I noticed something today that I haven't picked up on before. The way you look at each other as one is speaking. I went back and scanned through some of your other videos and saw the same thing. The respect and admiration that you have for each other comes through in the body language and ways you look when it's your turn to be silent. Gospel love. Thabnk you for that added element that I saw today.

As I have found a way of eating that actually supports my health that has incorporated more “do” elements of the word of wisdom, my spirituality has just exploded and I have never been closer to God then where I am now. It’s truly incredible! I have a testimony of the power in the Word of Wisdom. It’s the most underrated element in increasing our spiritual capacities!

I have watched this a number of times now. It is a long presentation but that doesn't matter, this presentation answered alot of my own questions. I feel hopeful about something I was struggling with for some time. I think this lesson will help so many who are struggling with unhealthy habits and physical body and mental challenges. It may not solve problems immediately, but I do believe many will be able to look at their own challenges and gain valuable insight on how they can approach these challenges. I love what Bro Griffin said about going back to the manufacturer of the body, and asking the creator for help on how to be a better caretaker. I also love what Bro Ludlow shared about the different stories in the Apocrypha. I am really looking forward to reading it. Thank you for a fantastic lesson, I fully enjoyed every word ♥️.

I love that the Lord allows for all circumstances. For example when it comes to meat I choose not to eat because I interpret those lines in the revelation as "meat is for the use of man but God likes it when we don't eat meat unnecessarily". In places in the far north where crops don't grow as easily or in desert, the consumption of meat is important. In my circumstance I don't need it. My husband interprets the revelation differently to me too. I think if you are prayerful and considerate and are good to your body then you're probably doing the right thing for you. It has only been recently that we have been in a financial position to be able to buy produce from farmers markets in season, which is good for the body, but I didn't consider that we weren't living the word of wisdom before because our circumstance was such that fresh seasonal food was not available to us. The Lord is wise and we cannot expect something like the word of wisdom to be made a blanket commandment to be lived a certain way for all saints. We live in a world wide church! Let's not judge others but be mindful of our own journey with it!

What a beautiful way to describe the WOW! They describe it as it was intended by Father. He knows us and how we were made. We are each created differently with different needs. I can’t drink or eat dairy… some of my children have the same thing. So we avoid it… yet my other children love dairy… I don’t demand they stop it… that it’s bad for them just because it’s bad for me. It’s up to them to decide whether or not to consume it.
I have a daughter who doesn’t consume meat… yet she doesn’t demand her siblings do the same. It’s a decision that’s made between Father and each one of his children. I can not digest beef, yet I can digest chicken and fish.. I counsel with my Father on the way He wants me to eat that is best for my body.
Addiction can also be eating too much at a sitting… or consuming needlessly any food product. When I was pregnant with my first child I craved Chinese food lol… endlessly… but I also realized that it became an addiction…
We need to spend less time demanding that people follow what we as individuals believe the WOW to be, and spend more time encouraging people to go to their HF and counsel with Him as to how best to fuel their body. We would be a more happier people regarding the WOW… just say’in 😉

I always thought of the part where it says it's adapted to the capacity of the weak meant that "anyone can do this." Then I heard a sacrament meeting talk one time that changed my perspective. Maybe some of us would be able to handle the things restricted in the Word of Wisdom, but the commandment is given to protect those who would not be able to handle it. It is given to all to accommodate the weakest of saints and protect them.

Beginning in the fall of 2006, I have followed pretty closely the prescriptive advice given in verses 10-18 of Section 89, and I have had enormous health benefits from doing so. What has been most gratifying to me has been watching the science begin to catch up to this marvelous revelation given in 1833. Thousands of studies over the last 40-50 years have demonstrated the healthy benefits of eating the way the Lord outlines in Section 89, including what is "pleasing to me" as He says in verse 13. As to the proscriptive counsel given in the revelation, the simplest rule of thumb is: Is this substance addictive? If so, avoid it. By and large, our Adventist friends live the Word of Wisdom much better than we LDS do.

