    I like this. I was very interested in the potential of an Island plaudarium from the other video. I had finnally successfully made an Island palu myself, however, I have rescaped it to a traditional paludarium such as this one since then. Thanks for the videos! Even more thanks for the feedback! You've inspired me to video tape my own creations.

      Stephan Münch Thank you kind Sir :)))
      The next swamp is well and truly under construction. Building the cabinet for it at the moment. Once that is complete, I can start on the display. I will send you some progress pics ;)

    This tank looks so great and natural with all these different plants in it.
    Really good footage of this brilliant tank!
    Great work!
    I'm courious how fast the plants will grow. :)

      Aquarium and Terrarium Life Thanks!! .. The plants are mostly aquatic species that have adapted well over time to growing emergent if not completely above the water line. The Java ferns seem to be really fast growing and the moss also to a lesser extent. The water is pumped to the top of the walls 24/7 which successfully keeps the majority of them wet which no doubt is helping their cause.

      Ah, this is interesting. So the humidity in this tank and the water that runs down the walls is sufficient for the ferns to grow. This is cool!

      Aquarium and Terrarium Life Yes. It is a very wet environment. Perfectly suited to aquatics growing emergent.

      Japan Herping Channel Thank you. It looks a little bit bare after the trim .. but will allow some fresh growth.

    What an amazing creation, may i ask how you managed to get plants to grow on the fake rock panels and also the air plants/bromeliads on the wood, how did you attach such?

    • @MrCookster65
      @MrCookster65  5 років тому +1

      Michael Livingston I used shredded moss on the fake and real stone and wood. Left to grow and attach before adding animals. Broms and tills were tied to the branches using a cotton thread. They eventually grow roots to support themselves as Epiphyte’s. Have a look at the Billabong build process video.. I explain it better there for the moss.

    hi mate. fantastic set up. i build my own paludarium on a pretty decent scale. had a nightmare building a decent hardscape. do you mind me asking how you went around building the hardscape?? am already designing an even larger paludarium

    So im a beginner and trying to make a paludarium for my firebllied toads i just got ( someone was giving them away, as their kids werent taking care of them ). Decided i'd really like to give them a nice home and have been doing research for weeks now. Im wondering how your soil/substrate works? Everything else ive seen so far has a false bottom for the water and then a layer in between that and the soil/substrate so they dont mix. How does yours work, why doesnt it need it, and also where do you find that soil? I couldnt find it on amazon. Amazing paludarium, and i hope i can make one even half as decent as yours :)

    How many different plant species do you think are in there? And what do you do to trim them, especially the broader leaf plants?

    +Ian Cook This is very well done! Do you have a video of the build process? And the background is just spray foam?

      Leonardo Andrade Thank you :) ...and greetings to you from Australia!!
      The enclosure was not suitable for the frogs.. far too humid and not enough air movement...
      only fish in the Billabong now.

      +Ian Cook aw, did the frog make it?

  • @abrahamnutrition
    @abrahamnutrition 6 років тому +1

    Ian it looks like your water pattern has changed. Are you only using 1 pump? Do you actually have water flowing down the waterfall or is it coming off the drip system? Thanks. It is still one of the prettiest paludariums here!

    • @MrCookster65
      @MrCookster65  6 років тому

      bob abraham .. only one pump and yes the waterfall is decorative with water from drip system.

    How do you stop the substrate from getting into the water?

  • @ohbruh1477
    @ohbruh1477 9 років тому

    How humid does it have to be for the plants?

    • @MrCookster65
      @MrCookster65  9 років тому

      Kpribbit In this set up, the humidity is maintained very high due to most plants being aquatic varieties. There is not very much airflow and RH is around 90-95%. Generally, a pal/viv will be less and have better air flow. I think somewhere around 70-80% RH.

    Does paludarium need a false bottom ?

    • @MrCookster65
      @MrCookster65  9 років тому

      Vickor Gunandar You can construct the paludarium with or without Vickor. Mine does not have a false bottom.
      The ground of mine is completely wet... swamp like. All plants are either aquatic varieties or terrestrial ones that can survive with wet feet.
