheerios. Whether or not you believe eating metal shavings is proper, those cereals are garbage.
I don't care what this guy says it is not good for you to have metal shavings in your stomach and digesting it I don't believe for a one second that this is good anyway shape or form
This is a nice experiment, it always flabbergasts kids. Until they get distracted and throw their magnets everywhere. Doesn't that last part require a "Kids, don't try this at home?" :-) Have you ever watched the "Pippi Longstocking" movies where she eats nails?
You stomach acid will dissolve it to form Fe2+. It's not the most absorbable form of iron, but it's something. They also say cooking in an iron skillet adds a benefit of this sort. You might ask me who is "they", I have no idea it's just something I remember. It could be a dream I had..

My dad
said if I can extract enough metal
from cereal to make a knife, then I can
become a cereal killer.
i love how much fun he's having, really hope the channel grows you deserve it! and I actually didn't know this hahha
Thank you! Yes, very much fun!
Chemists making this in a lab: "And add some metallic iron to taste..."
HaHa!

"I guess I should taste it" LOL I love this guy

Can u test if it's actually iron or metal as well
keep making good and edutainment videos like this. love from Indonesia. God bless you.
Should the iron be extractable like that?
Sure, if you have a super magnet! I'd just go troll the street on garbage night instead. Much easier.

Love this dude, I always had straight As in school. Chemistry was the best class
This was so funny and educational
Hey Mike, isn't the iron in our body in the form of ions(!)?
Why do we need to consume metallic iron?

Isnt it unhealthy to eat that stuff?
Yes, very much so.. iron filings
It is a touch disturbing
Metal iron + HCL = Ferrous chloride or iron chloride which is very toxic and corrosive. So yeah, no problem for humans here...🤔
He finna take offffffd
I ate Is Mega tons of this as a kid. 😭😢😥😤😤😤
