Much better contrast that typical LCD IPS and no IPS glow, perfect! Edit. I took tft central icc profile and settings which are panel native calibrated to srgb an did change gamma3 (higher gamma) and increased the brightness for my taste, excellent
Thank you for the review and the various settings. I recently bought this magnificent monitor, after calibrating it to perfection I was going crazy because I saw horizontal lines on a blue background or when you highlight a text. The problem was caused by the ''lag input low'' osd option enabled.
Using this with DisplayHDR, medium local dimming, and on W1 (calibrated with the hdr app on the store). Black levels seem crushed as hell, I was watching Edge of Tomorrow HDR and in some of the dark scenes towards the end were just impossible to discern what was going on whereas it wasn't like that without HDR. Any suggestions?
The same thing happens to me . I see it much better by simply turning the brightness up to 100 and Local Dimming to strong, with HDR turned off. If I turn HDR on, everything looks more grayish/foggy.
@@GottaEvil I found that HDR seems to look perfect if I don't enable HDR in Windows and let my video player (MPV) activate HDR on the monitor when opening HDR video files. Windows will be very dim, but movies look right. If I turn on HDR in Windows and make the appropriate adjustments, dark content made for HDR is too dark. Really peculiar.
I can't, because it shouldn't and didn't on my unit. Well it was slightly warm I guess, ~6000K but your eyes should adjust to that pretty readily. So maybe there's a calibration issue on yours where it's even warmer or perhsaps you're used to a significantly cooler SDR colour temperature than 6500K. At any case you should give your eyes good time to adjust, you can't adjust the colour channels under HDR to compensate.
Did you ever find a solution to this? I have the same problem with this screen. Where only sRGB mode seems to fix this over saturation. That's the way a monitor at this price should perform tho...

Do I have to go into windows 11 display settings and turn on the USE HDR button? Do I have to manually turn on HDR in the monitor settings every time I want to play a game that supports HDR or will it auto select depending on the game? I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me, even if it is pointing me to another youtube video that explains all of this. Thanks!
First of all you should calibrate the monitor in HDR mode with the ''windows HDR calibration'' app, after that I recommend that you load an ICC profile to use it in SDR mode. You can now toggle between HDR/SDR with Win+Alt+B
Hi! Underrated channel and review, thanks. I just bought this monitor, and I think I have a working sRGB emulation mode. The colors look properly muted and how its supposed to be. However, now the entire monitor have this kind of "grey fog" over it. Comparing it to my laptop screen and my oled TV, it doesnt look like that is supposed to look like that. Any tips on how to get rid of it? Either tuning some option while in sRGB mode, or changing to panel native? I am not a fan of oversaturated colors though, which is why I would prefer sRGB.
Are you sure you don't have HDR active on your system and are viewing SDR content? Could be some other setting that was activated without you realising, if not. If in doubt do a factory reset of the monitor in the OSD.
@@PCMonitors Thanks for the answer! I dont have HDR enabled. And all the other settings are default, other than sGRB being enabled and having brightness at 25. So it seems what I'm seeing is not expected? I should clarify the "grey-fog" is not as bad as the case you describe as when having HDR active, but it is there, and it is distracting. Maybe a bad unit? How would I know if what I'm seeing is indeed "bad"? Is it possible it is the amount of red in the default warm color settings thats causing it? Since having your user color settings (at panel native), does not have the weird "grey fog".
I'd recommend trying an alternative method of sRGB emulation and avoiding using the setting on the monitor. Could be badly calibrated on your unit - pcmonitors.info/articles/taming-the-wide-gamut-using-srgb-emulation/.

It could simply be that you're used to the oversaturated SDR representation. HDR is more toned down, per the review. You could try boosting Nvidia Digital Vibrance a bit if you want.
@@PCMonitors that's something I've certainly considered. I've had a great HDR mini led tv for movies but I've spent years with an IPS monitor with the weak hdr400 spec so I never turned it on. It's likely that I'm just not used to accurate colors in games yet.
Thanks for sharing your settings. My screen is darker on the right side and I can see it too on your screen at 5:55? Could you or anyone else who owns this monitor confirm, please?
That's primarily because of the position of the camera. If you adjust your own viewing position and sit further from the screen this effect should also diminish. There can be additional luminance uniformity issues at play, which vary between individual units.

Hi.. i bought this monitor for xbox series x.. i wil try it tomorrow.. couldyou suggest best settings for gaming on console? i didn't understand if i have advantage using game mode or if the best way to play hdr game is display hdr and local dimming on strong
Why is game mode set to off? My PS5 doesn't recognize VRR and that's one of the reasons I bought this monitor. I've heard that turning it on might make the PS5 recognize VRR compatibility...?
