Claudia the Doctor seems so stressed out and her nerves frayed. She takes on so much to help the patients in the Hospital. Take care Claudia, love from Australia. xoxo
I can't believe that Andiswa died. This last episode is heartbreaking. This documentary highlights the delights and challenges in modern South Africa that also affects the continent as a whole.
Adams Korir i cried so bad man, so sad she passed away cause of what she was the most scared of...may she peacefully rest and Almighty looks after her daughter and family🙏🏽 I got attached to each of them like i have grown up with them..
I was rather sad she died too. I thought the older women of her family had expressions that were very ''Maybe we've seen too much''/"There's not enough to see any more'' . How sad it was to see her talking about life at 21 speaking of the pain she felt for HIV+ people, knowing that 4 years later, she'd be dead herself and leaving behind a daughter.
I always come back for claudia comments on love, romantic relationships, and children. Shes so sharp, int3lligent young lady that at 28 she uttered those sentiments that most ppl in their 40s cant fathom. Wonder how's she doing in 2024
This episode is so sad, Andiswa's daughter will always have her mothers video through this documentary to see how a great person her mother was. May they all rest in eternal peace. Linda, Bonnie and Linda.
Claudia's her facial expressions are extremely amazing. Every word that comes out from her mouth seems to be measured, deep thinking and contemplation. She could be great actress as everything she says will be very believable!
I've watched all the way from 7-up and I have to say that this is the most interesting documentary I've ever watched. Feel to be continued to follow up with them even at 35 years. This series is absolutely amazing. And can be produced complete study, can be formulated many policies, how rightly guiding, upgrading & educating young children can built their future lives in every nation of the world. Really appreciating all those taken part its production, though I suspect not seen latter episodes two young I can’t recall their names, but used to hunt one of them, were they ended up upon growing. Well done.
I am here again, i first watched this when I was 20, today i am 28. I have a child, but as for love, i relate to Claudia alot. I am there, I am sad, like inside of me is empty, I feel empty yet living in my answered prayers. I am just living.
Broken? To me Claudia looks a bit burnt out from working long hours as a doctor and seeing all the endless suffering in Soweto, but not broken. To me she seems like an assured, highly capable person. I think it's inspiring to see how far Claudia has come, especially when you consider where she grew up. She's a great character with a great mind.
@@hlempheabielsemelane3358 To be fair, I never used to give much thought about SA. Until a few years ago, I had some personal tragedy which forced me thinking, "why all this?" And I began imagining SA history and Mandela, and wondering, Do you guys really get along. I came across this documentary on Al-Jazeera TV and it kind of confirmed everything I imagined. I'm in Nigeria, having our own Nigerian problems. Best wishes to you guys in SA. Please get along and make it work
Leanda should keep his stuff in his pants! You can't go around getting numerous women pregnant when you're very aware of your dire economic situation. Imagine how stable his life would have been if he chose to have just one child and stuck with the girl he had the child with. Man, we need to use common sense in some of these things and not put ourselves and others in tough positions. That said, this was amazing and I am glad that Patrick now has a bit more of appreciation for the comfort and relative luxury he grew up in and chose not to throw his life away but decided to return to varsity for a master's at 28. Wow, I was so thrilled to find that they filmed the shot at 38:13 at Wits Arts Museum where I currently study on the 8th floor!
Part 3 is a serious reality check and just goes to show what present day difficulties South Africa has. It was very sad seeing that Andiswa passed away. The ANC has failed its constituents. The worst part is the pseudo-change that they choose to display to the poorest people in this country and those are the people that make up a majority of their voters. What is even worse is that South Africa has world-class policies but because of BEE corruption, none of that will ever see the light of day. It is time for a change, these struggle heroes have had too much time to lie to us acting like they have our best interests at heart.
This episode is so so so sad, however it highlights the importance of education. I think the ANC should have and should put all its efforts and energies into educating people.
The ANC is putting all its efforts into lining its own pockets. State run Departments that used to make a profit are now going bankrupt because of the blatant corruption.
Such a deep, natural view of life. It is like a broken mirror; giving you glimpses of yourself here and there. I am so saddened by the heartbreaking experiences. May morning break for all of you. Looking forward to 35Up next year. Shakespeare said: All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. I wish Nobunye would return to this series. She was such a bright 7-14 year old girl, would be cool to at least hear about what she's up to these days. Also Patrick's childhood friend and the Indian girl, where are they? So many interesting people in this series, yet I can't even keep up with some of their names
One of the most interesting Documentaries i have ever watched, i've watched all from 7 up to 14, 21 till 28. Very touching. Now its like i grew up with all these people, lol. Luyanda is a real O.G, my fav. I wonder what happened to Aarty (the Indian lady) and Robert (Patricks friend). Wish u guys all the best and most importantly i hope there's a 35 UP. how does Iuyanda still earn a measly 45 dollars after 7 years?? so sad. This is a great documentary, daunting how things have not changed for many. RIP Andiswa
Saw two comments about Claudia being broken. I don't see it. Mainly because it is not there. She cares about the world around her and is actually saving lives. She's just exhausted as the rest of us. How anyone could see that as broken is beyond me.