    • @windigo44
      @windigo44 3 роки тому +2

Do you discriminate between substances that are psychologically addictive vs. chemically addictive? They are separate neurochemical phenomena. The full question wasn't addressed in the presentation. "Addiction" is a slippery term. I agree completely re the Adventists. They are more serious about it. The proof is in the pudding.

@@luvtocook6881 Do you have faith in Jesus Christ? Do you pray for strength? Do you give all your burdens over to the Lord? Do you repent? Do you pray for deliverance? Do you have faith that all these things will heal you? Your body is made to heal itself, that means through and through. It can be healed through Jesus Christ. If it is His will, and His purpose. That was one of the purposes of his death that the Lord Jesus Christ would heal us if we would let him. He told us all to take of his yoke because his yoke is easy. Once you learn to give it( all) to him, then you can be healed. Then only then you can have peace and strength to overcome all things. Let his will be done and not your will. I will promise you he will heal you mentally physically and spiritually. Repentance is a big factor and humbling yourself. Repentance is the key to happiness and joy , it is the secret to real life. If we all could get rid of pride he could heals all of us a lot quicker. That is just simple math even the universe obeys the laws of God. We all heard the phrase what goes around comes around, that is the law of the universe set in motion. I'm sure I am not telling you something that you don't already know it is only a reminder to even myself included. This is the way it is , it is our choice to open the door to heaven and never think your tears or in vain because they are not. Every tear is counted by the Angels we might call them sometimes. The Heaven shakes and trembles and cheering for you because you chose the right path! I only tell you what has helped me and my rough journey of life. My rough Journey matters no more to me or anyone else at this time. God can always make bad things that happened into good things for each of us, because he is the one and only savior of the world!

@@leswalker2639 please do not attack me.. you have no idea what my life is like, nor do you know of the times HF has healed me, and has saved me moments from death in front of medical staff on several occasions. As well as loved ones.
There are times when we are required to walk through illness and because we do HF sanctifies it for our good. How do I know this? Because He told me so in a blessing given to me by a Patriarch,. He told me that because I must go through this I would also receive other sacred blessings.
Please don’t tell me to repent when you know nothing of me. If you knew me you would never say those things to me. I have seen things that allow me to testify that we have living Heavenly Parents, and a Saviour Jesus Christ. That we do go home when we leave this earth, and the love there is a love that can not be felt here. When we experience it, it changes us.. we are no longer the same… Christ has said, when we drink of the living water we will never thirst again… I do not thirst… I’m not quite sure you will understand what I just said.
I do not sorrow in my struggles.., for I know I signed up for this before I came here. I see my HF and my Saviour in my struggles. I know the sweet because of them. There will always be disease snd the need for medications… Our Saviour heals us sometimes not by taking our sorrow from us but opens our eyes to how this illness can benefit us eternally.
Never judge someone and tell them they don’t believe enough… or need to repent. You have no idea what they’ve seen or the blessings they receive for going through them!

I think you guys did a fabulous job on this subject. As I’ve read the comments for this video I am really shocked by all the negativity and personal attacks. I just want to say that the purpose of the Word of Wisdom, in my opinion, is to make sure you are able to use your agency without interference from modern secret combinations - or evil men with the intent to destroy. The do’s and dont’s are examples not an exhaustive list. - which is what this presentation was trying to get at, I think. I don’t think it’s fair for anyone to force their opinions on others. The only place you are going to know what is good for you is for you to do the work and then bring it to the Lord for final say. And that goes for everything- not just food. For example- I have an autoimmune disorder. How I take care of myself is going to look very different than how my husband takes care of himself. But that is between me and God. He’s ultimately the one I have to answer to.

The "spirit" of the Word of Wisdom would counsel against drinking sodas even if they are not specifically banned because of refined sugar, preservative chemicals, caramel food coloring (in colas, Dr. Pepper, etc.) which is a carcinogen. It's where the "wisdom" aspect of it might govern personal behavior & dietary choices.

