- Rufus Wainwright is the acclaimed singer-songwriter known for his profound lyrics and catchy pop hooks, but eight years ago he dropped everything to focus on writing his own opera. Now, he's releasing his first pop album since 2012. He joined Tom Power to talk about his big return and how fatherhood has changed the way he makes music.

One of Canada's most talented singers/songwriters/musicians. Rufus has not gotten the recognition he truly deserves. His ability to break the mold and create from his artistic core is unparalleled. From his very first album in 1998 to 2020, he is as relevant, as creative, as artful as ever. Proud to have seen him perform Want One, Want Two and a solo Songs for Lulu. Would travel far and wide to see him perform Unfollow The Rules.
His music is unique.Noone can match him, his voice, melodies and arrangements.
Best songwriter in the Universe in my opinion😊
He is in the same league as Lennon, mccartney and Stevie wonder. He is magical.
Certainly one of them
I love that you asked him about melody. I don't hear people talk about melody near enough.
Voice like honey..., Ive always loved Rufus Wainwright. His talent has held my hand through many tough times.
Agreed, Poses is such a comfort song for me
I'm just getting into Rufus. Interesting interview! He's getting better with age. To the mainstream audience, a bit of a hidden treasure.
Just saw him in Tarrytown,NY. Amazing singer and musician.
Some years ago (approx. 18) I owned a health food store in downtown Lakewood NJ and a man and woman walked in who didn't fit my usual clientele (orthodox Jews), so I asked them what they were doing in Lakewood. It was Rufus and a woman in the band and he told me they were performing down the road at the Strand Theater and before he left he asked me if I would like to go see them. I had never heard of him but did know his fathers music so I had know idea what to expect. I went to the concert and was blown away by a style of music that I had never heard before. I ended up buying all of his CD;s which I listened to all of the time and treasured. So that being said he is my claim to fame besides meeting Bruce Springsteen at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park when my cover band was performing back in the 70's.
Talento immenso! Unico musicista completo di questo secolo! Magnificent voice! Fabulous performer! Grazie di esistere Rufus!
And he’s aging so well!
Love this! 💜💯
What a interesting guy to listen to.
Q - who are you? I'm just discovering you (Rufus) & looking through your list of interview choices & thinking, "How am I just now discovering Q?" I'm excited to deep dive!
His voice is like a song bird.
Agree. All his covers are better than the original versions imo.
Can't stand far left CBC, but this was a lovely interview!
