  • In West Wales, builders Ian and Jane take on a formidable challenge: transforming a derelict Victorian school into a green technology education centre and family home. Faced with financial hurdles and structural decay, they tirelessly work to restore the building's historical charm while infusing modern eco-friendly innovations.
    -------
The Restoration Man features architect George Clarke as he explores the UK, discovering unique buildings being transformed into homes. Each episode highlights a different historical structure, like windmills, churches, and towers, focusing on their restoration, architectural significance, and the personal stories of the homeowners involved. This series blends history, architecture, and inspiring renovation tales.

I have been watching these programs for several months now. This particular one is very meaningful for me as I was working on building an Environmental Technology Center in Wales in partnership with CREW. Ours never came to be but I am happy to see that the Building Technology Center they were building actually opened recently. Congratulations.

Bowled over by the vision, dedication and determination of this couple. Good luck to this forward looking project. What a shame that trying to be as green as possible is not made easier.

Great teacher, he got the lesson in the real action for his apprentices. May the School thrives - let's pray that we have more committed teachers who relentlessly and unselfishly try to put their efforts for the community and for the virtue of education. God bless this amazing couple

Bravo, Bravo, Bravo. What a beautiful restoration and brilliant craftmenship. Not to mention the courage and strength of the owners just to say a few. I wish we would have construction like this in California... blessings to you all.

I love watching your program. I have built not, restored an Italien style villa in Sri Lanka.
A huge challenge, language cheats rogues and so in!! Took me four years in all villa, pool, second building and three car garage, and costs of course soared. Soon after I finished building I lost my husband. I have been trying to sell this place for two years but it is not possible with the political situation and COVID. So I stay put and wait! Your Programm takes me away from the reality here, for a while. Thank you I really appreciate your work.

You should sell old bricks with past students names engraved on them to go into a wall.

Plse somebody explain to me,some of these houses are so well situated but there are some that have this awkward adjoining houses like very obscurely attached why did they do that?,what was the purpose?, I do love a lot the L shapes,T shapes and Cross shapes they are so wonderfully made and they are much better in terms of planning the house when it comes to interior designing.

What a beautiful building. However, the newest addition (the front office) is not my favorite. I wish it had been taken out.

When he says at 6:50 that he likes 'straight, flat things,' and then gestures toward his wife, I thought he said, 'I've got Olivia for the rest of my life' indicating his wife (who is not straight and flat!). My ears playing tricks on me.

If the very clean power boat was theirs, and used very little (as they said) that’s FAR less fuel than a knackered old car. Boats can be sentimental things. Often the last asset to go.

    • @lezzleee

Better than to not go eco and also still have a boat.

My next door neighbor (Berkeley CA) has diesel car, truck and boat. All run by used bio oil he collected from restaurants. They are happy for him to take it. He built a tiny refinery on his property and he drives for free! He swears it was easy.. When he drives by, it smells like French fries or Chinese food. The wax that is left from refining the grease gets put on their used paper to make Dura-Flame logs. There is a bio-fuel gas station on my block for less ambitious diesel drivers wanting to have a carbon negative footprint.