    • @Dispariabooks
      @Dispariabooks 3 роки тому +1

Just remember, you can't say all soda is bad all the time. I'm not advocating for making it a staple, but to completely say all sodas are bad at all times to all people is wrong. There are sodas without artificial coloring and flavors, and sugar itself is not bad. Sugar is only bad in excess and at the wrong times.

@@Dispariabooks Please don't strawman me. I did not "completely say that all sodas are are bad at all times at all times to all people." Your more careful reread will show that I *specified* sodas with *refined sugar, preservative chemicals, caramel food coloring.* "Sugar is only bad in excess and at the wrong times." What? Now who's generalizing! There are no "wrong times" for diabetics. Any time can be wrong for them. And what *sugar* are you talking about? Fructose in the form of fruit is still sugar. Your little axiom clearly doesn't apply there.

    • @Dispariabooks

@@windigo44 sorry if I mis-quoted or it came across that way, but that specific response was to the original post saying she wished also it as would be completely banned by the word of wisdom. I just meant that to say that we shouldn't over exaggerate or generalize 100%. And I totally agree that a lot of the crappy colorings and preservatives are terrible for you, that's why the mixture I use that I was talking about in the other thread is straight maltodextrin and fructose without any of the other stuff in it. That being said, a cold Coke on a hot day during a long ride sure does hit the spot sometimes LOL.
And when talking about sugar in general, I was more referencing my specific situation. I think the two discussions got blended into one at some point though 😛 and to agree with you further, yeah people definitely do have specific dietary needs such as diabetics. I'm never even going to begin to say I can speak for health concerns like that. My specific example was just to show that sugar can be okay in specific instances, and that was more a response to the original post, not yours.

I feel amazing on fresh fruits and vegetables and I do eat meat usually once or twice a week. I love the insights given in this lesson that there are the things we have been commanded to abstain from and then the things that we get to decide what are best for our bodies. I grew up on the standard American diet but always knew it was not the way to optimal health. I think a lot of us are waking up when we are now seeing the mass destruction on people’s health.-way more deaths annually than covid-19.

I do appreciate the good word on studying the Apocrypha and bringing up the story of how Hanukah came to be in Jewish history. The truth of the matter in our progression into the eternities is we won't move together in large masses. The numbers always resemble a few who stand against culture and the Dragon's influence. The key is not to seek the mysteries and avoid sharing them, it is actually the opposite: to remember as you advance and gain your Calling and Election by executing the mysteries, to then humbly heed Christ's plea to return to those who are struggling and assist the Savior daily in lifting others to the very same understanding that brought your advancement to the Savior (both in the milk and meat).

If you look at the 1835 edition of the Doctrine and Covenants, section LXXX (80) , page 207, which is now section 89, the first three verses that we have now as section 89 was the preamble and the first verse of the scripture starts with, “Behold, verily thus saith the Lord . . .”.
In other words the revelation starts on verse four. The preamble was written by Joseph Smith as an explanation to the revelation. The preamble was then added to the revelation as verses 1,2 and 3 by Orson Pratt in 1876 as part of the re-pagination and organizing of the Doctrine and Covenants with the addition of 26 more sections. This was all done under close collaboration with President Brigham Young. In any event the whole was accepted as scripture by common consent at conference.

