I think the Tattoo got popular because one of the uke kids (Grace Vandervaal perhaps) showed up on America's Got Talent with one so, everyone wants what she's got. I've seen reviews of the Tattoo that said that the tuners weren't great. Also, if you cut huge chunks out of the top, like on the Tattoo, you're going to take something away from the sound. The 323 is probably closer to the Tattoo sound wise than the 325 but I'd say that both Flights are better value for money. If you buy a uke on sound alone, you may grow to like the looks, if you buy a uke based on looks alone, you're more likely to grow to hate the sound.

I think that they are both all laminate. They both have zebrawood back and sides (presumably it's called that because of the stripes) but the top is different - the 325 has a spruce laminate top and the 323 has a mahogany laminate top. This makes a difference to the sound - the spruce type top has a lighter brighter sound and the mahogany type has a more mellow middle range sound. To me they both sound nice for what they are - if you go for light and bright , some people would say that the sound was a bit thin (like the NUS he played in the video, which is sapele laminate -it sounded very thin to me but I think the NUS would improve with good strings) but, if you go for the mahogany type, some might say it was a bit muddy - so, it's a question of which sound you prefer. Listen to them both in the video and you'll hear the difference. I don't know anything about ukuleles but I've literally just got a 325 which is sat on my lap now. I played about half a dozen instruments around that price range and I asked the guy in the shop to give them to me one at a time in random order and I played them with my eyes closed so I didn't know what I was playing - the 325 stood out as being different - it was light but had some depth. Similarly, the 323 has depth but it's clear. if you like the thicker sound of the 323 then that's easy to find at this price range so, if you can't find a 323, you'll find something else that suits you sound wise. The lighter spruce type tone seems to be in favour with top players. Personally, I wouldn't go for a light coloured top from a looks point of view and I don't like the decoration around the sound hole -i prefer plain or a good old fashioned abalone rosette, but the 325 spoke to me .
