Hi. Im looking to start with gmat currently and appear anyhow by August and get a good score. Then prepare for cat and appear in November as it gets conducted during that time. Although you recommend in this video to do the opposite, but I don't wanna lose time in college applications available from gmat due to cat. What do u say?
Hi, the suggestion to prepare for the CAT exam before the GMAT is primarily due to the major overlap in the syllabus. The level of difficulty of CAT questions is usually higher than that of GMAT; thus, prepping for the CAT exam usually covers all bases, especially in the case of GMAT Quant and DI. However, if you wish to first prep for GMAT, you can definitely do that. You'll simply have to switch gears after August, and there will not be any major change in focus. You can build on your GMAT learning and practice CAT-level questions to familiarise yourself with the level of difficulty.
Hi, The content that one might study for CAT might cover a good number of the topics for the GMAT Focus edition. Rather than LR, there is more DI content that will be tested as part of the Data Insights section - the format and level of questions are somewhat distinct from what we see in CAT. With regard to the query about study material, one could rely on the Official Practise Tests and associated content provided by the GMAC. If you're looking for practising questions, you could check out our practice platform: gmatpoint.com/studyroom
Truly appreciate the details provided in this video. Very informative. In such a case, can we completely focus on quant and LRDI syllabus as per CAT and parellely complete the entire syllabus of verbal from Gmat official guide?
Hi, The Data Insights section on the GMAT is different from (and perhaps easier than) CAT LRDI; in this regard, you should check the question types once the official guide is made available in June. Coming to QA preparation, if someone prepares for CAT QA, that would sufficiently cover GMAT QA topics as well. As far as the Verbal section is concerned, GMAT tests both critical reasoning and reading comprehension - the official guide has a limited set of verbal questions, so you might have to prepare a bit more extensively, especially if this is your weak section.