    Well done!
Personally I think in the near future the Saints will reconsider their constant animal consumption and it will be a spiritual blessing.
Just my two cents and not me telling anyone what they should do... but
It is absolutely mind-boggling how successful the "conspiracies" have been with food. Unless you do some serious research you are left so confused by the nutrition news that you just give up and eat "whatever". God in his mercy has not left us at the mercy of conspirators. The W of W makes it so clear. DON'T eat all the junk at Costco. Don't eat Meat. ( Unless you are really hungry and it's the only option). "And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine". (You are more important than animals but they are here on earth to have joy in their creation as well) Eat everything that grows. Fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, seeds, nuts, legumes, and medicinal herbs with "judgment and skill." The evidence that we are so confused in this country is the obesity epidemic. look around, its terrifying. We have the highest rates of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, auto-immune diseases and on and on and on. It is very very rare for a doctor to even mention diet. They are good people to be sure but their training is in pharmaceuticals not diet, sadly however its the diet not the genetics or environment that is killing us. ( Recent Nation Institutes for Health, NIH, shows only 15% genetically caused and those genes can be turned off and on with diet) Interestingly the W of W was given just a few years before Protein nutrient was discovered and MEAT (not plant protein) became an obsession in the US and is now spreading across the world at the same rate as cancer and other diseases. The U.S. figured out how to take a rare treat of meat (historically only 1 to 5% of diet calories) and fed it to us at every meal. Not exactly sparingly. All plants have proteins, more than we need. Human breast milk is only .9% proteins and that's the highest protein need we have as babies growth is so fast. The largest and strongest animals only eat plants. We are just getting "down stream" protein minus the so important fiber and the critical thousands of plant nutrients "phytonutrients" that plants have. Now only 14% of American get the MINIMUM fruit and vegetables servings. and that includes French fries and catsup. Even if meat wasn't bad for us it crowds out what is good for us. There is a mountain of research now on the link between meat and cancer and low plant consumption and disease. NIH, WHO, China Study, EPIC study, Nurses study etc. WHO (world health organization) recently gave processed meat (almost all meat) a "Class 1" carcinogen rating. That's the same as cigarettes. Personally I have gained a testimony of the W of W. "And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen."

Last year according to the CDC:
    Heart disease: 659,041

    Cancer: 599,601

    Preventable Hospital mistakes: 440,000

Adverse reactions to pharmaceuticals (not abused): 328,000

    Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 156,979

    Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 150,005

    Alzheimer’s disease: 121,499

    Diabetes: 87,647

These are all foodborne illnesses. We eat our way in and we will have to eat our way out. This is not normal. Health and vitality is normal. Areas where the diet reflect the W of W have extremely low levels of disease. Until they move to the U.S. or other Western countries that serve American food.

It is sad that when they do population studies for low and no meat eaters they have to turn to the Seventh-day Adventists because they actually live their religion. But I believe new emphasis is coming and we will look back on these times like when the Saints for decades kept drinking and smoking until it was tied to the temple recommend process. Then it switches overnight. Latter-day Saints have overcome many things in the past and I believe we can overcome the massive food conspiracies and learn to start eating what God has prescribed and ignore the medical, health guru and corporations' confusion.

Sorry for the rant, I'm not trying for moral superiority, I just wish someone would have giving me the straight truth a long time ago. I fell for some pretty ridiculous diets and ideas in the past and the W of W was right there the whole time.

It’s interesting to apply the principles of the word of wisdom to the current realities of today… specifically, mask and vaccine usage. I don’t want to make this some sort of political debate, as this is a very controversial subject. While I contemplate this word of wisdom message (specifically starting at the 25:00 mark), I find myself drawing parallels with consumption use/abuse with masks and vaccines. There are good reasons for the use of masks and getting vaccines… I’m not disputing that. But, there are also good reasons for not using masks and being vaccinated. I feel it comes down to personal choice including factoring the pros and cons and if it’s really wise and right for me. Just like it’s wise and right for me to NOT to consume milk because I’m lactose intolerant (Tyler’s examples 26:20). We’ve all been counseled to seek personal revelation for us individually and for our families… and that’s what I’m doing. However, it’s somewhat difficult to reconcile counsel from the Brethren as it pertains to vaccine/mask usage (referring to the most recent statement from the church) and personal revelation.