'Game Mode' is a set of (generally poor) presets, as covered in the video. Probably greyed out because you're using HDR. The PS5 doesn't "recognize VRR" because the monitor doesn't have HDMI 2.1 and the PS5 doesn't support Adaptive-Sync, which the monitor uses exclusively for VRR.
The pixel response performance is explored in detail in the review, including subjective examples from similar scenes to what you'd see in an RPG. I'd recommend watching it.
Hey there, I own this monitor and notice that I have some frame stuttering in HDR when I'm navigating through my browser, any ideas what it could be? My browser is Brave and my GPU is an AMD Radeon RX 7900xtx if that helps.
hey bro dunno if u have figured it out but it only applies when you play a game that supports 120hz. make sure u have the right in game settings and then it should go black for a sec and switch to 120hz and u should see it update in the screen and vid settings
Do you know if it is possible to send the screen to AOC to get the firmware issue fixed on the bk version. Or have you heard about someone elses experience with them regarding this?
@@kallepelle Which firmware issue are you referring to? I don't think it's possible to update firmware on this model and not something they'd do, but might be worth asking AOC anyway.
It was a real shame. I actually didn't know about AOC monitors in particular. Only bought it because it was so cheap & always fun to try something new you haven't had before. Thanks for all your videos. You are probably the first person I know who divides your videos in such detail about 1 product. Please keep it up!
Hello, thanks for the video, it is appreciated. On my unit if I don't set the shadow control to 40 I see everything too clear, in games I would say no, but in Windows or browsing yes. I didn't see it so clearly in your video, could it be because of my unit or is it something normal? Thank you!
It could be because of the gamma calibration of your unit (assuming you're not feeding it a 'Limited Range' signal - pcmonitors.info/articles/correcting-hdmi-colour-on-nvidia-and-amd-gpus/ )
@@PCMonitors And another and last question, in HDR mode the screen turns yellowish and becomes lighter, I see that in normal mode it looks better and with more color than in HDR, I have tried it on PC and on the PS5. Could this also be due to the cable? Thank you!
No, that's due to how it's calibrated not the cable. The colour temperature of my unit was ~6000K (a bit warm) under HDR. As for the "more color" under SDR, that's because things are oversaturated as covered in the review.
The settings recommended here can be used on any system - for HDR the defaults are used anyway. It's just the Local Dimming setting which you need to set to your own preferences.
Give them a go and see how you find them. But per the video introduction, individual units and preferences vary. There's no such thing as "best settings" for a particular game, really.
@@smoothhansen If you own an Nvidia GPU, easiest way is simply to increase Nvidia Digital Vibrance. Or using the Windows HDR Calibration tool there's an option at the end that will allow you to slightly boost saturation.
I think you're referring to running HDR in an SDR environment, which I don't recommend in general. But if you need to do that or want to do that then it's entirely down to your personal preference. But remember that's a digital brightness slider and adjustments can negatively affect contrast.
@@PCMonitors I was just reading somewhere that the BK has issues with its firmware. I think this is why the srgb/dci options dont do anything. Not sure if there's any other issues.
No - haven't reviewed it and won't be doing so. LG doesn't have anything resembling a PR team in the UK who could provide a sample and there's not enough interest in it to justify a self-purchase.
Dear author, great review! I've been using this monitor for 2 months now! good monitor! but I don't like its coating. I see myself on the screen when there is artificial lighting. Isn't this a matte finish??
@user-ln1yg1ie7l The matte surfaces you're used to are stronger, likely 'medium' (or 'light'). There are advantages to a lighter matte surface as well, as covered in the review. I'd suggest seeing if you can adjust your lighting environment if you have light striking the screen directly. Regardless of screen surface, it's best to try to avoid this as you're either going to have reflections, sharper glare patches or diffused light competing with the image.
The monitor doesn't use PMM - would've been mentioned if used, but like with most monitors now it uses DC dimming. It might use very high frequency low amplitude oscillation, but that's not the same as PWM at all and shouldn't cause issues even if you're sensitive to PWM.
My monitor came 24 inches, but looks identical to the normal monitor and still has the same specs? is yours also 24 inches? should I get a refund? it still says its the same model but it is not 27 inches and I am confused
Not really an 'IPS version", it's a completely different product. And no and no plans to do so. TotallyDubbedHD took a look at it and wasn't too impressed really, my own recommendation(s) in that segment are clear - pcmonitors.info/articles/best-gaming-monitors/.
This is covered in the review. You can't "solve this" except by stabilising frame rate or disabling VRR. It's an inherent limitation of the panel used. You may be able to offset it by reducing brightness as much as possible and adjusting room lighting so it's less noticeable.
