I really think this is the ONLY battle report on UA-cam of this platform. I’m building 1200 points of Gondor for this game while my friend is working on a conglomerate of evil stuff. I do wish to see more of this content!
This is in my opinion the best games GW has ever a produced. All they really need to do is update and balance some of the units.

It was the existence of this game that got me into Wargaming. Bought tons of guys to paint and the rule book and then realized too late that no one near me played anything but 40k. I still have the book a not a few movement trays

this is still my favorite game of all time. Thanks for showcasing it Ash! btw, all of the evil men are in the Fallen Kingdoms army section of the book.
It's only briefly mentioned in the books and movies but rohan fought a series of delaying skirmish battles vs isenguard to protect the civilian population during the evacuation to helms deep.
They briefly show one of these skirmishes in the movie, and the aftermath when eowyn says so few of you have returned.
Really..really happy you showed this game. I am actually in the process of painting Gondor and Isengaurd for this very game but i did not know where to get the bases.

Great game ash! Love this game it was one of the first game system I tried to get into. Also on a side note: Lurtz has a special rule to reduce the resilience of hero by 1 on a 4+. Not a big deal but potential game changing, especially with all the heroic challenges this game.
@30:32 , i think monsters only align with one company in the formation. In the rulebook (page 44) it said when you charge a monster, only the spearhead can align with it. The rest of the companies gain support attacks as usual. Love the nostalgia from this game Ash! keep the battles coming!

This was really the GW opportunity to deal with gamesofthrones game, when they stopped battle. We all have minis for skirmish mesbg already just some add and it would have been perfect. Needed a hero system as card of soiaf and or a sheet like saga and it would have been so much fun

Also Theoden gets to call a free Epic Charge each turn (he can call one epic action each turn for free) and that also increases his fight value. Basically making him one of the best heroes in the game while in a cavalry formation

I noticed there were just a few minor things you guys got wrong or missed but was super excited to see the game and you explained how it plays really well.
The small points are really fun, we often play 1200 as our standard which is about just right... but you can go silly and put down thousands once you know what youre doing because the game is so brutal.
So excited to see a decent Batrep on my favorite war game.
Be great to see some more if youre wanting to.
Id be keen to see you guys expand the armies some more... iv lots of plastic models i could send you as freebies... might need stripping but will help flesh out the units.

Dont get me wrong, SBG its a great game, but tolkien's work is full of magnificent battles and the miniatures scale GW produces for this is perfect for massed battles...
Andres Ismodes except the large battles in the book last all of like, one page each. The skirmish battles fit the system better and the feel of the story as a whole.
What game mat is this and where did you get it from? Love the look!
Marketing this game, as well as the skirmish game, was my job with GW. Before GW had stores everywhere in the US, I had to travel around to bigger game stores and run demo games to build buzz and move product. Also, if anyone came to any Games day in Chicago, Atl, Baltimore, or LA in the early 2000s and played any of the Lord of the ring's table, that was probably me. TBH I never really liked this game compared to the skirmish game.
I still have my the entire GW collection in the closet. Probably going to ebay it one day.
SBG is better.
@@Sacrilege83 If you like mass battle games in a fantasy setting just use hail Caesar rules easy to modify stats of units for lord of the rings , orcs play more or less like Celts in mass warbands and gondor are Rome anyway. Rohan play like numbian cav etc

Guerrilla Miniature Games Nice!! An under-appreciated game if ever there was. I went through a year-long phase playing WM, but I never bought a fig: I downloaded tiles off the internet. Which could be why GW didn’t support the game - punters like me weren’t paying the monies. I guess I kinda did it to myself ...

I think it's kind of cool how GW forgot about this game-- now they can't gouge people with needless new rulebooks and nonsense like that. And if some of the units need balancing, you can balance them yourselves with your play group.

I’ve not played any Lotr, but I’ve been having a great time watching you play and learning the rules through Gmg. I suddenly find myself very curious what some of the Fellowship fights/scenarios/missions look like. Any chance you’ll play Frodo, Strider, and Co fighting hordes of goblins and orcs anytime ever?
Personally I think the game is best at that Fellowship level. Those scenarios are really gripping
Wow, this game is close to KOW and Fantasy Battles. I wonder why it's not popular at all.
Rafal Maj, because there is stuff in the army lists and special rules that is super silly. Ash and Owen are using fairly balanced low point armies here, so it works well... but gamers being gamers will look at the rules and find the best cheese they can... and WotR is full of them. Perfect for scenarios and if you just recreate the battles and scenarios, but rules as written shows some serious inconsistancies especially with magic and special unit rule combos
Never much liked WotR but A Song of Ice and Fire does it better.
Don't the Berserkers block the line of sight for the Uruk Crossbowmen's shot into the Army of the Dead in the woods?
Warlord, nope... there was clear sight to the woods base which is essentially the formation while occupied, but the AotD get a defence bonus. You just have to draw a line to the woods and range needs to reach the centre of the woods :)
What I didn't really like about this game during the time was that GW meant for this system to replace SBG and sell more models by doing so because the system requires more. Problem was that a unit of 8 models needed 3 expensive metal blister packs at the time where you have 1 model extra left over. Then you would take your very expensive metal unit and smash it up against another unit. And unlike SBG your expensive 8 metal models unit will go down after 1 or 2 rounds of combat. $60 cdn worth of models gone after 1 round of combat... let that sink in a bit.

I preffer Runewars: Miniatures Game & War of the Ring Second edition by Ares Games. This is a mix between those two.

How big are the miniatures 28mm? Are they compatible with wizkids and reaper bones miniatures?
I think they are 25mm .

What did the unstoppable charge on t1 do? Was that the +6 attacks vs infantry? I only remember one of these from a white dwarf and I thought it was fantastiiiiic

It gave them an additional D3 for the fighting companies. Cavalry always get +6 on the charge vs Infantry!

This game is broken. There is a way of stacking buffs that give you infinite attacks that kill on 1+
You can break any game, if you play it in the spirit of the lore and for thematically cool battles its a decent game.....tournaments break all games attract the win at all cost players who love finding those cheesy combos