Alot of the testing was done on a large morman settlement in CA. Some followed the doctrine to the t and some didnt. So they had a control group. The plant based people weighed less and lived longer in better condition. That's why I switched to whole food plant based. I want more people to do the same because heart disease and type 2 diabetes are rampant now. I hate seeing sick people. Even if I don't know them. That and I have a compassionate God who wouldnt want us to hurt any other living thing. I have to imagine those animals don't want to die. Can't speak to a doctrinal answer, but from a practical standpoint, if someone asks you if you use alcohol/tobacco/drugs/etc, it's a pretty much a yes or no.
If someone asks if you eating proper amounts of herbs, grains, fruits, etc, it's not as clear cut an answer, and varies from person to person as to what an appropriate amount is.
Sins of commission (adultery, stealing, etc) are always easier to define and give yes/no answers to. Sins of omission (am I ministering to my families, am I magnifying my calling, etc) are not so cut and dry.

Just an FYI. Green, Black and Oolong tea all come from the same evergreen bush whose botanical name is Camellia sinensis (formerly known as Thea Sinensis), all of which naturally contain caffeine. The only difference between the 3 types is the method by which the leaves are prepared, Herbal teas are not actual "tea"--Camellia sinensis. We call them a tea as a shortcut-- kind of like calling all tissues by the name Kleenex. They are actually an herbal infusion made from the leaves, roots, flowers or berries of a variety of other plants/herbs. An infusion is just steeping the plant material in hot water to release the volatile oils into the water. Some use herbal teas for their medicinal benefits, others because they are calming and warming.
As far as I know most traditional herbal "teas" do not contain caffeine, but some can contain chemicals that may interfere with certain medical conditions & medicines. Always do some research before consuming any herb tea. Green tea powder can be purchased in capsules at a health food store. I assume they still contain caffeine and would be addictive. If you would rather avoid those issues, ask the Lord to lead you to something else that will treat your symptoms without the side effects of green tea. Hope that helps.

I know things need to be taken in moderation, which makes sense to me but what about things like dark colored sodas or chocolate for that matter? I know dark chocolate is healthier than light chocolate but they still can be addicting so again moderation is The key with those things, right?Where do those things fall in the spectrum of the word of wisdom? You can still go to the temple if you drink the dark colored sodas and eat chocolate. I understand they did not have those things in Joseph Smith’s days so they would’ve had to have fallen in modern day revelation in regards to this law.

It could be as simple as oral and written. The Lord told Lehi to have his sons return to Jerusalem to get the written word. Many ancient civilizations lost their history, genealogy and eventually their language due to only having oral communication which can easily become adulterated. Whereas, having a written, chronological history gives your civilization a much better chance of keeping accurate traditions, beliefs and language. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe the 'tongues' could be our daily use of the language and it varies from groups of people and, even, countries. For instance, the language spoken in Portugal and Brazil is called 'portuguese'. But there are significative differences between the two of them. So, the language spoken is called 'portuguese' but the tongue is 'brazilian portuguese'. Even in english we have certain groups of people who speaks almost a 'different' language (although still english), and we could call a 'tongue'. I hope this view helps a little.

