Spongy Meme Sause if you play the Sonic Gems Collection port (the GameCube one) its actually a lot more controllable with the GC controller layout and makes the game vastly more enjoyable especially when played with two or more players. Its always been one of my favorite Sonic spin offs.
I hated sonic R, but i'll be honets, if they made the controls better it'd probably be one of the best sonic games out there. That and update the graphics. Sure they're good from a technical standpoint, but i've seen Atari games that look less ugly than that

When I saw 'Super Sonic Racing' in the shop in Smash Ultimate, I immediately bought and listened to it, thinking about your 'guilty pleasures' video. Please don't JonTron us again.
I popped off when I saw that. The sonic series music selection in ultimate is amazing.

Matt I. Sonic the Fighters would be another great game if it was remade. It isn’t a bad fighting game, and I don’t think it deserves to be one of the worst fighting games or worst Sonic games, but it’s no secret why nobody likes this game.
Wow, big props for only mentioning Tails Doll once. Every other Sonic R video just seems to push that as the one thing about the game other than the music.

@@SeraphimFaith Tails Doll became subject to creepypasta treatment due to it's strange design and concept art. Seriously, it's a doll that's a third of the size of Tails and just floats for no reason. People just assumed it was a haunted doll.

The courses are like this because Travelers Tales also tried to focus on the minigames, like baloon catch and tag, giving more space for the characters to move around in a race course.

Sonic music is mostly rock, representing his coolness and attitude and sometimes switches up the genres with R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Orchestra and etc. Hell, in the 90s some songs were similar to that of New Jack Swing!

I actually like the music of Sonic R. It's not exactly appropriate but it does make everything more chill. Also I love the ideas you proposed for improving the game.
Amy's hover car mode does give her an extream advantage in some short cuts as long as it's not winter. So in that way it can make up for some of her disadvantages but not really.
Might be rembering wrong but the more important thing about robotinic missiles was that they take coins away when your hit by them. Thus you cant aford boosts or short cuts.
I mean, the missiles taking rings away is a decent idea, and it could possibly make up for how weak the impact is, but that means almost nothing when the missles have such bad accuracy that the chances of it doing anything at all are too low to justify losing 10 rings to use it.
Sonic R is and feels rough. But it becomes enjoyable if you play as Knuckles and prioritize flying instead of running (because Knuckles' glide controls rather well in my opinion). Other pros: the music and the challenge of completing all the levels. And multiplayer, maybe...

This a great video! I loved that you actually talked about Sonic R after the guilty pleasures video! Sonic R is my favorite Sonic game and one of my favorite games in general. I already wrote the script for my Sonic R video and I really liked how it turned out! (I actually used to take the left route on Resort Island lol)

This was a very well made retrospective on this game, and I really admire the attention to detail you put into your criticisms - as well as the map adjustments in the latter portion of the video. Too often, I think Sonic reviews on UA-cam are treated like some funny novelty that doesn't need to be objective or fair as long as it's funny and cashes in on the "Sonic is cringy" trend. I feel like you blended humor and objectivity really well here, and it's refreshing to see - especially about one of the more unpopular games in the series. Great stuff.
I hope Jon over at Gamehut can make a "Sonic R DX" similar to his "Sonic 3D Blast DX" which essentially fixed the issues found in the original release.

Whoa I love those Resort Island edits. That would be worth pursuing as a game hack at some time.
Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit actually did the "two stages in one" thing. Blocked off different areas, changed day to night, different time of year, etc.

18:43 - That is true, the weather option was on the PC version. But, it was also included on the GameCube when Sonic R was was featured in the retro-collection title: Sonic Gems collection.
(That's actually how I descovered Sonic R. My older brother and I played Sonic R from time to time and unlocked everything. Sure, the game aged poorly but we enjoyed it. And to this day I still adore the main theam and credits theam)

Ironically, Super Sonic doesn't use his feet, making "try to keep your feet right on the ground" line rendered useless, as you'll most likely use him 24/7 after you unlock him.
Wow Silok , I haven't heard that Emerald Coast theme song in quite awhile and I got so emotional, thank you! That was my very 1st video game in 2001 when I was 3 . My mother put the dreamcast controller in my hand and told me "this moves and A jumps" she said that was the begging of my video game career 😂😭✝️ man...sweet sweet memories!
This game plays well if you imagine your character is a formula 1 car and use the 3d controller.

This video actually helps me see why this game didn't sell that well; it's not balanced as a racing game and too few tracks.
That said it's fun for me, even though making outside routes just for collectibles seem silly, it's fun for me
To be honest I still find these songs turbo-catchy. If I hear one, it's hard to purge it from my mind.
I like the fact that you play 'Book End Bossa' by Round Table, from their April album at the start of the video. I thought I was the only one on the planet that knew of / owned this album (I bought it when it first came out, back in the day).
Onto Sonic R; I was a Sega Saturn fanatic when the console was around during my high school years. The only person to own one, basically. Loved the console. Loved Sonic R. Didn't even realise the game was so disliked until years later when the internet became a thing. I really loved it. It only had about 5 courses, sure, but that was every arcade racing game on the Saturn.
Loved the music. Controls were fine, once you got used to them. The exploration was fun. Never figured out how to climb the walls with knuckles though, supposing that you can(?). It said you could in the manual, but as hard as I tried...
I need to give kudos for the track editing you did at the end of the video. That is some fantastic commitment to the video / game. Personally, I think Sega should commission another Sonic R. Get Sumo Digital to do it. Not a fan of their Sonic / Sega racing titles, but they would have the commitment to pull it off.
I would be seriously excited if a fan hack of Sonic R came out and was improved the way you described.
About the music, people seem to forget that was normal at the time, the Nights credits music, Astal, 3D blast (Saturn/PC), Burning rangers, Sonic CD's opening all have lyrics with a very 90s tone, it wasn't just Sonic R. Personally I like the way they sound.

aside from the day/night thing, the track idea is kinda neat. I like my ability to choose time of day though.

That soundtrack is actually one of my fave SEGA OSTs ever
a very good video overall. but i'm not sure if i agree with the track changes the whole reason for the islands for example. are that they are out of the way so your forced to prioritize taking a longer route but being faster than the slow AI in order to get (for instance) all 5 of the coins. Yea, if your taking the shortest route you can easily overlap the AI but when your going out of your way to get the collectibles it kinda balances things out. as far as the hairpin turns, there's a mechanic that lets you lean Left or Right to get a shaper turn, i have a feeling most people never notice because on some versions of the game it's not exactly easy to do because of button mapping, but if mastered can make easy work out of most turns. i do agree though the characters could use some re-balancing. Keep up the great work.