@@PCMonitors Thanks, unfortunately frame rate was as stable as it gets with smooth frame timing but the flickers were still there. I guess no G-sync then. Interesting I heard even OLED monitors suffer from this which go for several times the price that of the AOC. Panel is great but G-sync without flickers should be an option even on a low end monitor let alone a mid range one.
@@Szabjack In certain FPS ranges even very small fluctuations can cause flickering on VA models like this, unfortunately. Or, potentially, even if it sits at a certain frame rate which it "doesn't like". It's less noticeable on OLED models as it is only triggered in an obvious way with larger fluctuations and is only visible for darker and medium-dark shades. But it is indeed a key issue which I'd like to see solved.
@@Szabjack What do you mean by "I guess no G-sync then"? Is it only related to nvidia gpu's when vrr is enabled? If vrr is enabled on amd gpu's does the problem go away?

Why is game mode set to off? My PS5 doesn't recognize VRR and that's one of the reasons I bought this monitor. I've heard that turning it on might make the PS5 recognize VRR compatibility...?
'Game Mode' is a set of (generally poor) presets, as covered in the video. Probably greyed out because you're using HDR. The PS5 doesn't "recognize VRR" because the monitor doesn't have HDMI 2.1 and the PS5 doesn't support Adaptive-Sync, which the monitor uses exclusively for VRR.
i don`t have displayHDR sitting, on this model , and if use HDR i have all screen bugged what is it?
It isn't receiving an HDR signal if you can't see the kind of settings shown in the video.
@@PCMonitors what i can do with it? i can use onli game/vidi and video hdr in settings monitor but in windows 11 i cant turn it on
thx for sharing,its useful
Why is my color setup, picture boost blocked??
Perhaps because you're running the monitor in HDR?
hows black smearing on rpg games like witcher 3, rdr2 and the like? does it have ghosting noticeable?
The pixel response performance is explored in detail in the review, including subjective examples from similar scenes to what you'd see in an RPG. I'd recommend watching it.
@@PCMonitors does it have vrr flicker bad?
@@cirillafiona-f2f You need to watch the review, this is covered.
Is SRGB in BK version not working a problem? And red colors/tint?
It depends if you want to use sRGB emulation. As covered in the review there are alternatives you can use to achieve that on the GPU level.
i just set mine up but I can’t turn on game mode for my ps5.. what am I missing ?
Probably because you're running in HDR.
Hey there, I own this monitor and notice that I have some frame stuttering in HDR when I'm navigating through my browser, any ideas what it could be? My browser is Brave and my GPU is an AMD Radeon RX 7900xtx if that helps.
I forgot to mention that it's not just browser but also general tasks, but it seems to be input related since videos work fine.
How do i adjust the sharpness of the monitor using the Computer please
You can't (outside of changing resolution and suchlike).
How is the blooming with local dimming? Dark scenes movies/games with some light sources.
Covered in the review.
Thanks for the review, must have missed it.
Thanks :)
hey it doesnt let me change the refresh rate from 60 on the monitor itself (im on ps5 rn)
hey bro dunno if u have figured it out but it only applies when you play a game that supports 120hz. make sure u have the right in game settings and then it should go black for a sec and switch to 120hz and u should see it update in the screen and vid settings
Can you have different setting profiles and quickly switch between them?
Not on this monitor, the OSD is a bit restrictive in that respect.
How do I know if I've got the BK version or not and what is the difference between the bk and the non bk version?
The stand base is either black ('BK') or it is dark silver.
Okay, thanks!
How do i apply sharpness in the meny?
You can't, as usual for AOC monitors there's no sharpness control.
@@PCMonitors Thanks for answering me.
I'll take a look at the article, I'll comment on anything here in case it happens to anyone else.
Thanks, again!
@@PCMonitors Okay perfect! Thank you so much for help me
Do you know why I can only change about half these settings is it because I’m using this monitor with just a console connected?
Did you check the HDR section and see if it lines up with what you're seeing? It's probably because you're using HDR on the system.
@@PCMonitors I’ll check tmr when I’m up please reply back once I let you know🤝
@@PCMonitors do you think I should leave settings as is on the monitor if I have hdr on the console or should I try to apply these either way
The settings recommended here can be used on any system - for HDR the defaults are used anyway. It's just the Local Dimming setting which you need to set to your own preferences.
hi. is ithis the best setting for playing counter strike?
Give them a go and see how you find them. But per the video introduction, individual units and preferences vary. There's no such thing as "best settings" for a particular game, really.
What is the difference between the BK and non-BK models?
Regional variation. BK = Black Stand base, mainly sold in EU (the non-BK has a dark silver base).
@@PCMonitors Thanks a lot. I just got it today. Great monitor!
Is there a way to increase the saturation slightly in HDR mode?
