I've used electric shavers for more than 32 years and I had a few different models and brands in the past, I had a Braun foil dry rechargeable shaver that lasted me 10 years with just one change of the cutting head, another one was a Remington R1 R150 dry rotary shaver that lasted me 5 years without changing the blades (I dropped the shaver by accident, braking it on the floor), now I have a 6 years old Braun 340s-4 dry/wet rechargeable foil shaver (still it has the original "cassette"(foil/cutter) and it holds the charge for almost 2 weeks) this one is fantastic when use with gel or foam on the wet mode; also I own a Philips series 1000 dry rotary rechargeable shaver (3 years old) it shaves super close with very smooth clean shaves especially if I haven't had a shave for more than 4 days, the Philips shaver tackles the whiskers without any problem giving me a comfortable and irritation-free shave, but as the first Braun shaver is starting to show the age (with daily use for 6 years it was expected to happen) and the Philips starting to get old with the same blades (3 years and never changed the blades) then I bought another Braun 330 series 3 dry rechargable foil shaver that is a great shaver if use every day as it's very gentle on the skin and gives me very close, smooth and clean shaves (this one is better for a daily use).
just keep the shaver clean, lubricated and from time to time (depending on if it's a rechargeable shaver and the type of battery it has), drain completely the shaver battery by using it, till it stops and then recharge the shaver full again; by doing this, you will maintain the good condition of the battery and it will last you a very long time.

What I do to clean mine is using the brush to remove most of the shaved whiskers. Then I use compressed air that comes in a can. I tilt it so that the blades can spin very fast. That removes anything clogging up the gears.

When you turn this on, should you SEE those circles turning? I got one for my son. You can turn it on and hear it humming along but there is no motion like you'd (or at least I'd) expect. Thank You.

I got my R2 for the same reasons, my old battery operated one was just going too slow, even when plugged into the wall and for 20 bucks, its cheaper than shaving cream and a package for gillettes.
I also got the r5 for portability (and it looks sexy) but I think this r2 actually shaves better. Doesn't seem to hurt as much, shaves closer etc. Probably something to do with the power delivery. Because it runs off the mains, the rotors can just spin that bit faster. I love my r5 and we all need portability sometimes, but yeah, when at home, use the r2, why not?

I have this exact same Remington corded shaver, as well as a cordless one, that takes the Remington SPR style shaver blades. I also have a Phillips corded shaver that takes the HQ8 shaver blades and a Philips cordless shaver that takes the Sh30 shaver blades. While the Remington's do shave well, I cannot recommend them. The main issue I have with these Remington shavers is the quality of the metal shaver foils in the cutter head that protects your skin from the blades - after 2 years, the metal foils will have little pieces breaking off, so your skin is exposed to the blade in that tiny area the foil broke off. I don't have this issue with my Philips shaver blades, and I have been able to use them as long as 5 years with a little sharpening with some wet metal sandpaper. And the genuine Philips blades cost only slidhtly more than the Remington blades, $40 for Remington blades vs $60 for Philips blades. Also, for the Philips shavers, I can go onto Ebay or AliExpress and buy generic shaver blades, have been using them for several years and they work just as nicely as the genuine blades - there are no generic blades available for the Remington though.
Philips no longer makes a corded model, but they do make a cordless model that can be run with the cord plugged in. The only downside they have is the charger cord will start to fray and need replacement after a few years, but generic cords are available for cheap that solves that problem. Considering the Philips shavers cost only slightly more to buy and replace the shaver blades BUT the shaver foils & blades last considerably longer than Remington, I will take Philips when it's time to replace them. Better to spend a little more up front to save more in the long term!

I had one of those, until the plastic gearbox clogged up with hair and stopped. I made the mistake of opening up the gear box to clean it, and there is no way to get it all back together simultaneously.

Motor is weak. Got it for a birthday gift to replace my 22 year old Norelco corded shaver (it still works), cord finally gave out. R405 takes 3 to 4 passes to get an average shave. Flip up trimmer miniscule. Very time consuming to use and not easily used for goatee, or lip edge grooming.
It was a $20 shaver, now $30 in 2024. As good as the price paid for. Pro: Will work for 1st electric razor, or must have cord option. Con: Results and effort are not worth saving $10 ($20).

Need more plugins. That is the only current 120 V plug in I know about. Battery rechargeables are junk. Plug in has more power.

It feels like it’s pulling on my hairs when I’m shaving

It happens to me also. When I don't shave for a few days and my beard grows too much (too lazy to shave). When I shave everyday or every other day, it doesn't pull my hairs.
