The reason I think horizons 1 map was so good, (the same could be applied to some other games around the same time), is because the map was made to only consist of closed off roads. The roads are good because it’s what the player would spend the most time on, so it had to be engaging and exciting. When open world racing games opened their map more in the future, maps were made with no barriers in mind, meaning the maps design also had to accompany the fact that the player can drive off road with ease, not saying racing games maps have decreased in quality, but it means roads are designed around the maps ease of freedom
Just so you know, UA-cam NEVER notifies me when a new video of yours is out. It does with other content creators, but not my very favourite one, YOU! I only ever find out about your new videos because I go out of my way to your channel thinking "hey, I wonder what the old pal is up to. Long time since last video", and there it is, your "new" video (not new anymore I guess) is here. Awesome content for a series I never actually touched. But now I wish I did!
I recently bought a used 360 and a used copy of FH1 and FM4 to go with it. Been having an absolute blast with them. The only downside is that DLC content is no longer accessible through normal means probably due to licenses expiring.
Yo, if you got a somewhat powerful pc, you can play it trough xenia at 4k 60fps. It's one of the few forza games that run almost without issues. And now that I mentioned it, some car colors have bloom issue with inspecting it in the garage. Those colors, when you get out of the garage, they look completely black iirc. I agree with you, it's a really fun game, and the warm aesthetic is kinda pleasing
My first Forza game was Forza Horizon 4. Compared to so many other popular series, the driving just felt right. I loved it so much I decided to discover the whole series, from the beginning. I bought a used copy of Forza Horizon 1, played in on my Xbox Series X. and loved it. You know a game is great when you first play it on 2 generations later hardware and it still looks great, and feels exciting and fresh. The world and cars are beautiful, and the gameplay is just so satisfying and rewarding. This game was incredible for it's time, and is still amazing now! My only regret is that I didn't try it sooner. 😊
Forza Horizon 2 was an insane game when I played it. Recently bought a copy of the 1st and it was like stepping into a time machine. The soundtrack mainly being the identity.
I really just want a studio to make a "street racing" game with proper progression, where you start with a beater and it actually takes effort to get a good car. Horizon games started losing me when I had a choice between 3 high end starter vehicles and then I did a wheel spin after a few races and got a top spec lambo less than 2 hours into my playthrough.
@@thereviewden my first street car game was Underground 2, so maybe I am just trying to chase that dragon now. Even the newer NFS you start off with a beater that spits fire and just ruins the progression feel.
My favorite game in the series. Honestly I think 1 more rival and more rallying sections in the map would have made It perfect in my opinion. But It isn't very distant from achieving perfection in my opinion.
I played Horizon 1 11 years after it came out and I liked it much more than the new ones because of the music the fell and the warm atmosphere. I ain't the one to like dubstep but I feel like more of that kind of music + EDM and rave could also fit with that type of theme compared to what we have now.
This is still my favourite Forza game to this day - the more personal tone and stakes made for a really good "summer movie" vibe throughout. I also loved FH2, but I miss the storyline and structure of the original all the same. I loved that it felt like you really earned every car. I'm not really into the "YOU'RE SO COOL, everyone loves you. Here's another 17 cars" style of the more recent games. :(
Been playing FH1 all over again on xenia and i was surprised how well balanced the game is from being a sandbox while still being a Forza game and the personality you talk about is what made it feel like an actual racing festival. FH 3,4,5 just went full on sillyness. FH1 still stands today as my favorite racing game of all time.
Horizon 1 will always be the best game in the series IMO, and that's because of the progression. The game actually makes you work for all those fancy cars, and it feels like an actual festival. The games after it lost that more and more as time went on, becoming more just sandboxes and toy around in, especially in the most recent games where they're just happy to toss supercars at you left and right and have no sense of actually progressing anywhere meaningful.
