Fantastic... I've been looking for a video like this for 2 yrs
Cool Video.....Thanks for your careful disassemble. I always open my own speakers. It helps gauge how much they can handle, As well as see how well they were constructed.
LOVE your work. I just subscribed. I'm deciding between the JBL 305P and Mackie CR5-X. They cost the same, they sound the same with my eyes closed, but I love the look of the Mackies better. However, I have heard horror stories about the Mackie's construction, for example, that you can't repair them because the circuits are covered with glue. Do you know anything about them?
I'm enjoying watching the new product's hot decomposer
Excellent build quality and components for the price.
Thanks for the teardown, I'm looking forward to buying these!
if we have too many electronic parts, this means that this equipment is exposed to multiple failures in the future 80% of failures are caused by the explosion of transistors due to overheating.
JESUS CHRIST THERE'S A LOT OF STUFF IN THERE.. HOPE THEY SOUND GOOD, JUST ORDERED THEM. AS A MUSICIAN GUITAR GUY, ALWAYS IMPRESSED WITH JBL FROM THE 80'S ON.
Hello, i have the same speakers and one of them stopped turning on out of nowhere... any tips?

whenever i see someone goop their parts i wonder if it's because they don't want to make the item repairable or to obfuscate parts...or maybe someone was jerking off on the assembly line. either way...is there a reason for this or is this just sloppy? it looks s tiny bit strategic to me...maybe functional? anyway, mine arrived yesterday...opening them tomorrow.
I used to own JBL previous version to me the sound is very thin, not warm. If you want a warm mix try Tannoy Reveal
Looking to upgrade my monitors speakers, I already have a pair of Tanoy Reveal 501a, do this one has a better quality audio and more powerful bass ? Sorry I a home consumer I do not know anything about this stuff are build.
WHERE CAN I GET SOME PIECE ? I NEED FIX MY JBL ..
+1
Can you please say the speaker impedence ? How many ohms the woofer is ?
A professional speaker that front is made of plastic instead of mdf or hdf.
because of the wave guide.
@@puresesh7985 wave guide is not needed for mid/bass speaker
@@nellight5397 false wave guides are needed and if there was only plastic for the tweeter it would look worse. Do you work at a speaker company no.
Front baffle should be made of mdf or hdf if not it should be metal just like what JL audio used in their E sub series. Thought those are subwoofer, I will still insist that baffles should be made of wood not just plastic as it should be stiff and should be able to handle the vibration that speakers produce. Additionally, one of the most important sides of the cabinet is the front as it holds the speaker. That's why speaker manufacturers tends to double the thickness of the front than side and back. Do you also work on a speaker company? Absoulutely not.
@@nellight5397 the plastic baffle on these speakers is fine they are not subwoofers. and they are not that powerful. i agree wood should be used in most cases and for subwoofers thick mdf should be used but these are studio monitors and to get the wave guide they used plastic also big pa speakers use plastic for there boxes. also the 3 series of monitors sound fantastic even sounding better than speakers double their price range.
could you please tell me in your Opinion Kali LP6 or JBL 305P?
Qoli kali
Can we convert it to passive speaker and use it for home theater
what type of fuse does it use?
Exactly what I needed, only other thing they could a done is pulled the foam out of the box to show how thick the actual wood is but whatever
is that MOSFET in its output stage , just like the Hypex uCD ?
It is Class-D ic amplifier.
odd that they put the board in the field of vibration.. although maybe I'm wrong about how the sound waves carry
You are correct they should have isolated the electronics from the speaker chambers.
@Eithan S It's probably not a big deal. I'd just recently learned that poorly soldered old pcb board can lose components with too much vibration. I actually don't even know if there is a field of vibration behind the speaker so I probably shouldn't have commented.
It seems likt this enclosure would be fairly simple to upgrade..

Nicely done my friend..! In terms of the result(sound) you think it is really improved? Is the mkii better?
Since audio equipment manufacturers went into using class d amplifiers is when a lot of audio quality problems started.
@@tyronenelson9124 would you please explain why?
What type of Amp did they use before?
Thanks
@@Talia.777 What do you mean by, type? thanks
@@Talia.777 They use class D (pulse width modulation) amplifiers now, which are small and way more power efficient but not as high fidelity. They used to use class A or AB, which have better fidelity but are huge but hot and suck a lot of power. Class D amplifiers also tend to have a quiet hiss, which is present in these JBL's. www.crutchfield.com/S-y3R5rWSwwEP/learn/which-amplifier-class-is-best.html

the amplifier circuit looks to be improved does anybody know if there is much difference in sound from the MK II to the earlier version?