@@smoothhansen If you own an Nvidia GPU, easiest way is simply to increase Nvidia Digital Vibrance. Or using the Windows HDR Calibration tool there's an option at the end that will allow you to slightly boost saturation.
what SDR content brightness do you recommend?
I think you're referring to running HDR in an SDR environment, which I don't recommend in general. But if you need to do that or want to do that then it's entirely down to your personal preference. But remember that's a digital brightness slider and adjustments can negatively affect contrast.
What's the difference between BK and non-BK version?
The stand is black on the 'BK' version (which is what 'BK' stands for) and silver on the non-BK version. It's just a regional difference.
@@PCMonitors I was just reading somewhere that the BK has issues with its firmware. I think this is why the srgb/dci options dont do anything. Not sure if there's any other issues.
That issue is covered in the review, but I'm not aware of any other specific issues.
Is there a 'freesync flickering' problem on this monitor?
I'd recommend referring to the review, this is covered.
@@PCMonitors i dont understand english voice :( i use google translate
It has 'VRR flickering', which is normal for a VA monitor. It doesn't have an extreme amount of it, might not be a problem for you.
Can you also make the best settings in video for this monitor? 27GR83Q-B
No - haven't reviewed it and won't be doing so. LG doesn't have anything resembling a PR team in the UK who could provide a sample and there's not enough interest in it to justify a self-purchase.
Hi man i just bought it. Is there an option to change the brightness while in hdr mode ?
What does the video show and say?
@@PCMonitors that you can't...
Right - only if local dimming is disabled, which you definitely don't want to do. 🙂
@@PCMonitors Kinda sucks. Using it without hdr is pointless - guess thats what for I bought miniled, but at night with hdr on it is too bright.
Do these work for games
They're applicable for any use (including gaming). They're used as the 'Test Settings' in the review which includes a significant gaming focus.
@ Ty
Dear author, great review! I've been using this monitor for 2 months now! good monitor! but I don't like its coating. I see myself on the screen when there is artificial lighting. Isn't this a matte finish??
Yes, per the review it is 'light to very light' matte.
@@PCMonitors I had a lot of matte monitors, but I didn’t see my reflection there like in this model, especially in dark scenes
@@PCMonitors thank you very much for the advice!! I wish you more subscribers! Good luck!
For me the only normal mode is game settings fps. Only here we see white, normal white, and not gray.
Thx for the review.
What's about PWM?
Im quite sensitive to it (((
The monitor doesn't use PMM - would've been mentioned if used, but like with most monitors now it uses DC dimming. It might use very high frequency low amplitude oscillation, but that's not the same as PWM at all and shouldn't cause issues even if you're sensitive to PWM.
@@PCMonitors much appreciated
hey just got this monitor but the 180hz option isn't showing on my display settings
How have you connected it and what GPU are you using?
with hdmi and i have 7700xt@@PCMonitors
@@crisisakagodThere's your problem. Per the review you need to use DP for 180Hz.
@@crisisakagod u need to use DP not HDMI. so u can use 180HZ
@@PCMonitorsI have the same problem, but have a RTX 4070, and use HDMI, so do I switch
Should I buy it for 350$? It's kinda expensive in my region
It's your money so your decision. I'd still recommend it at that price.
does this monitor come with DisplayPort cable in the package?
It should, yes. But could vary depending on retailer and region.
My monitor came 24 inches, but looks identical to the normal monitor and still has the same specs? is yours also 24 inches? should I get a refund? it still says its the same model but it is not 27 inches and I am confused
This is a 27" monitor and there is no 24" "version" of this monitor.
color setup is greyed out on my AOC....
do you tried the q27g4x the ips version?! not the mini led
Not really an 'IPS version", it's a completely different product. And no and no plans to do so. TotallyDubbedHD took a look at it and wasn't too impressed really, my own recommendation(s) in that segment are clear - pcmonitors.info/articles/best-gaming-monitors/.
I'm getting terrible VRR brightness flicker with G-sync. If anyone had solved this on their model please let me know.
@@PCMonitors Appreciate the insights. I'm surprised VRR flicker is still a thing on new monitors these days.
@@Szabjack What do you mean by "I guess no G-sync then"? Is it only related to nvidia gpu's when vrr is enabled? If vrr is enabled on amd gpu's does the problem go away?
why aoc don't create monitor 24" VA matrix with resolution 2500x1440 ?
Nobody makes a 24" 2560 x 1440 VA panel.
Why does enabling HDR in windows make it so dark? HDR is dumb.
Ordered one but it is on Chinese lol I need this video XD
Is there any way to reduce the HDR brightness? It looks way too bright for me in certain content, especially on windows.
Only if you disable local dimming.
