Maurice Ohana created a language of its own. It allowed it to compose quite various music, such as this "Tamarit ring" for cello and orchestra which is not at all in the spirit of a concerto. This is rather a symphont ordered around a principal instrument. Ohana is poorly known; this work is one of his best known. This is one of the best works for cello and orchestra of the French school around the middle of the XX° century. The others can be fond in Jolivet or Dutilleux's works. IN quite another style, Messagesquisse of Pierre Boulez deserves to be considered too.
Une oeuvre malheureusement trop peu conn, comme la musique de Ohana en général. Pourtant très poétique et composée avec des harmonies tout à fait originales. Grazie Wellesz !

Very interesting... just started to discover Ohana's highly idiosyncratic music

Je redécouvre Ohana avec cette pièce fort intéressante !