    • @ghpedroza
      @ghpedroza 3 роки тому

That's what we can find in the Encyclopedia of Mormonism:
The concept of the Adamic language grew among Latter-day Saints out of statements from scripture, comments of early Church leaders, and subsequent tradition.𝐈𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐚 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬.
The scriptures state that this language, written and spoken by Adam and his children, was "pure and undefiled" (Moses 6:5-6). Brigham Young taught that it continued from Adam to Babel, at which time the Lord "caused the people to forget their own mother tongue,…scatter[ing] them abroad upon the face of the whole earth," except possibly for Jared and his family in the Book of Mormon (JD 3:100; cf. Gen. 11:1-9; Mosiah 28:17). This statement reflects the widely held Mormon belief that the founding members of the jaredite civilization preserved the Adamic language at their immigration to the new world (Ether 1:33-43;3:24-28). Thus, the description by the brother of Jared of his apocalyptic vision was rendered linguistically inaccessible without divine interpretive help, since "the language which ye shall write I [God] have confounded" (Ether 3:21-28).
In the early years of the Church, some words of the Adamic language may have been revealed to Joseph Smith (JD 2:342), and other early Church leaders, including Brigham Young (HC 1:297) and Elizabeth Ann Whitney (Woman's Exponent 7 [Nov. 1, 1878], p. 83), who were said to have spoken it in tongues. More recently President Ezra Taft Benson alluded to its possible universal reinstatement to resolve linguistic diversity (Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson [Salt Lake City, 1988], p. 93; cf. Brigham Young JD 3:100).
Similarly, Zephaniah 3:9,possibly referring to the future of the Adamic language, says, "I will turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord." The word pure comes from the Hebrew berurah, from barar, "to cleanse" or purify; also "to choose."
Because it is generally held that a language reflects its culture, possibly the erosion of the purity of the Adamic culture after Babel led to a concomitant loss of purity of expression in its mirroring language. JOHN S. ROBERTSON

If this is a real question I'd like to answer you as I have had 2 NDE's - for real; both times sent back because I hadn't completed my mission (I wonder if they just didn't want me LOL). Your answer is no and yes - language is not what it is here. Here it separates us, which was God's intention when he confounded the language at the Tower of Babel (that is how we came up with the word 'babbling'). I found we communicated through inner understanding - like not reading minds but perceiving thoughts - I knew what they were wanting me to know and I knew what I wanted them to know and when we spoke with our mouths we totally understood each other so I guess we were all speaking the same language and why wouldn't we? The confounding of language was only for this world. Best description would be how the Holy Ghost speaks to our minds then we interpret his words with our language. We fully understand what others are communicating to us, I hope this answers your question. Also, there is so much love and acceptance in the spirit world it is beyond imagination and the peace - wow - so much more I could tell you - trust me that our loved ones who have passed are in a wonderful place.

Ice very well put. Short version, you can use words and understand what is being said on the other side of the Veil. Or just like the Holy Ghost speaks to each of us through the heart and mind I know there's others, they have the same question. And thank you for asking. But never forget here on Earth your thoughts can be transmitted to family members and other people just like prayer. If you have evil intent it can be transmitted from one person to another without speaking a word or being able to see them. Even the good can be transmitted by thought. Most people make excuses or just don't pay attention , they just brush it off. We learned this in the pre-existence and we still have it among us now in mortality. I see it mostly when we are not thinking about sending any messages to another person. For an example, you can teach your children without them being in the room with you. Just like preparing a talk or Sunday school lesson but you are thinking about them or their problems. And it comes to them as just another thought which is a Heavenly gift without even knowing it.

Please read D&C Section 82:10, then D&C Section 89. For as it you put it, it is leading to false hope. By omitting a third of it, you are spiritually misleading those who look at you for guidance.
In verse 4, section 89 is was given as a warning. We are responsible for the information in it. From verse 10 to 17 inclusive, the Lord tell us of His will, clearly, about the use of grain and meat. Verse 2 tells us... showing forth the will of God... Verse 13 tells us, it does not please the Lord in the eating of meat, and the exceptions thereof. In verse 18, the Lord makes promises to those who remember to keep such information and the commandments.
Thus, if people are omitting the will of God--verses 13 to 17, the promises in verses 18-21 are not applicable. You tell people to read it. If the leader omitted part of the scripture, seems that the follower will do like wise. You bear responsibility for what you teach.

I think what they meant was that if the wine was "of their own making" it would likely not have had time to ferment into wine, it would still basically be grape juice when they used it. Proper fermentation takes a long time. Can you imagine trying to arrange for every ward and branch to make wine "of their own making" for the sacrament. Logistically it would be problematic, especially in poor areas. Isn't it kind that in his mercy the Lord allows us to substitute water. Also, Pero is a mild barley drink and can be purchased at Walmart and many grocery stores near coffee and herb teas. It is an acquired taste.