People in the Comments (pre-empting all the "Make another FH1" Type Comments that normally come with Videos like this!) , please just accept that Microsoft can never go back to FH1, FH1 was a One off! Due to the 2018 Rewrites to the Video Standards Act, the Act of Parliament (so, the Law!) that Guides the European PEGI Ratings, FH1 would be an 18 Rating Nowadays, due to the Grid Girls and the Hailey Harper Cutscene, and as I think Kylotonn (Not sure on Spelling) are about to find out to their cost, an 18 Rated Racing Game is all but *Unsellable* ! , and no way would the Car Companies, many of whom are Pressuring for a Complete Removal of the Portrayal of Illegal Street Racing in Games as it is *Crippling* their PR Images, and their Sales, in the *Vital* Chinese and Muddle Eastern Marketplaces, allow the Original Street Scene to be Re-Created! Finally, Microsoft, in 2019, also *Mandated* a PEGI 3 Rating for all Future Forza Games as a Corporate Policy, they just cannot go back to FH1. Now, it is Entirely Possible for them to go back to FH2, as that, even with the 2018 Rewrites, would *still* meet a 3 with some Music Censorship and a Re-Rendering on Ashley Stewart, (and a Removal of the Grid Girls, the FIA's Ban on them IRL could well be used to Explain their In-Lore Removal however) but it is going to Require a lot more Effort from PGG, and a Lot more Money from Microsoft, in making Proper Pre-Rendered Cutscenes again, Animating Martials and Competitors walking around on Pre Race Grids again, Bringing in Professional Voice Overs and an *actual* Screenwriter who knows how to balance the needs of an Immersive Story and Realistic Character Writing with the Very Strict Laws that Govern a PEGI 3 Rating (Meaning that you cannot really have an Antagonist like Darius again , but you can still have an Extremely Unlikable non-Antagonist Character, like Ben Green, and who better than "Superstar" ? who in terms of Sheer Smarminess, Arrogance, Condescension, and just being an Unlikable Twerp, makes even Ben Green likable by Comparison!) Hiring in an *Actual* Festival Producer (Protip: Bring back Rob Da Bank!) to design the Festival, The Race Grids (bring back the Booths) and choose the Music (as they will be able to Choose music that is actually going to be 3+ Friendly Right off the Vinyl, so no more Cutting Songs to Ribbons (and *Still* somehow missing a *Blatant* F-Bomb in "Colors" !) due to the Music Companies Forcing Utterly Profane and Unsuitable Garbage from their Latest, *Talentless* , "Girl Power band" acquisitions, onto PGG via Microsoft!) while still being absolute *Fire* , bringing back as much of FH1 and FH2's Legendary Musical Identity as the Age Rating will allow, which is still around 90% of it!) , choosing a Country that actually has something *Going for it* as a Horizon Location (Protip: Germany!) , Re-Incorporation of Actual Car Culture (like Road Trips and Car Meets) that is not going to upset the Car Companies, Making a Complete Game, like FH1 and 2, instead of Relying on a Pre-Alpha Launch and Mobile Phone Inspired "Live Services" (ugh, those should be *illegal* along with FOMO Mechanics, Lootboxes and MTX IMO!) Checklists to fill in the Rest like FH4 and 5, and to a slight extent 3, and Ensuring they Prioritize making a *Good Game* instead of beating us around the Head with "the message" like FH4 and *especially* 5 do.. But they cannot go back to FH1 I am afraid, the Law that Guides the European Age Ratings, the Car Companies, and Microsoft's own "Forza Safe Space" (Ugh!) Corporate Policy will just never allow them to. Sorry.