Awesome speaker 😍
You can pretty much see the corners that were cut in their designs. I would: #1) Use modelling clay to fill in all the open spaces in the whole front baffle - I bet that baffle vibrates like a battery powered d*ldo. #2) Install a dowel across the opposing sides of the cabinet to stiffen it - as it is now, I'm pretty sure that it vibrates/resonates too. #3) Add in some Sonic Barrier acoustic foam to all internal cabinet walls - that would kill even more left over resonances after stiffening cabinets. #4) Add in more cabinet damping material like Acousta-Stuff or polyfill - that will reduce internal standing waves and dampen bass peaks to clear up the midrange and improve bass responses. These improvements/mods are pretty much universal for any budget speaker (and even some of the more expensive ones too). I did this with my Energy RC-10's and it improved them a great deal - they're now punching above their weight quite a bit.....
All wrong but ok😊
Lots of B.S in this comment. And if there were cut corners, it's a budget studio monitor yet still looking better than most monitors at that price range.
Greetings..., I accept the baffle thing, but messing with the cabinet NO! Because you would be affecting the QTC. It is supposed to be a critical listening monitor, not a "Hi-Fi". By adding reinforcements, and new damping material..., you automatically change the internal volume of the enclosure. Which in turn lowers the QTC from 0.707 ⬇️🚫⚠️ That would practically add or increase the distortion in the frequency spectrum further. The most ideal thing would be to build a new cabinet but with a more rigid material and respecting the manufacturer's internal volume to obtain an improved response. A QTC below 0.707 gives you a flatter response, it is true, but at the expense of sacrificing the punch of the kick and other instruments in that area, not to mention that the diaphragm of the "mid bass or woofer" driver will shake more because that driver is not made for that excursion linearity. That translates into a lot, but a lot of distortion. For this job, the subwoofers were created with larger suspensions to be able to faithfully reproduce this frequency range. But the modification of the baffle also occurred to me as it could improve the resonance near (17kHz-20kHz). Another thing: if you had only added the cabinet reinforcements without the new damping material, the QTC would have risen, then the problem would be another one, which is that you would have more punch, but less precision. If you want the best of the best you have to make the cabinet new and more rigid like aluminum, birch wood, rose wood, even bamboo you can make it with a higher density (1" or 25.4mm), run away with all your might from MDF is the worst material of all that's why it's the cheapest. Reuse your baffle to make sure you have your stereo field that waveguide is calculated to precision that's why they are so famous. One last last minute observation watching the video is that the tweeter does not have a dedicated compartment. You could make a small box (NOTE: this new box does not need internal volume so the smaller... the better). The resonance of the inner cabinet may be muddying or dirtying the linearity of the tweeter. Another thing you can do is modify the cables add thermoplastic insulation and shielding to reduce and hopefully even eliminate interference (RFI/EMI), by the electrical network of the house that also adds harmonic distortion "THD". Another update is to verify that all components are well secured. If any are loose, adjust or glue with hot glue. Upgrades: 1. Fill all cavities of the speaker with asphalt panels, compressed fiberglass, custom MDF blocks with glue, polyurethane, neoprene, dacron, etc... 2. Wrap the cables with thermoplastics. 3. New cabinet. 4. Check for loose components. 5. Create a compartment for the tweeter. 6. Bevel the cabinet for less diffraction and a better stereo field.
@@user-xowo3vxy92b73h The thing about the cabinet mods is to NOT take away more than ~5%-10% of the cabinet volume - hence, the small wooden dowels, the bitumen sheets, and the porous foams - which won't take away more than ~5%-10% of the box volume. Above that is when the bass and Q values will change for the worse - below that simply makes the bass tighter, and allows the mids and treble to be much clearer and cleaner, IMO. Other than that, I 1000% agree with you...
No, of course... For the readers who read me, my point is that you can buy speakers with that Hi-Fi color in that same price range, and you will save time, money, and energy. There are situations where no matter how much you want to squeeze out every last drop of performance, it will be impossible to achieve the best results with factory materials. So when you add the speakers + the modifications..., you are better off buying new speakers. Now there are situations where for fun or hobby we want to improve the unbeatable, I think both me and my friend are the same in that aspect. 😆🤜🤛😎 All audiophiles are sewn with the same needle.
I own it. the tweeter doesn't sound like jbl. they should use paper dome like the le-20-1 or titanium dome. I just can't get the jbl experience from my pair of 305. it's an excellent speaker by itself though

Safer to go with passives , unless money to burn on really high end non passives , but yeah who cares gear normally lasts quite a few years then just add an amp to cooked non passives
which version is better in your opinion?
the second generation has a little better sound ,
mkI as they sound the same the mkI looks better and has more adjustments for hi and low.
This is not a real active box because the crossover is passive. So it doesn’t make much sense, it’s a scam.

They have a very small hiss, nothing to problematic, you would only hear it if the room was dead quiet or where quite close to them

@@cypher7031 If you're serious about monitoring treat your room first or build a non-symmetrical room entirely draped with felt and go buy a pair of Behringer B2030A. Borrow a calibrated mic, measure, eq for flat response down to 30hz which would sacrifice ~10db of perceived volume. Borrow an oscilloscope and test for input voltage clipping, then set input trim at the back of the speakers. Listen nearfield.

Damn that sucks. I mean plastic front panel
That looks very cheap but don't think it would affect the sound that much.
for its waveguide, it should be made of plastic. of course the important reason is for low build-cost. however it is thankful for good sound from low price! the sound of 3-series has been proved by many users.
if someone needs more higher built quality, he should find 7-series or m2, which the reference monitor speaker in jbl product lines.
