they were born and grew up in utah but at a young age both of them moved to london for a couple of years and left their 3 older sisters and parents in utah to pursue their dancing. their parents were in the middle of a divorce at that time.. and also they were extras in harry potter
Julianne lived in London for a lot shorter time than Derek and then she moved to her mother in Vegas, before coming on Dancing with the Stars in LA.