@@thereviewden It has gone, for better (it was Genuinely Racist (Protip: do not look up the Section on "Miscegenation" unless you want to make yourself absolutely Furious!) and that had to Go!) and for worse (when F Bombs start appearing at a PG Rating, something has gone *very wrong* In My Opinion!) , after all, the Hays-Breen Morality Code was very much "thou shalt not doeth thys regardlesse of thee ages of thy audiense" , while its now more "you can have whatever content you want, but not at the following Ratings" with Increasing Strictness the lower the Rating , it is a Fairer System, and, Is kind of needed as Games were getting out of control in terms of Content for a while (and are still out of Control in terms of Rampant Monetization sadly) so the Rewrites were needed. The Rest however is not so much the Law (which is a lot more fair than the old Hays-Breen as its more "not at this Rating" than "Not at all" like that System.) but more Microsoft wanting Maximum Sales Numbers (after all an ESRB E/PEGI 3 Rated Car Racing Title often tends to sell 100 Times more Copies than one Rated T/12) and the Car Companies increasing Reluctance (and thus resulting in a massively increased risk of License Removals) to even be in Games at all because of their PR Damage Fears regarding increasingly Vital (as new Car Sales *nosedive* in the West) but incredibly Strict and "taboo heavy" Markets in Asia and the Middle East making them become ever Stricter in what they are allowing under their Licensing Deals, to the Point some are not even allowing their Cars to be Portrayed with Dirt on them as that would Damage their PR image in Singapore were a Dirty Appearance is associated with a Dirty Mind. However, as F1 2021 and 2023 Proved, along with GRiD Legends, it is, with *very* Careful Writing, still Possible to have a Proper Story and keep an E/3 Rating (and not upset the Car Companies!) , but it needs a Professional Screenwriter (we really do not want Proper Cutscenes with the current, Awful (and not even a 3 Rating is an Excuse for it, it is just Talentless Writing and that can happen even at an 18 ("my face is tired" anyone?) normally due to Developers writing it in house rather than Hiring a Professional Screenwriter!) "Peppa Pig" Dialogue the Games are Suffering with at the moment after all) , and the question is, will Microsoft go to that, much needed, Expense? they need to IMO! they need to go back to Proper Cutscenes as in FH1 and 2, we are losing Far too much Nuance and Detail with this "Static Cutout in Engine" Stuff (as I always Say, LaRacer in FH4, if you know the Dialogue Cues, is *clearly* on the Autism Spectrum, but, if you do not know the Cues, she just comes off as Odd and Childish and Annoying, with Proper Cutscenes, Extra Nuance such as Constant Fidgeting, a Tendency to Chew the Strings on Her Hoodie, not making Eye Contact until the Last Mission, elastic "No Tie" Laces in her Boots, etc, to sell the Fact the Character is on the Spectrum, could have been added) and having Proper Cutscenes would make the Game feel more like a Game again and not just a "Fear Of Missing Out" based Chore Chart Simulator like Mike "not even a Car Enthusiast" Brown Turned it into due to wanting to make it a Live Services FOMO Chore Chart/Battle Royale Title, before he left/Possibly got given the Boot, and that needs a Proper Story to Justify the Expense in Making them! It really is Microsoft not providing enough Budget (meaning the Developers, who do not know what they are doing in some of these Regards, having to Write the Script and do the Dialogue) that is the Issue causing the Downfall of Horizon more than the Age Rating in many Cases, sure, the Age Rating does leave FH1 a One Off, but it still allows for another FH2! Even the bad Music is a case of Microsoft just allowing the Music Companies to Force their latest Trash unto them rather than Going to the Expense of hiring a Professional DJ who can choose great music that, even with the Strict Age Rating, is not going to need to be Chopped to bits, after all, Several of the Songs that came back from FH1 and 2 in 5 are Still Completely Intact! they meet the Rating! because they were chosen by a Professional DJ! and will bring back the Musical Identity that so Defined FH1. As for the Map, Doing a "Rally Adventure" and Building the Map, a-La FH1 around the Roads and Providing the best Possible Driving and Racing Experiences, and not around Battle Royale, still allowing some freedom, but with a lot more "Blocked off" Areas around the Roads via increased Scenery Verticality and more Natural obstacles, and Choosing a Location that actually Suits the Festival, would sort that out Instantly. IF Microsoft was willing to up the Budget and focus a little less on Chasing constant Gamepass Resubscriptions via FOMO, then a Lot of Horizons Recent issues could be Sorted out without Troubling the Age Rating or upsetting the Car Companies, it would not be another FH1, but it would be another FH2, and that, at least for Me (as I Preferred FH2) will more than do!