OMG! What a journey! I have smiled, laughed and cried, living all of the emotions and struggles that these lovely people have gone through...thanks so much for the initiators of these documentaries and thanks to each of the participants for letting us grow with them. May those beautiful and attaching souls, Bonita, Linda, Shane and Andiswa, lost too soon, rest in peace🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽i have been touched by each of their stories, my tears are still falling. May the rest of the family achieve their dreams, i really can’t wait to see them next year in their 35 years.. I really love South Africa. Things will gradually get better there... Lifes so surprising and short, may ya all be blessed. Amen🙏🏽
oooo nkosi watching this humbles me ......not much has changed to the lives of our black ppl life for luyanda is still as harsh i hope we do get to see him in the next series they so much death surrounding his life
It is indeed a great documentary, makes one reflect in own life. The system is really unequal, some with some with so much, and others with none. Education is the key, educated people are able to make better choices
What type of education though? The non whites that were able to turn it around at some point had to move to a white school or predominantly white school or area. Obviously the systems that serve both communities are vastly different and offer a different trajectory in life. It is as clear as day, they are all born on a train, but the tracks don't lead to the same place.
@@sylviasworld9397 yes if youre non-white you can go into government and cream off everyones taxes and money and live like an absolute king whilst threatening and brutalising any opposition, ie: become a 'black diamond'. For the whites all the govt programmes and assistance are engineered against them whilst they are the No. 1 target of racial violence. Corruption being what it is.. unless one can educate their hearts or educate morality into people then Im not sure how more education would help.
After I watched these episodes 7 yrs ago it left something in my mind concerning andiswa’s life…… The very things she fears most took her life…… till now I still can’t shake that thing off
Awwwn still waiting for 35 up and saddened that Andiswa passed away cuz of the disease she was the most afraid of😥😥😥 I can't wait to see what the rest of the band has become
In 7Up, Claudia was so outgoing and talkative. But as they made more films, I noticed that she seemed less confident. I hope now that she is living more happily. Also, RIP to Andiswa, Shane, Linda, and Bonita.
'completely destroyed the magic', are you serious? She's just evolved. I see plenty of magic in Claudia's eyes and demeanour. How many 28 year old doctors do you know who AREN'T exhausted by the pressure that is put on them, regardless of what country they are working in? I wouldn't be so quick to pass judgement on someone you've never met.
Such a telling documentary. As a white kid in SA who grew up in 80/90s this shows how incredibly limiting the landscape was for black people - the sheer struggle - the heartache. I don’t live in SA anymore - is it much different now?
I think she's burnt out, noone tells you how hectic being a health worker is until you are there in the field. Like it can really change your world view in my opinion, overworking, shortage of staff, high demand, long hours, lack of resources. Overtime that can drain who you are as a person, your thought process its just hectic. She looks very exhausted!
These people are my age, I see my life through theirs and it hurts a lot to see it in that sense. I am broken with how HIV/AIDS is eating away at lives, my own sister also passed on at age 30 from the desease. I am sad sad sad ...so much so that I am not eager to see 35UP because I fear seeing more sadness, it will break me
This series is very interesting and very different from the uk and american series. Amazing to see the ups and downs of these peoples lives. Crazy how for some of them things change but still stay the same. My favourite has got to be claudia as she is so smart , beautiful and has a really great insight i think. You can still see that bright 7 year old inside just with a measured exterior now. I look forward to see what they are up to next. Cheers
These documentary has shown how poverty blocks opportunities and shutters dreams. For a black person, if its not talent the cycle of poverty is almost impossible to overcome. Even with education, its about 'networking'. But if your not rich, how do you 'network' with influential people in positions to also place you there? The system really is anti black, in all aspects
very nice documentary. am actually inspired and challenged. am waiting for 35up in 2020. and btw i haven't seen four characters in 28 up; the chiefs daughter, claudias colored friend, the colored jewish girl and Patrick's friend

@@Naphstyles Hey man, this show is based off of a British show called 7up! that started in the 60s and is still going now with the same people (and same director, who is now in his 80s). All the kids from the episode in the 60s are now in their mid 60s themselves. Really great series.
This great documentary reechoes the fact that South Africa's negotiated settlement and its transition to democracy reads like a modem fairy tale. Economic "apartheid" has continued to depress the quality of life of the common people
A week away from the elections and all that comes to mind is that the ANC has failed the masses and will continue to do so for as long as they maintain their policies ! There’s so much empathy and hope and faith that only South Africans have amid all that we’ve gone through and the anc who’s been put in charge to make changes , have failed beyond compare !
There are so many people in the comments misjudging Claudia. Saying that she is broken or no longer as cheery as she was at 7... sigh. People evolve!! We are only seeing snippets of these people's lives, so don't be so quick to make armchair assessments on how they turned out. Claudia seems full of heart and soul, albeit a bit overworked, as many doctors all over the world are.
