  • We are going to service rock shock reverb seat post. The problem is that my reverb developed a play. I will try to fix this with the service.
If your saddle moves back and forth as you can see here you will need to replace the top cap. It's available as a preassembled part only.
For the service I will use original service kit. First we need to extract the seat post then remove the saddle. With the lock ring pliers remove the snap ring at the bottom. We push out outer seal head clean it and release the air. Now we need to remove the bottom cap. Be careful not to damage the stem, do not over tight the vice. Use the adjustable wrench to untighten the seal head. You can continue removing the head by hand. Use the pick tool to remove the o-ring from the lower tube. Now secure the lower tube into the vice and remove the top cap with the 34 mm wrench.
Pull out the upper tube and remove the brass keys, later use new keys with same number of stripes. Now remove the external bushing and the o- ring from the inner seal head.
Pull of the top cap. If you are using the 420 mm seat post pull out the plastic bottom insert and remove the o-ring.
From the top cap remove the dust wiper o-ring and foam ring. Replace the foam ring and o-ring with the new one. Sink the foam into the 2,5w suspension fluid.
Insert soaked foam ring into top cap. Now remove the energizer ring from the dust wiper and put the dust wiper into lower tube. Now push the dust wiper into top cap and reinstall the energizer ring.
Lubricate the o-ring and insert it back into the top cap.
Lubricate the inside of the top cap from both sides.
Put it back to upper tube.
Take the new upper seal head kit. Lubricate o-ring and place it back to the position on the inner seal head. Install new external bushing. Take new keys with same number of stripes. Lubricate the slots and install the keys.
Lubricate the inside of lover tube. Push the upper tube into the lower tube. You need to squeeze the external bushing. Rotate the upper tube to align the keys with key slots in the lower tube and push in the upper tube.
Important!!! To eliminate back and forth play install the new top cap else
reinstall and tighten the top cap with the 34 mm wrench.
Apply small amount of grease on the o-ring and reinstall it on the plastic bottom insert. Put new oring into the lower tube and insert plastic bottom insert and install new felt washer.
Lubricate and replace the orings on the outer seal head.
Thread and tighten the outer seal head.
    Apply some more grease.
Pull in the outer seal head and reinstall the snap ring.
With the shock pump Inflate the seat post to 17 bar or 250 psi.
Replace the o-ring of the valve cap and install the valve cap.

Great job! Good to go for another 40 or 50 hours. Lol! Add me to the list of guys with Reverb problems. Mine has 1/8" of play. I've done a full bleed and 250 psi. I just don't think they work very well.😞

How many years of medical school did you have to complete before you were allowed to perform this operation? Great job on the video! Thanks!

The best way to service these is to remove and fit something reliable

for the record: this doesn't help if your stealth (mmx, ca. 2012) sags the often named 10-20 mm. the problem there has to lie into the inner damper or in the locking mechanism. thanks for the tutorial tho, thought a little inner care might fix my problem too ;-)

The purpose of the video is to help you to do it your self. If you send your reverb to me it will probably cost you more than if you take it to the local shop. What exactly is the problem with yours or what are the symptoms?

my seat post moves up and down slightly and the guy in in Evan's bike shop said its the piston thats at fault and that a service will be a very very temporary fix - he also said the service is very difficult to do. Can anyone weigh in here?

what kind the grease use for lubrication? what kind suspension fluid use for dust o`ring? Thank for the tutorial!

The fluid is the official rock shox reverb one, as for the grease you can use any type of fine grease. Personally I use PM 600 military grease everywhere. Watches, motorcycles, bikes, cars - it works great.

Hello, My reverb seat post got stock in upper position and won't go down. I tied to bleed it, got some air out but this didn't help. It's still stoked and not moving in any direction. Any advice will be highly appreciated

why, because you need to either send it in for service or get your hands dirty once a year? I couldn't live without mine.

Bikebook, I need to do a basic rebuild on my Reverb. Would you recommend I buy the 34mm crowfoot socket to torque the top seal to SRAM's spec or is making it snug with a regular wrench good enough? I'm thinking since I don't have a 34mm open end wrench, it might be worth it for me to just buy the crowfoot socket. Thanks for the help and thanks for the video!

What is that vise block you used? Is it a rubber or polymer one? The ones from Rockshox are expensive.

    • @bikebook
      @bikebook  8 років тому

They are plastic vise jaws. Nothing special. The price should be around 10€/$ at any hardware store.