I always want to hear what Claudia is gonna say. But I feel she took the world a little serious and personal. Definitely things are gonna get messy. not lively, not loving. Just hope she's gonna come out stronger next series.
brenda gandawa Exactly and ppl want to blame the white man and apartheid. In this day we need to demand that politicians (most of whom are our own ppl) be held accountable.
if you really listen to these people, you might see that the problem runs much deeper. It's a cultural issue, the greatest politician (like Mandela) can't change a culture. South Africa isn't broken, it's just late (compare to other region of the world). I believe they will catch up, but it might take centuries to change things like values, believes (like it did in Europe).
Oh, and i have to say this: ANC, look at your country! These were your youths. They were so bright when they were 7, so full of dreams..but the environment has made life so hard for them. Wake up! You can't bring to your grave the riches you steal from your countrymen. Sad that Mandela and his vision is forgotten history.
What I learnt this documentary is that words you said could have influence in you. Frans said he's poor and struggle at age 7 but still he's same. Lizzete didn't like black people still She hates black people l. Cloudia didn't want marriage still she doesn't. Andwiswa scared HIV but died from HIV aids. Man words matters let's hope good to get good.
Gripping series. The South African version has a much different feel than the English one because it really highlights the crime and wealth disparities in South Africa. The suffering these people have endured is astonishing, poor or not. Zepo (Sepo? Guy who tried to shoot himself) has had one of the hardest lives of them all from what I can see. I have really enjoyed their stories and hope they all stay strong, looking forward to seeing them in two years. RIP to the kids already gone.
*Tshepo It's so disheartening it makes one really question what the point of living is. I think seeing the hardships is bearable since some of us come from such backrounds but to hear of their deaths just tore me apart.

@@qoako9695 that is just so sad. i rewatched 21up and they just talked of Kashans friend who opted out of the show. but very very sad
@@Naphstyles there is part two of 21 up. Its not on UA-cam but on the Al Jazeera site. Search for it o Google
@@LindoMchunu I look for it. That series is extra ordinary. Whoever came with its concept is a genius
@@Naphstyles Hey man, this show is based off of a British show called 7up! that started in the 60s and is still going now with the same people (and same director, who is now in his 80s). All the kids from the episode in the 60s are now in their mid 60s themselves. Really great series.
All such brave honest souls
poor Tshepo dropping out of school as CHILD
and end up being a security manager . THE PLIGHT OF BLACK PEOPLE IN SOUTH AFRICA ITS HURT BREAKING
but that is what he said he wanted to be.... a security manager
@@theomaluleke6793 A lawyer, With a Security Guard Discription 😆
This great documentary reechoes the fact that South Africa's negotiated settlement and its transition to democracy reads like a modem fairy tale. Economic "apartheid" has continued to depress the quality of life of the common people
A week away from the elections and all that comes to mind is that the ANC has failed the masses and will continue to do so for as long as they maintain their policies !
There’s so much empathy and hope and faith that only South Africans have amid all that we’ve gone through and the anc who’s been put in charge to make changes , have failed beyond compare !
I wanted to cry when Claudia spoke, what happened to that little girl? Where did her spark go?
Too much suffering in this world. RIP Andiswa
Claudia is really beautiful
Wow! The wealth disparities are just saddening.
Andibuhlungu hearing the news of uAndiswa💔
Lala ngoxolo🙏🏾
Andiswa's death crushed me
Andiswa's story was heartbreaking, and the music was beautiful. Does anybody know the name of it?
There are so many people in the comments misjudging Claudia. Saying that she is broken or no longer as cheery as she was at 7... sigh. People evolve!! We are only seeing snippets of these people's lives, so don't be so quick to make armchair assessments on how they turned out. Claudia seems full of heart and soul, albeit a bit overworked, as many doctors all over the world are.
I always want to hear what Claudia is gonna say. But I feel she took the world a little serious and personal. Definitely things are gonna get messy. not lively, not loving. Just hope she's gonna come out stronger next series.
Politicians where are you. You must this Up things and Up your game too. This is sad!
brenda gandawa
Exactly and ppl want to blame the white man and apartheid.
21:13 thixo somandla 😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭
Oh, and i have to say this: ANC, look at your country! These were your youths. They were so bright when they were 7, so full of dreams..but the environment has made life so hard for them. Wake up! You can't bring to your grave the riches you steal from your countrymen. Sad that Mandela and his vision is forgotten history.
I wish happiness for Claudia, she's an amazing woman
RIP Andiswa, this is heartbreaking
Andiswa 😔😩🥺😢😭😭😭
Rest in Peace Andiswa. What a soul 💔
Nice and sad at the same time
What I learnt this documentary is that words you said could have influence in you.
Frans said he's poor and struggle at age 7 but still he's same.
Lizzete didn't like black people still She hates black people l.
Cloudia didn't want marriage still she doesn't.
Andwiswa scared HIV but died from HIV aids.
Man words matters let's hope good to get good.
Look in the bright side, Lizette's childhood sweetheart isn't a racist anymore.
South African men and infidelity, absentee fathers and so on, it's painful.
Reality, is sad! so sad.
being a teacher got me here! LOL!
Show your kids this documentary. Teachers are a big part of the solution.
Is it just me or does Claudia have a slight resemblance to Sophie Okonedo.
Themisunderstood raven yes omg
Very true..They look so much alike
